AJAX :: JS Stops Working After DropDown Filled With Code Behind?
Jan 10, 2011
I am using asp:ScriptManager and asp:UpdatePanel to populate a DropDown , and for every field need to display hits in div.In order to Implement the hint I am using JS, it works fine unless I started to populate a dropdown based on another one.
here is some code lines from page and JS
<asp:ScriptManager ID="sm" runat="server" EnablePageMethods="true"></asp:ScriptManager>
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="up0">
<ContentTemplate>
<dd><asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="CCategory" CssClass="lst" ValidationGroup="Property" AutoPostBack="true" onselectedindexchanged="CCategory_SelectedIndexChanged" /><span class="hint">Please choose a city where you want to or having a property.<span

I tried to use a DropDown-Control (WebDropdown from Infragistics) for the following function: Let the user enter any text or if he wishes choosing by a context menu two different "Already exist entries" in the DropDown-List from where he can choose a value. The behaviour should be this for the DropDown: Right-clicking on the DropDown-Control, filling the DropDownList in the server depending on the choosen context menu item, opening the DropDownList in the client.
The way I tried to solve:
Open (by javascript) a context menu by right clicking on the control
[Code]....
What's the problem? The problem is, that the above javascript function does find the WebDropDown1 control only if it is called client side (e.g. with a OnClientClick button event), calling it from server side (as in the ContextMenu_ItemClick subroutine) it does not find the WebDropDown1 control. The error is shown (translated into english): run time error: object expected.
Maybe a completly different solution is necessary as I transfer a windows forms program into a web form ajax style program. I could use a textbox with dropdownextender for example. But the problem seems to be always the same: uncoupling the dropdown function, which is a client side one, by first filling the dropdownlist on server side, and then invoking the dropdown event makes the problem.

I'm using some JS to show some divs. The divs' content is set up in a MultiView control in the server. Depending on certain parameters, I trigger some postbacks to make the server select the appropriate view. The problem is that everything works if I keep the alert(1); below, but stops working if I remove it.
Here is the code. I have a button which its OnClick() calls ShowEditor(), with an element and a type. ShowEditor() makes the editor's div visible after raising a postback to let the server select the correct view in the MultiView based on the type. This works fine. The editor loads and there is a div inside (vwText_Text1) which I'd like to assign an OnClick event to. This only works if the alert() is present.

Some time ago I converted an old windows application to a web application. This web application works fine as a stand alone app. I was recently informed that my client had a new standard layout and they are using a master page. They sent me the master page.
The web application is quite basic in that it makes a number of calls to a web service to retreive a list of customer, retrieve list of products and allows customer to create an order containing products.
I did the following to get make use of master page:
Copied it to my solution Update the page directive to include the MasterPageFile attribute and set it to point to master pageAdded the relevant content areas to my page Copied my code (control declarations etc) into the relevant content areas. The application compiles correctly and renders as expected. However, it does not behave as expected.
For example, I display a list of customers in a GridView. The user can select a customer by clicking the select button that is present for each row in GridView. I do this once and select a customer the page is posted back and relevant row is selected. I select a different customer and the page it posted back but this time the selected row does not change. It is still shown as the first row i selected.
This functionality works as expected if i remove the master page attribute and content areas.

I have a formview that I open to the edit template, some textboxes are not available and some are populated by dropdown lists, and the update function works fine.
As soon as I add some logic to the code behind page for the update control, the UPDATE link on the formview stops updating my DB.

We have an updatepanel in our site and there are a number of linkbuttons in it. Please note that the site works fine in all browsers without proxy the proxy changes the url from for instance [URL] to 0-[URL] it also works fine in all browsers but IE the issue is that under proxy and in IE8, it gives an error when clicking one of the linkbuttons, the error message is "Webpage error details User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; Tablet PC 2.0; InfoPath.1; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E) Timestamp: Sun, 13 Mar 2011 20:38:58 UTC

