For the number of rows i'm using a dataset, wich i fill using the same query as for the datareader. So I'm executing it twice... Is there a way I can avoid that? get the number of rows from the datareader?

Jun 15, 2010im using an access database with less than 50.000 records on a single table, no relations.
ive put the following code inside a two for cycles as per the respective variables (i, j) the connection is opened outside the outer cycle and closed after it, im holding the connection open to save up on open/close time and im using OleDB thinking it would be faster than ODBC. The ds fill operation takes nearly 3 seconds in debug mode, the total process will require almost 4 hours. How is it possible to speed it up?

MVC: First Access After Some Minutes Slow, Then Every Following Request Is Fast?
Jul 30, 2010when I access any page of my ASP.NET MVC website first time, then this first request is slow. It needs about 4-5 seconds to load. But every following request to any page is fast.When I wait some minutes or a hour then every first request is slow again. Every following request is fast.
I think that IIS 7 is compiling the code and keep it in memory. After some time it will delete it from memory so it needs to compile it again.What can I do that every first request is as fast as every following request?
(Without precompiling my source, if possible)

May 25, 2010My web app connects to my database server which is on my lan. It is usually very quick but once in a while the connection is extremely slow and has even causing errors by timing out. The server only has 1 gb of memory so I'm going to upgrade to at least 4 gb.

IIS 6.0 .NET framework 2.0 with latest service pack I gave IIS_WPG write/modify access to the folder where MS-Access database is located and database but at the time of insert an error pop-up. I need to install in the Server or settings in the IIS to recognize my MS-Access db is it some office runtime that I am missing. (BTW I am using OLEDB connection string in my C# )

I can retrieve data off of it with no problem but when I try to insert is when it fails I thought the problem was Access Rights but I do not think is the case.

I have created a query in MS Access "zorder: Rnd([MarinaAccommodation]![ID])" which works fine in MS Access giving me a different order each time.
The problem is that when I try run it on the website the order remains the same, it does not change each time the page is loaded.

Jun 17, 2010I have a situation where I am accessing a database multiple times and I'm wondering if it is necessary.
I have a GridView with a template column with a hyperlink to "Get Results" and on the RowDataBound event I have it check the batch number against the database and see if results exist and then if they don't, hide the link.
So when viewing the page if there is 20 rows in the gridview it is effectively doing 20 queries.
I was wondering if it is a better idea to query the database once with all "batches" and load it into a datatable, then on the RowDataBound event query the datatable. The only issue I see with this is there is currently 40,000 batches and grows daily.

Dec 16, 2010Why does a very simple script which inserts 26,000 records into a mysql database (myisam, no transactions) take 13 seconds in the php implementation, and then 35-50 seconds using mono+mysql connector? I thought asp.net was faster than php? Could the problem be the mono mysql connector is "platform independent", so the performance just stinks? or does asp.net suffer more overhead than php when it comes to executing each query? Aren't there any native linux binaries for mysql connector for mono that may be faster?

When I hit add button on the form, I can see the data being added to the Grid View. But when I close the form and open the Access Database File (.mdb), the respective table is empty.
