How do I achieve this:-When user types character like 'abcd' and then '>'(an invalid character for my application), I want to set the text back to 'abcd'. Better if we can cancel the input itself as we do in winforms application. This should happen when user is typing and not on a click of button.I want this to be applied on all text boxes in my web page. This will be easy if the solution is jQuery based. May be something which will start like this.$("input[type='text']")SOLUTIONI used both of the answer provided by @jAndy and @Iacopo (Sorry, couldn't mark as answer to both) as below.
$(document).ready(function() { //makes sure that user cannot enter < or > sign in text boxes. $("input:text").keyup(purgeInvalidChars)
Breaking out the required field validation helped me get the date textbox to behave the way I need. Just positioning validation messages and such. Behavior I like here is that TextBox has no mask to start (focus off of textbox). When you put the cursor in the textbox or the textbox gets focus then the mask shows up: __/__/____. As you type the underscore placeholders dissapear but the '/' chars stay in place.
And finally, this is key, when you have a correct date and take the focus away from the text box the dashes stay in place. I just realized that is because the date mask seems to fill in the blank spaces with the current date. I cannot get this behavior with a phone. Granted there is no phone mask type. Here is the phone code:
I have tried MaskType set to number but it doesn't change the behavior. Right now the dashes dissapear when I take the focus off of the phone textbox. One thing I noticed with date is that if it is incomplete when it loses focus it fills in the rest with the current date values. Since there is no Phone mask type that behavior is not built in. Does anyone know how to set a default behavior so if you type in 55 in would automatically finish? 555-55-5555 And when you take the focus off it would keep the dashes. But if the textbox is empty I want with no focus the mask should dissapear completely.
I am using the AJAX Toolkit MaskedEditExtender to format some of my web form's textboxes. When I load the page and start to enter data into the textboxes, the masking doesn't show. I've included my page code below:
using java script with update panel. I have checkbox, textbox with MaskedEditExtender inside update panel in web content form. I want to change the mask for MaskedEditExtender when I check the checkbox without doing pastback for the update panel using java script
I want a TextBox with a mask like (xxx) xxx-xxxx using a MaskedEditExtender. I tried to set up the mask property to "(999) 999-9999" or "(999) 999-9999" but nothing works. It there a way I can have the mask I want?
I ran into a strange issue with the AJAX MaskedEditExtender control, the extender is used with the Mask="99/99/9999" and MaskType="Date". Initially when the page loads the textbox was set to readonly using textbox.Attributes.Add("readonly", "readonly") in the codebehind. After the page loads if the user clicks on a certain button it would change the textbox to editable using javascript code: textbox.readOnly = false. The strange thing is after that if you start typing in the textbox you can see the entire mask (__/__/____) shifting to the right as you type. For example it looks something like this: 09__/__/____ instead of the normal 09/__/____.
If the textbox was never set to readonly in the first place this behavior won't happen. So it seems something got messed up when changing from readonly to not. I was able to reproduce this in a barebone aspx page with just the textbox, the mask extender, and a button that when clicked turning off the textbox's readonly. Anyone knows how I can fix this?
I have confronted a problem of using MaskedEditExtender when try to restrict user to input a number mask with mask. User input of course has no problem. The problem is when the system get the value from database or somewhere (doing assignation), the textbox show the wrong value with the following mask setting: I am writing to contribute and share my solution: example:
textbox1: 1.1 (user input) by using the following mask: <asp:MaskedEditExtender ID="meeXML" runat="server" TargetControlID="textbox1" Mask="999.99" MessageValidatorTip="true" OnFocusCssClass="MaskedEditFocus" OnInvalidCssClass="MaskedEditError" MaskType="Number" InputDirection="RightToLeft" AcceptNegative="Left" ClearMaskOnLostFocus="True" ErrorTooltipEnabled="True"/> When the system get back the data, textbox1 will show: textbox1: 0.11 <- that is not the actual what I want: ========================================== the solution: ========================================== <asp:MaskedEditExtender ID="meeXML" runat="server" TargetControlID="textbox1" Mask="NNNNNNNNNNNN" MessageValidatorTip="true" OnFocusCssClass="MaskedEditFocus" OnInvalidCssClass="MaskedEditError" MaskType="Number" InputDirection="RightToLeft" AcceptNegative="Left" ClearMaskOnLostFocus="True" Filtered="." ErrorTooltipEnabled="True"/>
I have a string with 100 characters and it is for me too long in one line. I want to make NewLine after each 25 characters. For example:
Instead: "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua."
