MVC :: "Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object." In Ajax Calls
I have alist of itemson my page. There is a button in each row to edit that record. Record is being edited in jquery modal window. So I make an asynchronous call to server to displaydetail information about record without full page refresh.

User fills in data about that record and submits. If everything is ok, user is redirected back to page. But if validation fails I want to display that entry form again with errors.

If this call is done synchronously, users gets back form with filled data and errors, but without styles and javascript (because they are referenced from mail page) - that is ok

So I just wanted to refresh that modal dialog with asynchronous call. The problem is that Html.DropDownList or Html.TextBox extension methods fail with null reference exception. I have checkedthat real data are passed in as second parameter.

So I don`t understand where that null reference exception occurs, or what can I do?

The same call works if it is synchronous (Html.BeginForm) but fails if it is asynchronous (Ajax.BeginForm)

what can I do with it?

State Management :: Error Like: Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of Reference?
I have a url like this:

http://www.somepage.com/main.aspx. In this page, when I click on a link it takes me to a page
http://www.somepage.com/cental.aspx?cid=200. So in the cental.aspx.cs page I did the following in the page load:

if(request.querystring["comp"].tostring() != null)
{
//do some thing [code].....

So I got an error like: object reference not set to an instance of reference. My problem is, I am using the same page. So when I go from some page, I will have "comp". but other times not. So when there is no "comp", how do I handle it in request.querystring?

AJAX :: How To Hide The "edit" And "delete" Links/Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object
I am using the ajax reorderlist control from the latest Ajax Control toolkit. Based on the logged on user, I need to hide the "edit" and "delete" links. They should be visible to admin, and not visible to others. I used to control this when I was using a gridview just by calling the column and setting it's visible property to false. I have tried using:

ReorderListMinutes.TemplateControl.FindControl("lnkDeleteAgendaItem").Visible =
False

ReorderListMinutes.TemplateControl.FindControl("lnkEdit").Visible =
False

This returns an error of the dreaded "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Web Forms :: Session Ended - But Server Error/ Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of Object?
In the VS2005 environment, when I test my session to make sure the page redirects to the main page (itself) if the session is null, it works. There is no error.

The function I use for this is:

[code]....

However, when it is in the production environment in IIS 6.0, when the session has timed out, and I then do a postback by doing some slider control, I see the page reload but immediately thereafter, it throws a Server Error exception of : Object reference not set to an instance of object.

Looking at the stack trace, the event occured:

AJAXEnabledWebApplication1._Default.Slider1_TextChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)

however, why is it that the Slider1_TextChanged event fired even even after during page_load, the page was told to do a response.direct ?? shouldn't the entire page have gone through a full-page refresh life cycle ? why did it continue on to attempt to raise the Slider1_TextChanged event?

Forms Data Controls :: Shopping Cart - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object
I am trying to set up a shopping cart. I'm using a gridview to display the items, a datatable to display the cart, and ajax for partial page posting.

When I try to add something to the cart from the gridview, sometimes it adds but now most of the time it gives me the error "Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object".

When it does work, another issue I'm having is it is adding two for the quantity instead of one.

The full code is available at greeninkllc.com/code.txt if you view the source.

Web Forms :: Error When Using A BasePage Along With A Master Page/ Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object
I'm new to programming in ASP.NET, but I'm making my way through Wrox's Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in C# and VB.NET.

I'm at a section where I'm creating a BasePage. I successfully created a BasePage by creating a new class file in my App_Code folder called BasePage.cs with the following code:

[Code]....

If I run that code everything works out fine. The page loads and all is well. But, if I try to do the same thing to a page that uses my MasterPage.master file, I get the following error:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description:

An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Why is that? In the example code from the book (that also uses a MasterPage.master file), everything excutes and runs just fine. But in my test, I get the above error. I've tried comparing my pages to the books included source pages, but I can't find any differences.

Web Forms :: Unable To Read Web.config File/Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object
I have a website written in C# that wasrunning fine on one server. We moved it to another server and have a couple issues. I am mainly a VB.NET coder but can do a few things in C#. This isnot a project - it isa website and can open it in VS2008 no problem. This is an admin site for the whole website where the user can add customer comments, etc. When logging in, it works fine. I can go to one of the admin pages after logging in and works. If I go to two other different pages, I get this error:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

[Code]....

It turns out this is in the main.master page and it is used by the other pages that load fine. The ApplicationTitle variable is set right in the web.config file and like I said, it shows on the other pages.

My question is why would this code work fine for some pages and not two others? All of these admin pages are under a folder called Admin and the web.config file is in the root folder of the website. Its almost like these two pages cannot see the web.config file in the root folder? Why would that be if thats the case?

Visual Studio :: Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object - Web Application Project
Alittle background Iinstalled the VS 2005 Web Application Project V1.0 Release (installation was successfull) and followed Scott Guthrie'stutorial to the letter (below)

Tutorial 1: Building Your First Web Application Project
http://webproject.scottgu.com/CSharp/HelloWorld/Helloworld.aspx

However, I am getting the following error in My First Web Application Project: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." This happens as soon as I hit the F5 key (or CTRL+F5 key).

I have checked all the references and they all seem to be OK. I double checked myproject's properties and they match the screenshots from the tutorial.I added the ASPNET and NETWORK SERVICE users with Full Permissions to the physical path for my project(D:MyDNNProjects ). This didn't work either.I also tried to un-install and re-install the Web Application Project V1.0 Release but the problem still persists.

Note: The solution buildscorrectly and the assembly is created in the /bin directory (MyDnnProjects.dll)

My dev environment:VS 2005 VS 2003 Windows 2003 Standard SQL Server 2005 Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition Visual C# 2005 Express Edition .Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0 SDK
