AJAX :: Facebook Notifications Update With Javascript?
Sep 6, 2010
how can i make notification counter like facebook notifications in the top left of the page , the question is how to make this counter and update a value using javascript or asp.net i want to make something like that , that is updated every 5 min. with the new counter.
On facebook we can see update's for Image's Video's,comments,friend added etc on our wall.I want to show same this in my project.The problem is that which data control should use for the same to show these different types of notifications/updates.
I have gone through your articles and I really enjoyed with all the facebook articles. In my aspx page in place of posting walls I want to send notification to facebook users. How can I do this.
I have a DataList containing a list of elements(ASP.Net app). To delete an item i first used tha classic javascript confirmation. As i found it ugly,i want to use a confirmation box plugin. when i click OK==>Delete the item from DB(using a webservice) But how can i update the DataList. The situation is liek: when u add a comment in Facebook. delete link==>Conf box==>Delete==>Comments List update.
I have a facebook app with an asp.net update panel. It works fine when running outside facebook, how ever once I run the app in Facebook the update panel stops working. I check the javascript console and found the following errors were occuring.
The message received from the server could not be parsed. Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.Write(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.
i have made a gridview which contains three fields, two textboxes and one combo box. ComboBox fetchs data from table(SQL) and when a combox box triggers, data related to combo must be added in two boxes. i did this throw another button, but i want this to be trigger directly when it clicks..
I noticed that whenever my clients connect their accounts to my application, the Sys.UI returns null and the MaskEditTextBox is not longer showing the mask ... in other words is not working.
i am attempting to use javascript to update the chart, because how i have setup now causes the chart to just disappear. Here is the code i have now: I am calling the chart to page using: on default.aspx
[Code]....
Code on the dataURL_Infrasturcture_Capacity.aspx page:
[Code]....
PROBLEM: So how would i update this using an update panel and timer. Currently when i do it the chart just disappears on update. I believethis is due to the fact that i am calling a dataURL. How would i get this to work javascript?
I'm using a an Ifram that switches between several pages, each page contain a report viewer and takes time to load (about five seconds) since I'm using an Ifram the end user will not notice the loading of the page behind the seen (report pages) he will only notice a quick loading of the Ifram page ! so I tried to use the update panel and the update progress to show a waiting or loading progress image when the page loads or post back . but this doesn't work in Ajax since Ajax is not compatable with the report viewer .is there any way to show a progress waiting message during the page load using Javascript ?I Found many scripts like this that show a waiting message or image BUT the script starts after the page loads completely (a silly loop for 3 seconds maybe then hide the message )
I'm looking for a way to use custom ASP.NET validators to validate input, without using UpdatePanels, and without a full postback. The validators do several things - not just length/regex, but some other non-standard stuff as well. Javascript is required for our users, so I don't have to worry about normal users who have javascript turned off. I see several options, but none are ideal:
1) Suck it up and use UpdatePanels. I'm in the "UpdatePanels are evil" group, so I'd prefer not to do this.
2) Without using validation controls, manually validate the fields by passing the values to a PageMethod static method, via jQuery or any other AJAX framework. This would require client and server coding each time I needed to use a validator.
3) Use jQuery (or any other javascript framework) validation for client validation, then if they somehow get by that, have server-code validation controls for full postback. This would require all of the validation rules to be written in javascript as well as C#. I don't care about the full failed postback at this point, because the javascript validation would catch real users who weren't trying to screw me over.
Is there alternative out there for using real CustomValidator controls, with partial postback, C# code only, for validating input without UpdatePanels and without a lot of redundant javascript?
i am using an update panel inside this i am using a jquery image upload which works fine outside an update panel, but when inside i think the javascript is not instalising. i have tried using RegisterClientScriptBlock without success.
the javascript is belo, because its a document.ready how can i make sure this is not lost in a update panel?
$(document).ready(function() { /* example 1 */ var button = $('#button1'), interval; new AjaxUpload(button, {
and then call a JS function. This is because I have more than one update panels and I'll have to write all the condions to check which UpdatePanel was actually called and then do something. Can something be done using Triggers in UpdatePanel. Kindly let me know how this can be done.
It would be great of you could post a sample code too.
In one of my webpage, I have a parent window where i have a datalist with 10 rows of images. when i click any image a pop up window(child window) opens.
The child window has a form to be filled by user. Once user fills this form, he will press the save button. Once the save button is clicked, the child window should be closed and the datalist(in the update panel) in the parent window should be refreshed.
This is how I am trying to achieve this. On click of the save button a javascript function is being called of the parent window like this: window.opener.refreshDataList();
in the refreshDataList() function I have written the following code:
This works like a charm in Internet Explorer. However in Mozilla and Chrome it doesnt work. While testing this I added an alert statement ind the refreshDataList() function like this..
I've written some pages with ASP.net Repeater and GridView objects. I've seen that some other programmers write pages with these objects; but they make these objects do very nifty things.
For example, I've seen pages where a user clicks on a button and a jQuery dialog appears. When the user enters data into the dialog and clicks a button, the data is submitted using AJAX and the gridview/repeater is updated without reloading the page or posting back. What are good practices for accomplishing this?
The code which shown above where the problem is javascript have not function which the certain command trigger and involved for the outer javascript which called from the ajax's update panel web control.
How to allow the javascript can be run where it's call from inner update panel, for now its will cause the errors one the update panel's web control call the outside JS/countdown.js file as well....

outside an update panel this works, but inside the script doesn't run, i have read on other posts that there is an issue with running javascript inside an updatepanel.

I am trying to develop two step size buttons + and - so that when you click either one, the AJAX SliderExtender will magically move itself by one. I have tried implementing the following functions:
here's what happens, I see that the BoundControl textbox works and it gets updated to 5. However, the slider still does not update to its new position. When the slider moves, a postback will occur. The Slider1 is the textbox that is the targetID to SliderExtender1 . The boundcontrolID is Slider1_BoundControl (textbox)
