AJAX :: .Net 3.5 JSON And WCF Serialization?
Feb 12, 2010
I'm trying some WCF ajax.net 3.5 out for the first time, and I'm having some difficulties. I have a WCF Service which I have connected to in my aspx page using <asp:ScriptManager>. I have a custom object which has been decorated as a [DataContract]. I'm calling the object from javascript successfully, I can see the JSON response in FireBug, but Sys.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.deserialize() chokes on it. I'm sure I'm making a noob mistake, but I used up all my patience getting the Web.Config values right for running the WCF service.
Here's a mockup of what I'm doing.

I am using .Net Framework 3.5 on an ASP.net web project using jquery.ajax to make web service calls. My web service returns objects serialized as JSON by specifying the content type of my POST as "application/json". I would like just one of my many properties to return a non quoted javascript function name instead of a quoted string. Serialized as such:
{"dataInit": functionName, "id": "myID"}
instead of
{"dataInit": "functionName", "id":"myID"}

I'm getting the error from the subject line when I try to move some code that formerly lived in the App_Code directory to an external library (that would be moved into the /bin directory). What do I need to include or reference to get rid of this error?
I've already included: System.Runtim.Serialization (says it's version 3.0.0, I don't see a version 3.5.0 anywhere).

Why this WCF 3.5 method
[ServiceContract]
[AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)]
public class Json
{
[OperationContract]
[WebGet(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)]
public string Upper(string text)
{
return text.ToUpper();
}
}
returns {"d":"TEXT"} ?
It should returns {"TEXT"}
I'm calling using jQuery.
$("#upper").click(function() {
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "/Json.svc/Upper?text="+$("#input1").val(),
success: function(data) {
$("#input1").val(data.d);
}
});
});

in Json.net we can rename the property with [JsonPropertyAttribute("")] ,
public class Foo
{
// how can I rename the Foo1 property name to F1?!
public string Foo1 { set; get; }
public string Foo2 { set; get; }
}
and in the web service code behind :
[WebMethod]
public List<Foo> GetFoos()
{
List<Foo> post = new List<Foo>
{
new Foo(),
new Foo(),
new Foo()
};
return post;
}

I have a class that contains an enum property, and upon serializing the object using JavaScriptSerializer, my json result contains the integer value of the enumeration rather than its string "name". Is there a way to get the enum as a string in my json without having to create a custom JavaScriptConverter? Perhaps there's an attribute that I could decorate the enum definition, or object property, with?As an example:
enum Gender { Male, Female }
class Person
{

I want to use the DataContractJsonSerializer class. This is contained within theSystem.Runtime.Serialization.Json namespace and the System.ServiceModel.Web dll.or some reason, when I add the using directive for the namespace, Visual Studio says it doesn't recognise the Json namespace in System.Runtime.Serialization.When I try to add the System.ServiceModel dll, nothing happens, which suggests to me it's already referenced. (Because nothing also happens when I try to add a reference to System.Web which is definitely referenced!)

I am new to WCF, I was using web service asmx before. I have trouble on making my wcf JSON ajax service work through http like asmx.Could you help me see what wrong in my code?My WCF services are defined in my website application folder. My aim is to call this service in my aspx page java-script code and return complex object back as JSON to my javascript. I have no problem on doing this through classic asmx web service.
When I try to test it through my browser by type this in the URL , URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc/GetAll. it return "Method not allowed."
But if I type just this URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc, it return this:
WCFCompanyService Service
You have created a service.To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax:
svcutil.exe URL-http://localhost:3849/WebServices/Account/WCFCompanyService.svc?wsdl
This will generate a configuration file and a code file that contains the client class. Add the two files to your client application and use the generated client class to call the Service. For example:
C#
class Test { static void Main() { HelloClient client = new HelloClient();
[Code]....
This is my Ajax-enabled WCF service code:
[Code]....
This is the web.config service model setting

I have a text file named gisQuery129.json that is created using Json.NET - [URL] There is an example on how to create a JSON file and I have done that successfully, but I want to read the file on a page load event and add the values to .NET textbox controls for input values in a query. The created file looks like the following:
{
"myData": {
"randomNumber": "129",
"Application": "MyMapApp",
"FeatureId": "ALL",
"Feature": "ALL",
"spatialQuery": "FEATURE_ID= '11111' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 1 AND RAND_PARAM= 129 OR FEATURE_ID= '22222' AND REQ_SEQ_NUM= 2 AND RAND_PARAM= 129"
}
}
I want to read the data in the above sample JSON data and then populate my textboxes something like this:
txtRandParam.text = "129"
txtApplication.text = "MyMapApp" and three more text boxes after that.

