MVC Google Sitemap From ContentResult - Incorrect Namespace
Feb 15, 2010
I created a sitemap generated by a ContentResult however Google keeps telling me my namespace is incorrect. Any ideas?
My Code:public ContentResult Index()
{
//Build RSS for sitemap
XNamespace ns = "http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9";
const string url = "http://www.openarmssoberliving.com/{0}"; [code]...

Can you recommend any tools? Should we build our own? Should we create the sitemap manually?

I have a HttpHandler that generates a Google sitemap based on my asp.net web.sitemap. Fairly standard stuff. Except that it does some fairly heavy database work to auto-generate additional urls for Ajax tabs within pages.All this means our DB gets hit fairly heavily if the bot hits sitemap.axd.What we need, of course, is output caching. But how do you go about caching inside something that basically writes directly to a XmlTextWriter?

I am assuming there is an elegant way to do this, but I do not know what it is. In an application I am working on, I have a lot of ContentResults that return xml. Every action that does return xml runs through the exact same try/catch block and I am repeating myself over and over again - here is an example of what I am talking about:
public ContentResult SomeAction()
{
try
{
//some stuff here
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
HandleErrorMethod(ex);
}
return this.Content(someObject.ToXmlString(), contentReturnType);
}
This happens 3-4 times in a controller so I figure there is a way I can either paint it with an attribute, or run some sort of method in the global.asax or something like that to prevent repeating myself over and over - not to mention code changes in the future.

I've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).
First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.
The error:
Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.
A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />
[code]...
I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.
SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.
SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.

I've got a custom menu navigation built from a web.sitemap file, the first line of this would be something like:
SiteMapNodeCollection topLevelNodes = SiteMap.RootNode.ChildNodes;
However, now I want to be able to create multiple web.sitemap files, and then programmatically determine which web.sitemap file to use, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I'm assuming I could either create one custom SiteMapProvider that can perform the logic to determine which web.sitemap file to load, or I have multiple providers, each one with the SiteMapFile property set to a specific *.sitemap file, and then switch providers programmatically before I access SiteMap.RootNode.

I use vs2008 and my MVC 1.0 and 2.0 Projects were working perfectly but all of a sudden i have an error on trying to compile all of them;
The error is of the form;
Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Controllers' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Models' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 4 The type or namespace name 'AccountController' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 5 The type or namespace name 'IFormsAuthenticationService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 6 The type or namespace name 'IMembershipService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
These errors seem to come from the HomeControllerTest and the AccountControllerTest.
note that i recently installed Azure Tools using the Web Installer..Dunno if that could be the cause or problem.

I was earlier having a problem with referencing a 3rd Party Dll (Here) but have overcome this problem and am now having a problem referencing my own classes!
Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation
Error:Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
The line that the Error points to this line in the class:
source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData newdata =
new source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData();
This line of code points to a class in the same folder as the calling code class.

I am working with a sql server database with about 50 stored procedures. The database and stored procedureswere not created by me. The stored procedures all begin with a number in their name.
Example: 17P_Comsetter
The problem I am having is that if I try and execute the stored procedure at the command line in Query Analyzer,the query analyzer appears not to like that the stored procedure begins with a number. For example:
If I try an run the stored procedure as follows:
EXEC 17P_Comsetter
Then I get the following error message:
Msg 102, ..... Incorrect Syntax near '17'
I am using SQL server 2005. Does anyone know why I am getting this error message?

I am creating a CacheDependency on the file that my SiteMap provider uses. I would like to get the name of the file from my sitemap provider instead of hard coding it. Is there a way?
Edit
Duh, I forgot to mention: XmlSiteMapProvider that comes with ASP.NET
Edit 2
Reflector shows a private member field called _filename that isn't exposed in any way as far as I can tell.

All my pages are receiving this error - website is down; here's the code:

Except my web config file shows linq is accounted for? [Code]....
I would note that I updated to VWD Express 2010 then had to revert back to 3.5 because my host at Arvixe had not updated my server yet. He then said he updated it and I reverted up to 4.0 again. It turned out he hadn't and I tried to revert back...and then this showed up and numerous other errors.
