<Control>.Focus() From Server Side Doesn't Scroll Into View?
May 1, 2010
Custom Validation Control:
<asp:CustomValidator
ID="valSex" runat="server" ErrorMessage="1.2 Sex not specified"[code]...
When the page is submitted and Sex is not specified, focus is set but the 2 radio buttons are not quite in view, vertical scrolling is required to bring them into view. Shouldn't the Focus() method have brought the focus control into view?

I recently came across the AsyncFileUpload control in the latest (3.0.40412) release of the ASP.Net Ajax Control Toolkit. There appears to be an issue when using it in a hidden control that is later revealed, such as a
tag with visible=false.
Page code -
<%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="act" %>
<act:ToolkitScriptManager runat="server" ID="ScriptManager1" />
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="upnlFileUpload">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnShowUpload" Text="Show Upload" />

I have two textboxes, one isfor 'program' and the other for 'description'. I have a predefined set of programs and it is associated descriptions in the database.
Example : For program named 'Test' it has the description as 'Valid' in the DB Table
For example, when enter a program name in the program textbox as 'Test', its associated description 'Valid' should be populated automatically to the 'Description' TextBox on losing focus from the 'Program' TextBox.
How can I achieve this using asp.net mvc

i've got a user control that resides at the bottom of a page. The user control has a repeater and some paging that I built. Everything works well with the custom paging, but when the user clicks a page, the screen goes back to the TOP of the page after postback while my user control resides at the bottom. It's quite annoying for the user to scroll down everytime he pages the control. Is there anyway I can move the focus onto the control after postback?
This functionality is somewhat similar to the HTML anchor internal where you point to a section in a page, but i want it with the paging. Here's a structure of my user control:
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="blah.ascx.cs" Inherits="blahblah.blah" %>

Just I started learning MVC pattern, of course i am learning it from Microsoft's website.Just i want to gather quiz information from the experts. My understanding is (correct me then and there)
1 ) MVC does not support server side events, but supports client side events. If it supports client side events, I need html page with jQuery/Javascript (view), but most of the example I absorbed is to display the information(model) in view, I did not see any client side event handling happens in view.
2) Except ViewState and controlState, MVC supports Sessions, Application State management, Cache management.
3) When request goes to MVC engine, the routing module routes the request that is picked up by the controller. The controller in executes the appropriate action and returns the appropriate view.

I have a webdayview control (Infragistics proprietary ASP.net control) on my page. On the aspx source I've inserted some javascript (webdayview_click - clientside click event) that calls a webmethod in the codebehind. This seems to work fine, but when I
insert this webdayview control into a user control and move the corresponding javascript into the aspx of the user control, it doesn't work. I can't even insert a breakpoint into the javascript function to debug it. Is there a way to make it work? I want to enable the click event of the webdayview control so that when I click on it, the javascript function calls the webmethod. Here's my code (remember it is inside a user control):
[code]...
I posted this question on the Infragistics forum but didn't get any replies. Hopefully I'll get some here. :)

If we use an aspx page with a Caching Profile, the server caches images that are loaded with the aspx page. So if ten clients load the same image through the aspx page (same url), for one client the image is gotten out of the db, for the nine others it is cached.When we use a HttpHandler, this doesn't happen. The image is always fetched from the database. We have tried all different settings without any success. (we have checked this link and have not been able to cache on server side).

I have a hidden variable and its value is being updated using javascript(client side) which I make a call from server side code. After making the call I am not able to retrieve the updated value from Server side variable. I went through this forum [URL] but not able find a way how to implement functionality with IFRAME. I am trying to call the client side code and retrieve the updated value from server side in page_load event.

I've got two textboxes running server side and have their visibility turned off. I'm using a couple of ASP.NET controls which require the textboxes to exist. However, I am filling them from the code behind and would not like the user to see this. Can the user turn the visibility on and see the values entered in the text box? I tried using FireBug, and I couldn't seem to select the visibility option in order to edit it. However, I'm quite new to Firebug, so there may be another way? Or does running it server side mean that the client can't ever view the contents of the textbox?

I have a javascript to enable text boxes when called, I want to trigger this code when a user picks value "Custom" from a dropdownlist, so that I can display/Hide these new textboxes.
function setVisibility(DropDownListID) {
var element = document.getElementById(DropDownListID);
var element1 = document.getElementById("TestBox1");
if (element.value == "Custom") {
element1.visible = !element1.visible ;
}
<asp:DropDownList ID="DateRangeDropDownList" runat="server" Enabled="True" onChange="setVisibility('DateRangeDropDownList');">
<asp:ListItem>Some Value</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>Custom</asp:ListItem>
</asp:DropDownList>
<asp:TextBox ID="TestBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
For some reason it doesn't seem to work.

For the ASP.NET validator controls, I want to use both client-side validation for the user experience and server-side validation to guard against hackers. ASP.NET documentation leads me to believe that if EnableClientScript="True" then there will be no server-side validation if client-side validation is possible for the user agent. To get server-side validation, the documentation says use EnableClientScript="False", which bypasses client-side validation altogether.
Am I misunderstanding how the validator controls work? I ask because it seems obvious that many developers would want both client and server side validation together, and I find it hard to believe both together is not possible with one of the standard validation controls.
If I am understanding the ASP.NET documentation correctly, then I can find only two options:
Use two validator controls exactly the same except for their ID and EnableClientScript properties. Obviously ugly for maintaining two controls almost the same.Write some code behind to check if postback then invoke the Validate method on the validator group. Why write code behind if there a way to be automatic from the control?
Is there a way to do so using a single validator control with no code behind?

I have put the following method in my master page. It works when I call it on a full post back, but when I call it from a updatePanel's asyncPostBack no alert is shown.
public void ShowAlertMessage(String message)
{
string alertScript =
String.Format("alert('{0}');", message);
Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Key", alertScript, true);
}
What do I need to do so it works on partial post backs?

We have been assigned a project for future developement. The problem is original developer did not create any data model, so we are in trouble understanding how db structure flow goes. I know we can create database diagram (even did that), but db contains 162 tables so the db diagram becomes so big that it does not fit in the monitor's view. Viewing each table > keys (for relationships) is not possible.

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)
<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...
There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...
There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

//
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");
[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

I've got an ASP.NET webform with asp:TextBox and asp:RequiredFieldValidator at the bottom of the page. If client side validation fails on form submit - the page scrolls all the way up.
I'd like to maintain the scroll position on failed client-side validation.
