Basic HTML Concatenation From SQL Select Using C#

Feb 6, 2009, 05:11

i have the following code:

//Product category
SqlCommand comm_productcategory = new SqlCommand("SELECT TOP 1 productcategory_id, productcategory_name FROM tblProductCategory ORDER BY productcategory_name;", conn);
SqlDataReader reader_productcategory = comm_productcategory.ExecuteReader();
while (reader_productcategory.Read())
{
productCategory.Text += "<li><a href=productcategory.aspx?productcategoryid=" + reader_productcategory["productcategory_id"].ToString() + ">" + reader_productcategory["productcategory_name"].ToString() + "</a></li>;
}
reader_productcategory.Close();

It's supposed to write out some navigation list items to my page. However, I get the following compilation error when I try to run it: CS1010: Newline in constant On this line: productCategory.Text += "<li><a href=productcategory.aspx?productcategoryid=" + reader_productcategory["productcategory_id"].ToString() + ">" + reader_productcategory["productcategory_name"].ToString() + "</a></li>;

It must be something to do with the way the string is being concatenated, but I can't figure it out!?

Security :: ValidateRequest, And Basic HTML Failure?

Jun 28, 2010 02:45 PM

Here's the situation. I have an aspx page that is designed to receive a POST request with some XML values, parse the XML, grab the relevant items, and write them to the page. The problem arises when I try to launch the page using the POST request. When I launch using Fiddler, building the request manually and just pasting the XML in the body of the request everything works fine and dandy. When I launch the page from a basic HTML form, however, things don't go so great. The HTML form that I'm using looks like this:

[Code]....

When the page loads I get the error:

A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client Everything I've read so far has told me that the solution is to add ValidateRequest="false" to the page directive in the top of the .aspx file, or in the pages element of the web.config file. But neither of these work. Afterwards, I still get the same error. Any idea what I need to do to make this work?

HTML Select Size Not Being Rendered?

Jul 29 10 at 14:57

Recently we copied an ASP.NET WebForms solution. In this solution we are using some ASP:ListBoxes where the Rows property is set to more than 1.

This renders following HTML..

<select size="8" name="ctl00$MainContainer$lbType" multiple="multiple"
onchange="javascript:setTimeout('__doPostBack('ctl00$MainContainer$lbType','')', 0)" id="ctl00_MainContainer_lbType">
<option value="--">-- - --</option>
<option value="BR00">BR00</option>
<option value="BR01">BR01</option>
<option value="...">...</option>
</select>

Looks fine to me. But the strange thing is that in the copied solution the browser doesn't render what it should be rendering. The size property seems to be ignored. It just gets rendered as if the size was set to one.

This applies to all listboxes in the solution. I compared the masterpages and web.configs and there are no differences. This issue also applies to all browsers. I used IE8 Developer tools to compare the documentmodes and they are the same for both solutions.

Getting Value Of HTML Select Element On Form Post?

Mar 29, 2010 06:01 PM

I have a View that has a select drop-down list and an edit button within a form. What I want to do is have the user select one of the options from the select element, click on the edit button, and get the value of the selected option in the Controller method.

I created my form with <% Html.BeginForm(): %>

and the Controller "Edit" method should be called.

I looked through several online examples, but each one focused on how to set values and the default selected value of the select element, rather than retrieving it from the code in the Controller method. I tried grabbing it from the Request.Form collection like:

string val = Request.Form["myDropDownList"].ToString();
and also:
string val = Request.Form["myDropDownList"];

Obviously I didn't do this correctly, because I get a null reference exception. Does anyone have the solution to this issue?

C# - How To Get Html.DropdownFor() To Select Current Element

Nov 11 10 at 17:21

I must be missing something simple here. This code was working and i can't seem to figure out why it stopped.

First, I generate a selectlist in the controller like this:

// Select List
ViewData["FieldTypesList"] = new SelectList(
genesisRepository.FieldTypes, "ftID", "ftName"
);

The View that uses this select list looks like this:

<%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<Genesis.Domain.Entities.Stream2FieldTypes>" %>
<%@ Import Namespace="Genesis.Domain.Entities" %>
<%: Html.DropDownListFor(
model => model.FieldTypeID,
(SelectList)ViewData["FieldTypesList"]
)%>
<%:Model.FieldTypeID.ToString() %>

However... the HTML that gets generated shows this:

<select id="Stream2FieldTypes_0_" name="Stream2FieldTypes[0]"><option value="1">Text Area</option>
<option value="2">Text Box</option>
<option value="3">Rich Text</option>
<option value="4">Image</option>
<option value="5">DateTime</option>
<option value="6">Decimal</option>
<option value="7">Integer</option>
</select>
3 <!--FYI: current value-->

I am completely missing why the view does not render html that selects 3 (Rich Text).

