.net - Cannot Set Authorization Rules In Web.config For WCF Service

Feb 9, 2011

I read on a post that you can use ASP.Net authorization in the web config to control access to a WCF web service to replace the following attribute:

[PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role="Administrators")]

To test I have been using "Administrators" which is a valid role so should allow me access and "TEST" which isnt. This works fine when using the above attribute however when I comment that out and use this in my Web.Config file:

<authentication mode="Windows" />
<authorization>
<allow roles=".TEST"/>
<deny roles="*"/>
</authorization>

It still allows me access.

So I was wondering if I have just got something wrong in the web.config or whether what I read was wrong saying to use that.

Just for reference this is the post I looked at:

Using Windows Role authentication in the App.config with WCF

and the following is my web.config:

<authorization>
<allow roles=".TEST"/>

IIS7 Authorization Rules / Config - Prompting Perpetually

Dec 8, 2010

I am trying to secure an application in IIS7 using .NET Authorization Rules.

By default, the web server allows all users access (which is inherited).

I have added, just for this one application directory, a deny all users command, as well as an allow command for specific users.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configuration>
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow users="myusername" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>
</system.web>
</configuration>

I have Windows Authentication enabled, and I can verify that without the line that my REMOTE_USER is MYDOMAINmyusername.

However, when I try to deny all users, I am prompted with the typical Windows domain username/password box. If I enter the username password, the prompt comes back up again 3 times until finally presenting me with a failure message. (I have also tried to no avail)

Looking in the event viewer, it appears as if my login using the username and pw is successful in the audit ... and to further that point, my account is not being locked out (which it would if I were failing to login over and over). So it's as if I am logging in, but the configuration is not seeing what I entered as matching my login.

Below is the message I see (even when connecting from the server using localhost):

**Access is denied.

Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to the requested URL.

Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance.**

Tiis6 Limitations Of The UrlMappings In Web.config For Extensionless Url Rewriting?

Apr 13, 2010

I'm investigating a simple url rewriting setup for iis6 / net 2.0 sites.

I've added a . wildcard mapping in IIS that points to the .net executable. I'm also using the urlMappings element in the web.config to add some rewritten urls. I've moved the config outside of the web.config so I can make changes to the list without forcing application restarts, like so:

<urlMappings configSource="configurlMappings.config">
</urlMappings>

I'd like to allow our content management to add urls to this file so that we can have extensionless friendly urls. <add url="~/someurl" mappedUrl="index.aspx?page=123" />

This works just fine, but I'm concerned about limitations in the number of entries that I can map in the urlMappings config. I can't seem to find any documentation on this. Has anyone found any limitations?

What Is The Absolute Minimum Content For Web.config Based URL Rewriting

Mar 18, 2011

I'm going to be deploying an app in the near future on an IIS7 server, and would like to use the per-application URL rewriting settings in web.config, but this is not an ASP.NET application, so I have no need for anything superfluous.

What is the absolute minimum I need in my web.config in order to run my application and use URL Rewriting?

HttpHandlers / Modules :: Url Rewriting / How To Move All These Rewritings To Web.config

Mar 25, 2010

In Application_BeginRequest method of global.asax I rewrite urls like this:

if (fullOrigionalpath.ToLower().Contains("www.site1.com/home.aspx"))
{
Context.RewritePath("~/Site1/Home.aspx", false);
}
else if (fullOrigionalpath.ToLower().Contains("www.site2.com/home.aspx "))
{
Context.RewritePath("~/Site2/Home.aspx", false);
}
else if (fullOrigionalpath.ToLower().Contains("www.site3.com/home.aspx"))
{
Context.RewritePath("~/Site3/Home.aspx", false);
}

Now I need to move all these rewritngs to web.config. I am going to use Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.

I am able to rewrite path only for one url:

<rewriter>
<rewrite url="~/home.aspx" to="~/Site1/Home.aspx" />
</rewriter>

How can I do this for multiple urls like to="~/variable name here/Home.aspx"?

Configuration :: How To Merge A Distribution Web.config File And An Existing Web.config File

Mar 30, 2010

I'm preparing to deploy a ASP.NET web application. The target server has already a previous version of my web application with parameters specified on the web.config file.

In the new version of this web application, the web.config file contains new sections I would like they appear into the target web.config file on the server.

However I can't find the way to merge the new web.config sections into the existing web.config file ?

Does I have to do it programmatically, or is there a tool to merge the both files during installation ? (I'm using Web Setup Project).

Web Forms :: Create RegEx Function That Would Retrieve Inner Html Of Div?

Sep 15, 2010

I have been trying for a long time to create regEx function that would retrieve inner html of div but still no luck. What I want to do is to retrieve inner html of div with specific class.

Suppose the input is

<body>
.....
<div class="Product"><div class="id">1</div><span>xyz - 1090<br>New Product</span><div>
<div class="Product"><div>2</div><div>
<div class="Product"><div>1</div><br><p>322</p><div>
...
</body>

As you can see inner html itself can contain div tag and have no fixed structure (though will have correct html structure - opening and closing tag). So, how to get the inner html of div with class "Product".

How To Create A Common Web.config File And A Bunch Of Specific Web.config Files

Feb 16, 2011

Currently, I work on an ASP.NET project which is hosted under version control and is used on several developer machines, tester machine and production environment.

In three cases, configuration (Web.config) may be different. For example, developer and tester environments use testing SQL Server, whereas in production environment, another SQL Server is accessed, so the connection string is different in those cases.

We want to keep three versions of Web.config in subversion. But modifying each of three files every time we need to add, remove or change a common setting is annoying: it would be nice to have a common, master Web.config, which will be inherited by each of the three Web.config files.

How to set up an ASP.NET project which will use a master configuration file and different slave configuration files on different machines, thus sharing the same project/source code/configuration files in subversion?

How To Determine Which Parent Config File Is Locking A Web.config Setting

Mar 15, 2011

When I open my ASP.NET site in IIS and try to open the .NET Trust Levels, I get an error message:

.NET Trust Levels There was an error while performing this operation.

Details:
Filename: ?C:inetpubwwwrootmyappweb.config
Line number: 445

Error: This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"),or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".

I've checked a few places, but I haven't found anything that seems like it would be locking that setting. Is there a systematic way of determining where that setting is locked?

I'm using IIS 7.5 and .NET 3.5 sp1.

HttpHandlers / Modules :: Downloading File Not Working With URL Rewriting?

Mar 21, 2011

I have implemented URL rewritting in my application. I did it in Application_BeginRequest located in Global.asax. My url rewritting in working fine. Now in order to maintain rewritting during post back.

I have added code line this.Form.Action = Request.RawUrl; in page load event in order to maintain rewritten URL during post back. When I am adding below code on image button click to download file it doesn't work. It says "Internet explorer cannot display webpage". When I am removing line this.Form.Action = Request.RawUrl; from page load then downloading file will start working but URL rewritting will not work on postback.

FileInfo objFi = new FileInfo(Server.MapPath(filepath));
this.Form.Action = Request.RawUrl;
HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + objFi.Name);
HttpContext.Current.Response.Charset = "";
HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Length", objFi.Length.ToString());
HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();
HttpContext.Current.Response.WriteFile(objFi.FullName);
HttpContext.Current.Response.Flush();
HttpContext.Current.Response.End();

Machine.config File Know About Web.config?

b) How does machine.config file know about web.config? Is there any link mentioned inside the machine.config file for that?
