I need to write an application that retrieves entries in the MMC event logs (application, system and security events) and would like to do so in ASP if possible. This is an internal application. Someone told me to use PowerShell.
Is it possible to do this in ASP (and use PowerShell) or do I need to use some other tools? I would like to retrieve events into a DataGrid etc.
I am working on an application to read event logs on a remote machine. I tried adding this to the web.config

However, when I ran this, I got the following error:

View 4 RepliesI am trying to set up my web site on a stand alone server using Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6 which will access SQL server database (2008) on windows 2008 R2 server (also not in the domain) I am using form authentication and I have configured a custom identity account in IIS6. The local account is on both servers with same password and I have registered the account using aspnet_regiis.exe -ga The application pool in my iis6 has the custom local account set as the identity and my web.config file has the appropriate tags in the system.web element <identity impersonate="true" />
The problem is the local account does not seem to get passed to the sql server. Right now my iis settings are anonymous access (using the local acct vs isr) and no authentication specified under that - I did try Integrated and basic but it prompts for the username and password which I do not want. One article I read stated this: windows authentication does not support delegation (passing credentials from one server to another) and is limited to the one hop rule, only a primary token can be passed to a second server. windows
authentication on iis (all versions) gives the thread a secondary(impersonation) token which can not be used to access any network resouce
I have used a pattern of compound view models for a few of the forms in this project. It works very well.
In this case I have a VendorAddress view model. I use Address(es) in a few places in this project so I made and Address view model object that I can re-use. Then I desided I want to do a very thorough checking of the state codes and zips so, I desided I would try to use remote validation and check the state and zip code aganst a stored set of tables in the database.
The problem is I am not getting values back to the remote action methods for the fields I'm asking for (in this case State and PostalCode). I believe this is because of the name mangleing that the MVC framework does for compound or sub types for id(s) for the inputs in this case it is making names like 'Address_Line1' and 'Address_State' and 'Address_PostalCode'.
Ultimately the question I have is, is there a way of turning off the pre-pended 'Address_' from the base view model object in a way that MVC framework can put it bak into the object after ther post of the form?

I get the remote call but there is nothing in the parameters "State" and "PostalCode", so the unobtrusive routines are firing but I think it does not know where to look for the data even though I have type something in the mensioned fields. As you can see in the rendered code the id="Address_State" and the data-val-remote-additionalfields="*.State,*.PostalCode"
I have a master page with a login box on it. Inside the login box is a button -

NOW ... On my local dev machine this code works fine. The control fires the event and everything is how it should be. When I run this site on a remote web server (tried two of them - both IIS7 running on 2008 R2) the event is never called. I added some logging to see what is happening and the PostBack event on the Master Page does not happen when the button is clicked - the page is just reloaded.
When viewing the click in firebug, the call turns red (i.e. error) but I can't see the error because the page redirects.
So is it allowed to call a remote website (in my case, its a 1x1 image using a standard url like [URL]
It happened to add an extra Gridveiw Header in row_databound event , It did worked fine on !Postback but disappered on Page.Postback . Quick google search guided me to move the event to Row_Created event and every thing is okay .
Can any expert post some pointers , differnces between grid row_created vs row_databount with some sample table data created dynamically behaviour of both the events in !Postback and page.Postback .

so if a method in the BLL returns say, a list of keyvaluepairs but the DAL has an error, the BLL logs the error but then it needs to tell the UI that there was an error. in this case, how should it be done? What is the best practice?should we have an out parameter for the BLL method so it returns an enum of success/dataretrievalfailure etc.or something else?
Looking through my web logs, I see a lot of entries that don't interest me. Some of them are commonly used images, css files, and scripts, which I can easily exclude by un-checking the 'log visits' check box in IIS for the folder properties.
I would also like to exclude log entries for certain common requests which are not in their own folders. Mostly, 'favicon.ico'. 'scriptresource.axd', and 'webresource.axd'. These (especially scriptresource.axd) make up almost a third of a typical log file on my site.
I am trying to sort out a problem where some relative urls are not resolving properly in an ASP.NET website. I want to see the HTTP logs to determine which URLs are being requested from the web server. I can't find an example of writing a custom log handler in C# (I'm not proficient in ะก++)

I logs error from Global.Application_Error method.File.AppendAllText method is used to write message to file with thread safe way using Monitor.However, I keep having the following error "The process cannot access the file 'D:ProjectsFPSPPSLog201011.txt' because it is being used by another process."The file was just created by ASP.NET. When next request writes message to the same file, it cause the issue.f I test after while like 5 min, it doesn' t have problem. But, if I test again after 1 second, the file is locked.

My intention is to understand the benefits of each style and not just a blanket answer of which to use. My main goals is clarity and high value testability. Testability overall is important, but I wouldn't sacrifice design simplicity and clarity to be able to add another type of test that doesn't lead to too much gain over the test cases already possible with a simpler design. If a design choice does off more testability include an example (pseudo code is fine) of the type of test it can now offer so I can make my decision if I value that type of extra test enough.
I have a master page and i am changing the masterpage file property to some other master page dynamically in the page PreInit event and that changing url is taken from a viewstate. but the view state is not getting in the pre init event.
