I want to allow each user to create a webpage on our domain. example: www.site.com/username
I've created a few pages that get content from database and place it in a folder. I want each user to be able to edit their own data and when they hit "submit". the system will then copy those pages to a folder and modify the code so it read from the right database.
I keep getting "virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS" errors. Is there any way around this error? I want the process to be 100% automatic so that I don't need to manually go into the server and configure the IIS myself.
I am new to asp.net programming. While working with windows form(windows application) i have created a window for editing purpose(just like popup window ) which contains three bounded dropdown list a button and a gridview. After making selections from the drop down when we press button the corresponding result should display in a grid.After that when you click on the grid row it will load the corresponding datas in my form. i want to create such control in asp.net . i have to use jquery or ajax. I would like to know the best practice to store it in order to retrieve it in show it on website. What should I store it as: Store the url into the database and store the actual image on the physical server. Store the image itself as a binary into the sql server itself and then convert it to runtime and show on the website. I need to know which way is the best and suitable way to do this task.

I've tried to implement two different solutions that use either and HttpModule or and HttpHandler to do URLRewriting for me. These work great on IIS 7 within my local development environment in Integrated and Classic modes. Currently the production server is running IIS 6.0 on a shared hosting environment. It appears that the request at least hits both the Module and Handler as the URL above redirect to the particular friendly url, but it doesn't redirect and hit hte Module or Handler again. Instead I get a 404 error for the friendly URL.

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005 and SQL Server 2005:I have a unique constraint setup to prevent users from entering duplicate email addresses in my online system.When a user tries to edit an existing email to one that already exists (add a duplicate) it shows the following<ERROR>Cannot insert duplicate key row in ojbect "dbo.someTableName" with unique index.....The statement has been terminated This prevents the user from adding duplicates which is good but I would like to provide a more user friendly exception message and I do not want to show the table and field names to the user.

We have WCF service that we have to expose to third party so then can request with xml and get back xml response.
The wcf service should do the following:
- Accept the request call with xml
- Check xml against the schema
- Parse the xml
- Authenticate the incoming xml by username and password that will be in xml
- Send back the response
If anybody can let me know what kind of design I can use or is there any pattern available that I can take it and then extend it as per my requirement.

View 1 RepliesI have created a user control as part of an asp.net web application. This control works fine. I have then moved the control into a class library and attempted to reference it in my original application. I find that the asp controls created in the ascx for the control (texboxes and buttons) are no longer instantiated i.e. I get a null reference exception in my Page_Load event handler when I try to reference them. The only change to the page in my original application has been to change the register statement to load the control libary dll otherwise this is identical to when the conmtrol was part of the application:

The examples are doing it using Object data source which my lecturers claimed that it is not 3 tier at all. Shouldn't be dragging any data source into deisgn view. Any comprehensive examples for me to take reference from?

View 7 RepliesI have an application which is installed on local pc and is using SQL db. It is a client management system where I want to add capability to register new clients and give them access to my web site which is sharing the same SQL database with local application.
At the moment clients can register on the web site and I have ASP.NET authorisation system set up with aspnetdb_user, aspnetdb_membership and etc tables. But sometimes it happens that I need to register clients on my local application on PC and ideally would like that registration to create online account for the client as well. Then I want to be able to send him user id and password by email and let him know that he has been registered in my database and online account is ready for him as well.
Basically I want to have full synchronization between asp.net membership service and local application through SQL db. As I said both online and local apps are shareing the same SQL database. what would be the best practice to implement it.

I think that web site uses XML XSL I'm going to implement a web application in asp.net which will use data stored in sql database (or xml database or web service) and show these information like other normal web sites but in xml format in nice UI (using xsl?).That Weather website is only a sample to show what i want to do (i will not use any data from that site, my application is different).My requirement is being able to view page source only in XML format.Now I'm clear that xsl is the solution for that, but considering to use this method in asp.net.(use xml/xsl in dynamic asp.net pages) My Question? View 2 RepliesI need to develop an application, which will get records (orders) from one application and process them. The updates to this records (order updates) will be sent back to the source application for end customer reference. I'm planning to achieve this data synchronization at the database level using triggers and stored procedures to insert database between the 2 databases.
But, the issue is I have to deploy this application in 3 different customer sites and I have to change the database names (cannot use the same database name) in each deployment manually. Because of this deployment issue, I was thinking of handling this within the asp.net application where I can store the db name in the database and then build the query within the application, but I dont want to do it as building queries like that doesnt look very professional.
