Feb 25, 2010I have a single project. and I have two folder in it. In the 1st folder I have a class named Class1 and in the 2nd folder I have a class named Class2. Can anyone tell me how I can access members of Class1 in Class2. I have tried by adding namespace in Class1 and Using that namespace in Class2. But it is giving error. It is easy to access classes or their members from App_Code folder. I don't want to put my classes in app_code folder.

Jul 2, 2010I have a Dynamic Data application to which I have added a class for extending EDM. Everything works great, but now I am trying to set an entity property value equal to a value in session state - and its not recognizing the Session command. I'm trying to do something like this:
audit.action_by = CStr(Session("person_name"))
I think this is because I do not have the class Inheriting Page, but if I do add Inherits Page it breaks other stuff. How can I have the class include the ability to utilize sessions directly without inheriting Page?

Since I don't want my sessions to be removed unless the session has been abandoned either via code or Session Timeout...For eviction, I would think "None" and for expireable, I would think False.I have tested and calling Session.Abandon does remove the object from the cache. I have also tested to see if by extending my session, the session object in cache is also extended. This does seem to work the "correct" way.

I am implementing these custom providers inside a class library project (different from the website project) and need to access the session in them. The idea is to store the role/membership related information in the session after retrieving them for the first time from the database.
When I try to access the Session using System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session
I get this as a null object (Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Why is the session turning out to be null?

Mar 16, 2011I have a custom MembershipProvider that I'm using in an ASP.NET 2.0 application. Inside of the class that extends membership provider, I have a function called AttemptLogin() that sets session variables if the user is valid. Inside that function, are a number of session variable assignments similar to the following:
HttpContext.Current.Session["id"] = "12345";
AttemptLogin() is being called by the Application_BeginRequest function in global.asax. This code works fine when I open it in visual studio, and then run it in the built-in development server by clicking "Start Debugging". However, when I deploy it to our testing server (Windows 2003 Server 64-bit running IIS in 32-bit mode), execution breaks when it reaches the code above, giving me the following message:

Jan 13, 2010I built a base controller class inherits from Controller class to add some custom behavior to all controllers which will inherit from this base class.
My issue is when I try to access HTTPContext and Session objects in my custom base class, they are always null.
Am I doing something wrong or need missing something?
My custom base class definition:
public class ApplicationControllerBase : Controller
controllers classes definition:
public class HomeController : ApplicationControllerBase
using ASP.NET MVC 1, .NET 3.5.
UPDATE:
It seems the issue is I try to access HTTPContext in the constructor while HTTPContext is not ready yet, I tried it in the OnActionExecuted event handler and it works fine.
My question is what is the best place to access Session object in my custom controller class, that will guarantee executing my code with all controllers.

The class is a public one and there is no namespace specifically defined for this class in the file.of my webpages uses this class. It works ok on my local machine. However after I uploaded the page to the web server and then try to display the page through internet, the sever told me the class name can not be found.

Dec 12, 2010I want to be able to maintain certain objects between application restarts.
To do that, I want to write specific cached items out to disk in Global.asax Application_End() function and re-load them back on Application_Start().
I currently have a cache helper class, which uses the following method to return the cached value:
return HttpContext.Current.Cache[key];
Problem: during Application_End(), HttpContext.Current is null since there is no web request (it's an automated cleanup procedure) - therefore, I cannot access .Cache[] to retrieve any of the items to save to disk.
Question: how can I access the cache items during Application_End()?

C# - Store Class Instance (helper Class) In Cache?
Jun 30, 2010I have a class instance which is created by using Activator.CreateInstance() method. That class instance contains helper methods which are frequently used throughout the application. In order to avoid creating the instance multiple times, I'm just thinking about implementing an appropriate caching mechanism. The following consideration should be taken into account:
1) I can't use static class and methods.
2) There are around 6 instances (1 instance per class) per App Domain.

Although it now has the appearance of an ASP.NET Folder.But for some reason my code doesnt recognize this class if its w/in the App_Code folder. CodeBehind Class Not Accessible To Code In App_Code Folder?
Jan 31, 2010I have a PlannerShiftView user control in the root folder of my ASP.NET web site. In my App_Code folder, I have a ShiftViewTemplate class that needs to instantiate a PlannerShiftView (for a TemplateField in a GridView). The problem is, the following code doesn't compile because the PlannerShiftView type is not available in what I deem to be the App_Code 'phantom namespace'.
Please can somebody explain to be what is happening here, as well as what to do. I know I can just move the ShiftViewTemplate out of App_Code, going against convention and without explantion, but that is something of a hollow victory.

But then I need to get the actual page title. I know it's simple to get it in the page's code behind, but could I get it in a separate class like it is on my scenario?