This is not a big issue since it's quite easy to bypass by making a new project and copying everything on it, but it bothers me quite a bit that I can't figure out what it is about. In short my calendar and calendar extenders stop working suddenly. The last time this happened I made some changes to the pages code behind, then hit undo gazillion times to go back to the last save. After that I hit debug and lo and behold: calendar did not respond to any clicks and any text field with calendar extender did not show calendar on clicking them.
This happens in both IE8 and FireFox 3.6 and no amount or restart, rebuild and other such tricks do nothing. The only thing that I can figure out to solve the problem is either use a backup copy of a version that works or make a new project and then copy all the files from the not working into the new/earlier version and all works again. I was able to track down that this seems to relate somehow to AJAX as when I ran the debug I mention above, I got error messages on the web page saying something about AJAX. This however happened only once and I cant get it to happen again (and thus can not remember much about what it said).
Also when I debugged the event handling the calendar click, I get an error message like this: There is no source code available for the current location Then it opens a file search window trying to find some cs file inside the ajax control toolkit. However this only happened the first time I tried debugging the event and I can't remember more details about it. Now I just get that error message when debug exits the event.
So end analysis on my part: The ajax control tool kit gets knotted up all of a sudden for some mysterious reason and is tied to that particular project. Can anyone tell me what this could be about?

I have an Ajax timer that has an interval of 1 second and an update panel on my page. If I leave the page open and never close or refresh I notice that after 6 to 8 hours the timer stops firing. No error messages.......everything just stops. If I refresh the page everything starts working again. Are there any issues I am not aware of when running a page for a long time using the Ajax timer?

I have a gridview in an updatepanel that is set to always update. I have a delete command button in an item tamplate. For this delete button I am using a ConfirmButtonExtender and ModalPopupExtender for deleting. This works fine initially when the page first loads. However, if I edit an item in the grid (which hides the grid and displays the selected item's info) and either save or cancel (which displays the grid again) and then try the delete, the modal popup displays, and if I click yes to delete, the row will now not delete. The delete command does not fire. Here is the code for my gridview.

I've got a problem that after i refresh an update panel all the HoverMenu's stop displaying, it still calls the WebMethod which returns valid html and the panel is displayed, but it content of the panel isn't displayed on the browser.
I've created a single page to demo this problem:
aspx
[Code]....
vb.net
[Code]....
The demo shows the hovermenu working until you click the update button then it stops showing the content, although it is still calling the WebMethod onhover.
I am using VS2008, .net Framework 3.5 and toolkit 3, 0, 30930, 0

I am new to Ajax Control Toolkit, with the help of online tutorials I had created a cascading dropdown list in asp.net and tested it on my local machine. For this dropdown list data source would be an xml file (which is saved on my local machine c drive). I haven't encountered any issues until I deploy the precompiled web site on to IIS 7. When I open the web site from IIS I would see the two dropdown boxes on the web page with an error "Method error 500". I believe this error occured due to incorrect xml file
path provided on IIS. I had copied xml and xsd files into IIS server C drive but it did not help out and then I created a network map and placed the xml and xsd files in that shared folder tried to access that path from web service, it's working on local machine but not on IIS. It would be great, if any one could explain me the solution.

Running solution with VB.NET & C#, ASP.NET, VS 2008 with ReSharper 5 Most of the time, ReSharper is working (redundant code grayed out, squiggles, etc.) Sometimes, on the same code where it was working, nothing is highlighted to show ReSharper is enabled. I haven't done anything except modify code and debug. What is going on that turns it on/off?

I have a web form where I have three dropdowns for Country State And City and there corresponding
ajaxToolkit:CascadingDropDowns.
The dropdowns are working perfectly fine with the web service methods. i.e country loading initially and then State as per selected Country and City as per the selected City.
The problem occurs when I try to set selected values in these dropdowns as per the Values previously saved.
The Country loads properly and the selected value is set according.
The State is filled as per the selected country but its selected value is not set.
The City is not loaded at all (as the state doesn't have a selected value)
The Code is as Follows:

I developed and deployed a web application using ASP.NET,C# successfully. The application was running perfectly until few days back. [NOTE: It still works fine on local machine (tested using both development server and IIS)] What happens now is: The website opens perfectly. After few operations which involves database interactions, in all the pages, the pages stop responding. I mean, after a few clicks, if I try another operation the page starts postback for unlimited time period and never gets rendered
and a following message is given: The connection was reset: Firefox 3.5... IE cannot display the web page: IE 7, 8 There is no database connectivity issues. I checked event logs on the web server and found few unhandlled exceptions, I corrected those. Now the event log doesn't show any error. But the problem is same.
I tried accessing the page from web server's browser, everything works fine. Even my boss can browse all pages with no problem (both have Win Server installed). Other machines (mostly XP) can't browse after sometime(as described above). I checked the memory usage, cpu time - NO ISSUES.

I am creating an application that uses jQuery to make ajax calls to ASP.NET WCF Web Service.
