ADO.NET :: WCF For Existing REST Webservice - Consume Like OData
Mar 11, 2011
I have an existing RESTful webservice that I consume (I did not create) from a 3rd party. I currently use WebRequest and WebResponse to create and read the request and response. I access the service by url with query string parameters to pass what type of data I am requesting. I get the results back in XML, then have to load it into a new XmlDocument, create a bunch of DataSets, XmlNodeReaders, DataTables, etc. It's really messy in my opinion.
What I am looking to accomplish is to take advantage of the Entity Framework Model, OData, and WCF. I have never create or used WCF yet. The webservice that I am accessing is some sort of service created from within Apache, it is not .Net. I don't know whether or not I can utilize the new .Net Framework 4.0 services to make the consumption of this service any better, easier, or cleaner.

client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Clear();
client.DefaultRequestHeaders.Accept.Add(new MediaTypeWithQualityHeaderValue("application/json"));

I added a Web Method to the existing web service. I don't see this method in my web project. I can see all the old methods but I couldn't access this method. Do I have to create proxy for this method?

I have created a asmx web service.The service will interact with SQL Server database to Get, Insert and Update of some tables in my db.I have one Service method called AddItem which takes a class object as parameter. with that parameter I am inserting the values into the database. In the same way I have another service method that Gets all the Items from db using the same class and returns the class object as the return type for my service.Â
Here is my sample AddItem() and GetAllItems() prototypeÂ

I would really appriciate if someone could show me example of how to use api webservice of another site and retreive content (or whatever data is returned) and publish that content localy on omy own site. Api webservice I´m planning to use has support for HTTP GET & POST and SOAP 1.1 and 1.2.
I created my site with webmatrix and razor.I tryed searching on the net but I'm having hard time finding relevant content.

I have a new asmx web service (written with .Net 3.5), I'll be accessing this service from a Silverlight 3 app, and I want to add the service to an existing asp.net web site (written with .Net 2.0). How do I go about doing that? I tried the obvious route of just copying the entire project folder to the web site, but I experienced a number of errors when trying to view the asmx page from a browser.
There's already a service on the web site, and all it has is the asmx file, the dll and a web.config in the folder, and that's where I'm at right now with me new service. It appears to instantiate just fine, but when I call a method in t, nothing happens (the AsyncCompleted events never fire).

I have looked at nearly every single WCF Rest PUT/POST issues on SO here and have still been unable to determine why I am unable to PUT or POST to my web service but am able to call a test GetTime method via GET. This particular service exchanges custom credential information (username, password and some other information) for a token. This token information is encrypted and added to the header of subsequent requests to other web services so that username/passwords don't have to be passed around everywhere. All web service calls are still treated as stateless, but require this auth header information rather username/passwords to access secured service operations.
[Code]....
I have also checked in IIS 7 the handler mappings for *.svc and checked that 'all verbs' are enabled.

I have an OData WCF service in my ASP.NET project that i use to read and update an SQL-Server database.For one of the tables, the primary key is a DateTime field. When trying to access specific rows through the OData service, the uri looks like this: "http://server/odataservice/stats(datetime'2009-12-12T00:00:00')".When trying to update this table through the service, or browsing to it, it gives only an error. The error is sent before the WCF service is ever contacted, and as far as i've been able to find it's because the IIS does not allow colons in uri's, only in queries, for security reasons (something about NTFS).
The actual IIS error is "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server ErrorThe requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid", but it seems a bit misleading.If i remove the colons and browse to "http://server/odataservice/stats(datetime'2009-12-12')" it works as expected. However i'm clueless as how i'm supposed to be able to do this in by C# client that is bound to the OData service. It also feels very hacky to edit the uri on the client or on the server on the fly, i would rather have a proper solution.I'm using a hosted IIS, so i cannot as far as i know change it's configuration to allow colons, even if that was possible.

I need to call a Rest service but would like to do so without having to redirect. Here is my dilemma. The Rest service we are trying to integrate offers the option to sign up for a subscription but does not allow us to upgrade an existing subscription. So if a user wants to upgrade an existing subscription we have to first cancel and then have the user sign up for a brand new subscription. I don't know how I can make this so it flows nicely in my code. I ideally I would like to do something like this
User decides to upgrade
Click upgrade button
Existing account is being cancelled, if cancellation was successful
New account is being created
How can I do this with a Rest service? Here is a sample URI/URL
https://someservice.com?
Action=CancelSubscriptionAndRefund
&AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAIIFXJCFIHITREP4Q
&CallerReference=CallerReference07
&CancelReason=MyWish
&RefundAmount.CurrencyCode=USD
&RefundAmount.Value=1
&SignatureMethod=HmacSHA256
&SignatureVersion=2
&Signature=1uFUSSFvau1zadnSzKRS5ZchuLMn9p5M3ifaHGHie7M%3D
&SubscriptionId=17d62772-c53e-4bdb-9667-65d7b7841cfc
&Timestamp=2009-10-06T08%3A05%3A13.296Z
&Version=2008-09-
Could anybody give me some ideas how to make this work in an elegant manner. We thought we could keep the old subscription and then just sign the user up for a new subscription for the difference of the money. For example the first subscription would be 2.95 and the second one would be 2.00 which would amount to a subscription of 4.95. I think it is not elegant and the user would see 2 charges on the credit card, weird, I think. Since I don't know much about Rest maybe there is a way that this can be solved.