I have a application that takes a tab delimited text file parses and the inserts the data. Some of the data has international characters. My problem is it appears that my application is changing the characters. For Example the file might contain something lke this Andrlová and is converting it to this Andrlov
I am passing this into a sproc. The datatypes for my paramater & DB Field is nVarChar(50). If I insert the data directly into my table or if I call my sproc from a query window and pass in some data it works fine, but when my app touches the data it appears to get messed with.
I have a small problem I am getting with the Autocomplete in my asp page, It uses a sql 'LIKE' query to find results from the database but after I type more than 3 Characters the autocomplete results dont filter any further even though there are results, I have tested the query seperatly and I works fine and as I said also works fine for the first 3 characters..

to fix the following "feature" of Htmleditor:1. Go to Htmleditor demo http://www.asp.net/ajax/ajaxcontroltoolkit/samples/htmleditor/htmleditor.aspx 2. Type "æøåąčęėįšųūžвьпаджфк" or something more or less weird there 3. Press Submit buttonResult: First free letters (danish) are replaced with question marks, all other letters (lithuanian and russian) remains as they should. What's wrong with danish letters and can it be fixed without replacing such letters with html escape sequences?
i have used ajax control toolkit masked editor extender.i want to remove "_" from masking pattern and want to replace it with space. for ex. want " - - " instead of this
We're currently using FTEs to filter input on our registration. New business model wants to explore foreign markets, and I have not been able to figure out how to get the FTEs to accept foreign language characters.
I have Russian blog built with BlogEngine.NET 1.5.
I use Russian words in links encoded with URLEncode, so links are human-readable in most browsers - FF, Chrome, Opera (except for IE, but this is not the real problem with this browser). This idea is not mine, I borrowed it from Wikipedia - it uses encoded URLs on localized sites.
The real problem is that when I am trying to add comment in IE8 it fails (and only on production machine, development environment works fine).
Using Fiddler I found out that IE tries to send AJAX callback using WebForm_DoCallback to wrong address - it seems that it decodes URL, gets wrong characters and asks page with that wrong address from server and (of course) receives 404.
Here is how incorrect request from IE looks in Fiddler:
POST /ru/post/-.aspx HTTP/1.1
Here is how FF makes same request and gets correct response:
POST /ru/post/%D0%92%D1%81%D1%82%D1%83%D0%BF%D0%B8%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5-%D1%81%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE.aspx HTTP/1.1
I upgraded solution from default ASP.NET 2.0 for BE to ASP.NET 3.5 but this changed nothing. I made some minor changes in BE to allow properly encoded UTF links - by default it wipes out percent symbol from links.
what wrong is with IE behavior here and how to fix it? Why development environment under ASP.NET Development works different from production machine under IIS6? Why IE does not decode link in address bar (like other browsers) but does it when making request?
I recently switched from freetextbox to the built in Ajax editor because of issues ftb had with update panels. The Ajax editor works great except for one problem, it messes up my spanish characters. For instance, it will replace ñ with ? and post the to my database. Is there anyway to not make it do this and leave it as the actual ñ ? if the same characters is placed in a standard textbox it will submit with no problem.
Only the first input character was automatically converted to uppercase. The rest inputs are not converted. Do you know what changes I need to make it work?
I have a text box and ajax autocomplete control extender in my Master Page that it is not working at all. When I type some characters on the text box it doesn't trigger the autocomplete. I have a web service that contains the function code. I est my code on a single Web Page (No Master Page) and it works perfectly. Also, it works fine if I include the text box and the extender on the Content Page instead of on the Master Page. It is important to keep the text box in the Master Page for me. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and ASP 3.5. MASTER PAGE.
