IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )
Using System.Data.OleDb;
I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

Sep 2, 2010I have a form wilh couple of Drop downs and text boxes and a Data Grid View which displays data from Access Table. When I hit add button on the form, I can see the data being added to the Grid View. But when I close the form and open the Access Database File (.mdb), the respective table is empty. The Access Table is not being updated. Second time if I open the form, the Grid View is also empty.I am pasting my code here.

Nov 12, 2010I have a SQL database. I am getting a datatable from SQL. In SQL Query the table is having null values in the output. But when it is coming to the front end, the null values are replaced by empty values.
So in the front end in the datatable i am having empty values in some cells. I am trying to insert this datatable into access. For this i am using following code...

It is inserting the datatable to access database. But it is inserting the empty spaces as present in the datatable. I want to insert NULL into the cells in access datatable where the cells are empty. Where should i add my logic for this.

I am creating a support desk intranet application and I am trying to write a method within a class within a namespace which will form a generic database connection which can be called from any of the aspx pages so that I have the dbconnection logic in one place; you know, going along with the 'DRY' (Don't Repeat Yourself) mantra.
The Namespace:
SUPPORTDESK.SQL.dbconnection.pullData()
Objective of the method:
To provide any aspx code behind file with an SQL Server 2005 Express Connection and if possible return the data from an SQL Query. This is where I need advice do I create the method such that it simply forms the connection and returns a DataSet or that it returns an SQLConnection object? If i've got things back to front and upside down don't worry I'm a beginner with ASP.NET. The Method so far:

Oct 15, 2010I want to be able to access my dataset from other protected methods. So far the only way for me to do this is declare my dataset globally (dataset mydatset = new dataset();) and then within my methods I return the dataset after I'm finished filling it with my SqlDataAdaptor. I don't think this is very efficient. Is there a better way of accessing this. I understand when you give the dataset a table you should be able to access it's value. However the dataset becomes null once another method is called??

Sep 7, 2010Here's a short explanation of my asp.net project.
1) the default page loads, it will read the Windows Login of the user opening the page.
2) I'll check if this login exists in a table stored on the webserver.
In this Access Database, there's a 2nd linked table, pointing to another access table on a network location. Now, I want to read data from this linked table. However, at this moment I receive an error:
"The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\<ip><shared-folder>statistics.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data".
Some extra info:
- The network folder has read and write permissions for everyone
- the user and group permissions on both access files are set to read/modify/administer for the Admin user (on the tables I want to read from)
- IIS authentication on the server is set to "Windows Authentication" (this is needed so I can read the Windows Login from the user). All other authentication modes are disables (like anonymous, ...)
- When the error occurs, no other program or process has access to the statistics.mdb (so, it can't be locked by someone else)
- the web.config files access connection string looks like:
<add name="AccessConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=\<IP><shared-folder>statistics.mdb;User Id=admin; Password=;" />
Like I said before, in this statistics.mdb file, there are 2 tables. One normal table, and another linked table (pointing to a network location)
Searching for solutions, I discovered the following:
- if I don't use linked tables, everything works fine (however, I have to use this linked table)
- even if I connect directly to the table in the network I receive the error. So, I'm pretty sure I don't have sufficient rights to read from this table.
I read that not the Admin user is opening the file, but actually a user called ASP.NET. This user doesn't have the correct rights to do this. However, I'm not sure if this is true.

But can this be done using a single SQL statement? I've googled it and can't find much to help me out.

Jul 13, 2010Getting the message that ObjectDataSource ... count not find a non-generic method ... that has parameters ... The parameter list is fine until I get to the very end and it list the two data fields that are in my DetailsView. Using the ASP Tutorial #17 (Examining the Events Associated with Inserting, Updating, and Deleting) and the Exploring the Data Modification - specifically the one showing the INSERT of the Product Name and UnitPrice. ASPX page is pretty simple and attempting something similar, two fields to insert a new record - update the other fields later.
Full Error Message follows along with ASPX and the AsignaturasBLL.cs. Interesting thing is that when I swap the two fields in the DetailView, then the last two fields in the error message are swapped. In the error message I bolded these two fields.

Feb 2, 2010I can't seem to access a label that is outside the DataList. I wish to add the data in the label into a database, aswell as data that is inside the datalist (this is already working though). My SQL-query with only the specific label looks like this at the moment:

The data is added to the database when pressing a button inside the datalist (using onItemCommand). If I write UserIDLabel.Text the regular way it doesn't work either. The label is in the MasterPage, while the datalist is in a .aspx-page. If it is possible to somehow access the data that is in this label and add it to the database I would be ever grateful. Or is it somehow possible to add data that is in a Session and add it to the database?

The detailsview control has autogenerateinsert = "true". When the insert is successfull, I want to set some variables and and to redirect the page to a different one. I don't know how to access the insert button click event of the detailsview to do it. If there is different solution like using <insertItemTemplate> and using custom linkbuttons.
