Dec 26, 2010whan i create new table using sql express 2010 to an excisting database in sql server 2008 this error message comes
Invalid object name 'dbo.DrugsCaegory';
where DrugsCaegory is the new created table by sql express by visual studio 2010 it works correctly local but when run it on server this error message comes
note:all other tables was created by sql server 2008,but this new table creayed by express 2010
is this is the reason ???
but it works local ,
on local database is express version 2010
on server database sql server 2008

Then, I want to individually access the rows and perform updates to them...For example, if I just needed the first row I could go like this:
update_query.First.timeValue = txtFRRSD.Text
dbConfig.SubmitChanges()
Now, I don't know how to code this, but here is pseudo what I'd like to do:
update_query.Item("FRRSD").timeValue = txtFRRSD.Text
update_query.Item("FRRCD").timeValue = txtFRRCD.Text
update_query.Item("SORSD").timeValue = txtSORSD.Text
update_query.Item("SORCD").timeValue = txtSORCD.Text

I have a call to my business object that returns an entity CFUser that has a FirstName parameter on it of type string. Where Page is my entity object. However, the manually changed property (newPage.LastModified) is not recognized when updating the model. I am aware that I somehow have to connect the entity object to the Entity Framework, but how to do this?

Oct 11, 2010Is there a way to manually update a single edmx entity to reflect a new column in a SQL db table? If yes, what would be the proper step- by-step procedure?
I prefer not to use the "update model from db" template because this will update all the tables and wipe out all the customizations and name changes I have already made in the EF objects. This seems a bit overkill for a single column change. I went down this route once, and I prefer not to do it again. I do not see any way to actually update a single table from the DB using VS2010 "update from db".
What I have tried to do so far is manually add a new scalar property to the appropriate entity using the edmx designer, and this seems to work OK, but I cannot seem to find a way to map the new property back to the db through the mapping window. Do I have to do this directly through the XML file? Also is this sufficient to ensure the new column is correctly reflected in the edmx, or are there other steps that need to be done?

Jun 30, 2010I have an EDM, it includes the entities extension and history. My goal is to use history to keep track of all the changes made to extension entity. For example, if extension with ID 223 has its property 'Name_Display' changed - I want the history entity to record this.
I'm using ASP.NET with VB.NET. Where in my code do I put the hook to say, "update the history entity" and what should that hook look like?

Oct 8, 2010I am playing about just now trying to teach myself a little bit about the entity framework. I have a Gridview data bound to a Entity Date Source using the Entity Framework. If I select certain items in that list I then wish to redirect another page and populate another gridview with just the items selected (but with more detail, different includes/navigation properties)
This is probably the most simple thing but I have spent 2 hours banging my head on the wall trying to get this to work. Essentially I have a continue button which when clicked should identify all the UIDs (a column in the gridview) of the rows and allow me to subset to just these rows and pass them to another page to be rebound to another datagrid

Oct 13, 2010We have an ASP.NET MVC site that uses Entity Framework abstractions with Repository and UnitOfWork patterns. What I'm wondering is how others have implemented navigation of complex object graphs with these patterns. Let me give an example from one of our controllers:

It's a registration process and pretty much everything hangs off the POCO class Person. In this case we're caching the person through the registration process. I've now started implementing the latter part of the registration process which requires access to data deeper in the object graph. Specifically DPA data which hangs off Legal inside Country.
The code above is just mapping out the model information into a simpler format for the ViewModel. My question is do you consider this fairly deep navigation of the graph good practice or would you abstract out the retrieval of the objects further down the graph into repositories?

Aug 24, 2010I'm in the process of deserializing a JSON object into an Entity Framework object. The property names in the JSON do not match up totally with the property names in the Entity Framework Objects. What I'd like to do is set "Name=" on the "DataContractAttribute" for the table and the "DataMemberAttribute" for the properties in the Designer.cs file. I tried setting these in the Designer.cs file manually just to see if it would work - which it did (using JSON.Net) but of course when I went into the .edmx designer I lost all my changes. Is there a way to do this?

Because of the problems getting the email to look the same in various email clients, I need to convert that chunk of html to a pdf - so I can create the pdf on the fly, save it and attach it to the email.
Can anyone suggest a simple pdf generator that will just take a chunk of html and create a pdf from it? The ones I have looked at so far have what looks like a steep learning curve with hundreds of features I don't need.

Nov 4, 2010using the latest bits for MVC 3 i'm looking at the code for a Controller (Northwind products), specifically my 'Edit'Action.
there are two methods, one for diplaying the item to edit, and one for posting back changes made on the UI.
My question is : how do i get a reference to the currently edited product. The method takes 2 arguments; the id of the product and a formcollection which is a dictionarly of product proerties by the looks of it. mvc 2 had slightly differentt arguments compared to mvc 3 beta.
