AJAX :: Using DynamicPopulateExtender?

Aug 03, 2010 07:26 AM

I have a MySql database in which I store user names. Now on the search page of my site I want to populate search results without posting back, I googled it and found that the DynamicPopulateExtender can do it but I have no idea how. What I have done is...there is an asp:textbox named "txtSearch" and an asp:button named "btnSearch" and an asp:panel (extended by the dynamicpopulateextender) and i want do display results on this panel, remember in order to retrieve results i have to connect to the MySql database.

Beginner Simple Question - Looking For Sample Code To Read A Table And Filter Its Fields?

Dec 08, 2009 07:29 PM

I haven't done anything in Asp.Net yet. As my first project I need to open a SQL table and display its 3 fields:

product
price
date

I want to be able to filter the data by using listboxes and picking any of the 3 fields. The data should be displayed in pages as there will be many records. I should be able to 'undo' the filter to display all records and also display a calendar to pick out the date to filter by date.

Question #1: Do I use customScript or ServiceMethod that link to the function below

Dim oldSubTotal = Eval("Subtotal")
'Bind("Subtotal") = oldSubTotal + Eval(nEntry) <--- I know Bind("Subtotal") don't work because Bind is not declared

AJAX :: ControlToolkit Undefined When Browsing To Sample Web

Jun 11, 2007 10:15 PM

When I browse to the sample website at [URL] from most of the computers in our network, they get the javascript error "'AjaxControlToolkit' is undefined" and none of the controls work. I'm pretty sure the sample web is correct, so why would this happen? I just was demoing this to my boss and it didn't work on his computer, so he's getting wary about us using Ajax at all now because of all the tech support calls we might get if users start getting this error. At the least he wants to know why it didn't work on his so we could tell our customers what to do if they get the error. I only got it to work on mine after I installed the toolkit on my own computer, but I don't know if that was a coincidence. I'm running IE 6 and my boss is running 7. I've also tried on 2 other computers that also gets this error and they're running 6.

AJAX :: Simple Async "Server Push" Using AJAX And Web Service?

Jan 21, 2011 05:23 PM

this has probably been discussed before but perhaps not enough as I haven't been able to find any literature on this method (parts are documented, but not as a whole I guess)Anyways, you start with a web service, and you call that web service client side with ASP.NET AJAX javascript. Once you get a reply, you can call a artial postback using __doPostback(a, b) and "a" is the control id of an updatepanel in your page and "b" can be an indicator for which web service you are using or your resulting data or both. Lastly you add a check for "a" and "b" like this:

[Code]....

Now you can execute any code behind function when you receive a response, and because it's async anything short of leaving the page and it will still postback when you get a response. For example, I have a site which display data from a database in a gridview and uses a client side web service to get the time last updated for a database, call the web service client side every second, then, when an update is detected, call a partial postback, alert the user, and update the gridview.Though this really is a hack, so I'm not sure if there any problems with this approach, if there's a simpler and better way to go about it (I'm all ears).

Simple Shopping Cart Using Session Variables Using AJAX

Feb 5 at 0:35

I know there are a million questions out there on how to implement a shopping cart in your site. However, I think my problem may be somewhat different. I currently have a working shopping cart that I wrote back in the 1.1 days that uses ASP.NET session variables to keep track of everything. This has been in place for about 6 years and has served its purpose well. However, it has come time to upgrade the site and part of what I have been tasked with is creating a more, erm, user-friendly site. Part of this is removing updatepanels and implementing real AJAX solutions.

My problem comes in where I need to persist this shopping cart over several pages. Sure I could use cookies, but I would like to keep track of carts for statistical purposes (abandonment stats, items added but not bought, those kinds of stats) as well as ser-friendliness, like persisting their cart so that if they come back it is remembered. This is easy enough if a user is logged in, but I don't want to force a user to create an account if they don't want. Additionally, the way we were processing orders was a bit, ehh, slapped-together. All of the details (color selected, type selected, etc) are passed to paypal via their description string which for the most part is ok, but if a product has selections that are too long for the string (255 chars i believe), they are cut off and we have to call the customer to confirm what they bought. If I were to implement a more "solid" shopping cart, we wouldn't have to do that because all the customer's choices would be stored, in addition to the order automatically being entered into the order processing system (they're manually entered into an excel spreadsheet. i know, right).

I want to do this the right way, but I don't want to use any sort of overblown software that won't really work with our current business model. Do I use a cookie to "label" each visitor to match them with their cart (give them a cookie with a GUID) across pages, keep their whole cart client side, keep the cart server side and just pull it from the db on each page refresh?

VS 2008 Simple Image Toggle With AJAX Updatepanel And Timer

Aug 10th, 2010, 01:16 PM

I don't understand what the problem is with this. It should be a simple operation yet it doesn't work.

I found samples on how to do this, when I apply the sample, it doesn't work.

In my page I have this:

[code]....

When I run the page, after 5 seconds it switches from the first image to the second image and never switches back to the first image.

When I debug with a break in the code-behind, it looks like the timer ticks twice for every tick. So, when the image is sample2, it then changes back to sample1 and then immediately ticks again and switches back to sample2 with no update-panel refresh in between.

AJAX :: Controls Inside JQuery Simple Modal Making?

Mar 06, 2011 02:13 PM

I've created a sign up form in a normal .aspx page, with some TextBoxWatermarkExtendes, PasswordStrength, RegularExpressionValidator, and more..it worked perfectly..I have inserted it all inside the modal content div in this SimpleModal:http://www.ericmmartin.com/projects/simplemodal-demos/(the OSX style dalog)
the First problem:I have a toolkit script manager, and an update panel surrounding the "username" textbox, with enabled autopostback, so it checks if user is taken or not when the textbox looses focus and shows a message in label..when it runs for the first time (when it's working) first of all, the passwordStrength control doesn't work, secondly, after I type something in the username textbox and make it lose focus (press tab or click outside), it's watermark text of course gets deleted when i focus on it, and another watermark text from another textbox gets deleted (i dont know why) SO after like 1 or 2 seconds, the text I wrote gets deleted and replaced by the watermark, for BOTH textboxes that had watermarks

Second problem:the first time, the it works normal, but when I close the modal and open it again, the textBoxWatermark changes to a normal text inside the textbox, even the "Sign up" button stops working, and expression validators and required validators and stuff stop working..

I'm just getting started with the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit and got it installed into Visual Studio 2008 without issue.I created a very simple sandbox web app by following several tutorials. Some pages have a single button with a modalpopup event, others are using a calendar extender on a textbox. I've gone through many, including ones that you can interact with and seeworking on the website. Each time, VS builds the web app without issue and deploys and runs. The problem, however, is that "no AJAX happens" when I try to use the app. This has happened on two separate PCs running Windows 7 - one with Pro and another running Ultimate, all 64-bit One machine was also running Visual Studio 2010 beta 2).When I hit a page with some of the toolkit controls, the page renders normally and I see a lot of script references in the generated HTML so something's happening.