In my javascript code I am getting json string from cs file
var tmpString="<%=resultset2%>";
In cs I am concatenating strings to build json string. Here is an issue the json string is returned as a string and it has " with it.
"[{id:'1',name:'Aik'},{id:'2',name:'Aik or Aik'}]"
Because of " in beginning and end javascript code treat it as a string.

I am using an AJAX.Net to call an ASP.Net PageMethod, which returns JSON serialized JSON data
{"d":"[{"Fromaddress":"testfrom1@test.com","Toaddress":"testto1@test.com"},{"Fromaddress":"testfrom2@test.com","Toaddress":"testto2@test.com"}]"}
The Response Header states the content type as
"Content-Type application/json; charset=utf-8"
However, the data is just available as a string, and does not seem to be available as JSON data from javascript. What do I need to do to work with the returned data as JSON from javascript?

I have developed a wcf service for asp.net ajax client. It includes the following steps.
(1) Created WCF sevice contract with the operation "DoWork()" which will take string as input and retun string as output.
(2)Implemented the above operation contract(attributed the implementation class with aspnetcompatibility requirement as enabled).
(3)Added the webscriptenabled to endpoint in web.config file.
(4)Hosted the wcf servie.
(5)Downloaded the javascript file from the service.(e.g.,http://localhost/service1.svc/js)
Client
(1)Opend new asp.net webapplication.
(2)Added the downloaded .js file.
(3)Given the scripts path for ajaxscript manager as both .js file and service url.
e.g
<asp:ScriptManager
ID="id1"
runat="server">
<Scripts>
<asp:ScriptReference
Path="http://localhost:3443/Service1.svc/js/"
/>
<asp:ScriptReference
Path="~/js1.js"
/>
</Scripts>
</asp:ScriptManager>
(4)With this I am unable to call service method

I am lost, I am posing a jSon result to an MVC ActionResult and I cannot get it done. What I have is on the View:
[Code]....
With Firebug I can see that I am posting a jSon result with the result I selected. This result is comming from a select list(UnAssignedPages) as the items selected.
Now I want to iterate over that list in the controller and I cannot find an example of how to do it? I found a jSon value provider from Phil Haack [URL] but I was specifically told not to use the Futures Library. Is there any example of how to accept a jSon result in an ActionResult?

For now, I just want to use HTTP POST to send json to asp.net mvc2 controller.Since the JSON is actually a list of JSON objects, and each of them has different fields & length, so it hard for me to make up a input model.So I want to know is there a way for me to post JSON without model/ajax to a controller in ASP.NET MVC2?

I've been tasked with implementing a JSON feed on an asp.net website that will be consumed by 3rd party apps (such as IPhone, Android, etc) and I'd like to follow best practices.
An example of what I'd like to achieve would be something similar to: [URL]
I've chosen the JSON.net api as this seems to be highly recommended.
My Google-fu must be failing me as I can't find a single full example code for an Asp.net web application with JSON.net implemented on it, so I've no real concept of where to begin.
My question is fairly simple:
Should I create this sort of feed as an ASPX, or ASHX file? Or even a .NET Web Service? (Remember that the tools that will be using this feed are on external apps like IPhones, etc)
I created a test feed in both ASHX and ASPX format ... here is the code (I'm using Subsonic to populate the collection) ... are either of these along the correct lines?
ASPX:

My json response contains json with structure (eg. "[[[],[]]]") but no actual content.
AJAX code:
[Code]....
It definitely recognizes structure (if I change the xml nodes, it reflects in the []'s) but just isn't inserting any content. I tried prefixing the web method with "<ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat:=ResponseFormat.Json)>" but it made no difference.

I posted this on Stack overflow [URL] but have not had a solution, just completely different way of doing it without using the Ajax.* helpers so I'm wondering if anyone has an Ajax.* solution here?I'm using MVC 3. I have a method on the controller that returns a Json object, according to this question it should be returned to me as Json, but I am finding that is not the case[URL]
here's the code that I have:
[Code]....
And the controller:
[Code]....
The first message box displays the response text which is:{"Success":True, "objectId":"testing"}
the second message box displays undefinedSo it is coming back to the client correctly, I'm just not sure how to get it out?...Stefan

I am having problems making an AJAX call when the response is over 2MB. Anything with a response under 2MB works fine. When the response is over 2MB, my "success" method never gets called. My application is ASP.NET MVC2.
I am making the call using the jQuery AJAX call:
$.ajax({ type: "post", data: ajaxData, url: ajaxUrl, success: updateItems, cache: false });
In my controller, I am using the Json() action result method:
public ActionResult GetItems(....) { ...
return Json(packet); }
When I watch the call in Fiddler it comes back with a HTTP 500 response. I tried setting the maxJsonLength in the Web.config file as shown here, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. How to allow a response over 2MB?