Mvc 3 Pre-select Html.DropDownListFor Not Working In Nerd Dinner?

Jan 26 at 0:43

Learning about dropdown lists, Im trying to add a RSVP create page for nerddinner as in Scott Gu's blog with a Html.DropDownListFor listing available dinners. I can get the dropdown list populated but I cannot get the dropdown to pre select the value ("Sample Dinner 2") I want. Im using an initilizer to seed a few dinner objects in the db. The database is sql ce 4 using a EF 'code first approach'. Sorry I know this is a v common problem and hate to ask, but honestly have spent quite some time on this but cant get it to work:

ViewModel

public class RSVPViewModel
{
public SelectList DinnersList { get; set; }
public RSVP Rsvp { get; set; }
public string SelectedItem { get; set; }
}
[code]...

So is not preselecting the dropdownlist with the value "Sample Dinner 2" when the page loads. The list displays ok and sets the correct DinnerID when I make a selection and click Submit.Tries this also:

@Html.DropDownListFor(x => x.SelectedItem, Model.DinnersList)

but doesnt set or bind to Rsvp.DinnerID.This preselects from the list but doesnt bind (or set Rsvp.DinnerID)

@Html.DropDownList("DinnersList")

I want to keep it mvc3 so want to implement with strong type using ViewModel approach (no ViewData) and preferably using Html.DropDownListFor (not Html.DropDownList).Viewbag seems unnecessary for this case.Thinking I should be using a selectList of selectListItems I tried this verbose approach :

RSVP rsvp = new RSVP();
string selected = "2";
List<SelectListItem> dinners = new List<SelectListItem>();

foreach (Dinner dinner in dbc.Dinners.ToList())
{
SelectListItem slDinner = new SelectListItem();
slDinner.Value = dinner.DinnerID.ToString();
slDinner.Text = dinner.Title;
slDinner.Selected = (slDinner.Value == selected);
dinners.Add(slDinner);
}
var dinnersList = new SelectList(dinners, "Value", "Text", selected);
var viewModel = new RSVPViewModel { DinnersList = dinnersList, Rsvp = rsvp, SelectedItem = selected };

However still no work. Should I be making use of the ViewModel SelectedItem property in: @Html.DropDownListFor.. somehow? Something like :@Html.DropDownListFor(x => x.SelectedItem, Model.DinnersList)but how to I get a selected value to set Rsvp.DinnerID. I think thats called binding.

DropDownList / HTML Select List Default Selection?

Jul 18 10 at 18:53

If not otherwise specified in the code behind or markup, will a default value of 0 be used for the SelectedIndex in a postback with a DropDownList? If yes, is this part of the HTML standard for selection lists, or is this just the way it is implemented for ASP.NET?

Select Form Elements In JQuery Based Upon An HTML Table?

May 13 10 at 19:48

I am working on some ASP.NET web forms which involves some dynamic generation, and I need to add some onClick helpers on the client side. I have a basic outline of something working, except for one huge problem.

There are multiple HTML tables, each generated by a different ASP.NET web control. Each table can contain overlapping field names, which is causing a problem with my JQuery click event handlers. The click event handler is linking to unintended form fields in addition to the intended form field.

I have provided a simplified sample version of the code below. This code is trying to set the value of textbox box1 when a particular radiobutton is selected in the table with id=thing1. Obviously, the jquery code will be triggered for the form fields in both tables.

The tables are dynamically added to the webpage based upon different conditions. It is possible that no tables will be loaded, only 1 table, or both tables might load. In the future, other tables could be added. Each table comes from a different .net web control.

Other than renaming the form fields to make sure they are unique across all user controls, is there a way to have JQuery act only on the intended form fields? In other words, could the table ID be incorporated into the JQuery code in a manner that does not become a nightmare to maintain later?