I have been given some basic documentation of the RazorGator REST API and need to incorporate it into an ASP.NET 3.5 site. I've created my class file to call the API which contains my WebRequest.Create ("URL TO API"). How do I then make the output available so that it can be consumed by other pages? That is, the tickets.aspx page needs to obtain the output results of this API call. What constructs should I use to make this available in tickets.aspx?
Edit
Here's the code I've written thus far:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.IO;
using System.Net;
using System.Text;
namespace SeatEater.Web.UI.search
{
public class RazorGatorService
{
HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("https://api.razorgator.com/ticketservice/ticets.xml?blahblah") as HttpWebRequest ;
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();
Stream receiveStream = response.GetResponseStream();
StreamReader readStream = new StreamReader(receiveStream, encode);
response.close();
readStream.close();
}
}
I receive the error message:
A field initializer cannot reference the nonstatic field, method, or property 'field'
in the second line of the above codeblock. I'm very new to using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse. Can you advise me as to how to rectify the error message I'm receiving?

I am facing problem to consume rss feeds, I found several articles on How to consume RSS feeds, they helped me to some extened but I didn't get info for what exactly i am looking. My problem is: I tried to consume feeds from these two [URL]
I've used this code to get the feeds info XmlTextReader readerSport = new XmlTextReader [URL]
DataSet dsSport = new DataSet();
dsSport.Clear();
dsSport.ReadXml(readerSport);
for both the feed dataset have same 8 tables but with diffrent names, and if i write the xml using the folloing code
XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
xmlDoc.Load("[URL]");
//xmlDoc.Load("[URL]");
xmlDoc.Save(Server.MapPath("~/sowetan.xml"));
after observing the genrated xml, both the xml have diffrent structure.
1. What information required to display the feed content?
2. if we have diffrent structures for the genrated xml how can we write a single transform method?
3. Is all the 8 tables data required for displayingrss content, In most article i found they've used only for table 3
4. I want to open the feed content on my webpage, how it can be done.

I'm currently working on an ASP.NET Website where I want to retrieve data from an RSS feed. I can easily retrieve the data I want and get it to show in i.e. a Repeater control.My problem is, that the blog (Wordpress) that I'm getting the RSS from uses for linebreaks which I obviously can't use in HTML. I need to replace these with a <br /> tag.
SyndicationFeed myFeed = SyndicationFeed.Load(XmlReader.Create("urltofeed/"));
IEnumerable<SyndicationItem> items = myFeed.Items;
foreach(SyndicationItem item in items)

i have not worked with XML in a while can someone post the syntax needed to build and save an xml node structure that resembles that of a tree structure that is created by a recursive function.
basically i have a recursive function that saves data found an a page(url) and then follows each URL found on that page recursivley and does the same to it. to audit this i want an output as a xml file to disk so i can see how it is doing its recursion and parsing.
the code i have is below. please add to it the needed xml calls needed to create a xml structure like the one i show below. (please include the full name space so i can see where the objects i need in .net are for this.)
page1.htm has 2 links on it:
<a href=page1_1.htm>
<a href=page1_2.htm>
page1_1.htm has 2 links on it
<a href=page1_1_a.htm> (this then will have some links also)
<a href=page1_1_b.htm> (this then will have no more links on it - dead end)
the xml should do something like this:
<node url=page1.htm>
...<node url=page1_1_a.htm>
...... <node url="xxx.htm"/>
...... <node url="yyy.htm".>
... </node>
...<node url=page1_1_b.htm />
</node>

tried so many different things but havent got past this seemingly trivial problem. I created a WCF service application from visual studio 2010 WCF templates. it generated the IService.cs and Service1.svc files and generated the web.config
i created a website in IIS 7 on windows 2008, and pointed it to the app folder. when i go to [URL] via web browser, i get a message indicating service is running and suggests using svcutil etc etc., but when i go to [URL] the web browser says 400 bad request. this is without changing anything from what VS generated. the operation contract looks like
[Code]....
Update: forgot to mention i even tried decorating the operation with WebGet attribute with UriTemplate parameter, without luck.

I am using the new .NET 4 WCF REST web services. In order to link resources, I'd like to put links in my responses. In ASP.NET I can generate URLs from my routing configuration (e.g. UrlHelper.Action(...))
With WCF REST web services I have an ASP.NET routing configuration plus Uri templates:
[WebGet(UriTemplate = "{id}")]
MyResult Index(string id) {...}
I want to store related URIs in my result objects. How can I construct URLs from my routing configuration + UriTemplates without hardcoding base URLs or other information?

I'm considering to host WCF Rest Service that i've built on IIS 7. The URL to access my service will be something like

Recently, i've been looking to some REST API implementation with a clean URL like Yahoo API

I'm wondering what will be the best WCF host environment (e.g. Windows Service) or any solution (e.g. URL rewrite module) considering that I dont want to have application name and .svc in my URL so that I can have a completely clean URL for my REST API
