I am having problems with a user control. I want my solution to have a separate project for holding my user controls.The main project can get a reference to this user control project and can import this user control dll into my main project.
View 3 RepliesMy intention is to give the user a flexible user control on a master page that does the following:
When navigating, a child page will pass the URL (with querystring) and PageTitle to the user control. The user control will take those two parameters and insert them as a "breadcrumb" object at first index of a List<breadcrumb> collection
This part works fine through the use of a Repeater with a LinkButton contained in an ItemTemplate. The user sees each of the pages he has been visiting in descending order, the provided benefit is a quick way to re-open records they have recently modified or created.
The part I'm having trouble handling is what happens when the user clicks the LinkButton, which is that the child page adds a new reference to the URL at the beginning of the List<> collection and I cannot seem to control the behavior of removing the LinkButton before it gets re-created. What I've tried doing is:
List<>.RemoveAt(RepeaterCommandEventArgs.Item.ItemIndex);
Repeater1.Controls.Clear();
Repeater1.DataSource = List<>;
Repeater1.DataBind();
While that should work, my CreateBreadCrumb(string url, string title) function gets called by the child page before the UserControl detects the Repeater1_ItemCommand event, so in effect it appears that the wrong ItemIndex is being used for removal.
I'm trying to create a partial .ascx control for login functionality. Is it possible to have it not rely on posting back to the host's controller? How can a situation like this be resolved with as little cupling as possible between the login view/controller and the host controller?

experienced pros on the best way of doing something.First let me give you the broad view of everything.I have a main site (http://www.ffinfo.com/) which is built completely in ASP.Net using C# 4 and has a SQL 2008 backend and then I have an CMS I am custom building to administer the site.At some point I hope to have more people playing the Final Fantasy games and helping me collect data to add to the site so I am using the CMS to both add/modify data in the SQL DB and genereate new pages on the main site as needed.I want to compile the main site so it runs faster as my server has limited resorces and after a reboot or upload of new pages it takes a little bit for the first visit to run.Now here is the problem.
When I use the CMS to make a new page I currently copy over a .asp and .aspx file from a template into the appropreate folder and am good but if I want to compile that page along with any other new pages made I have to scower my FTP for them, download to the local machine,build and publish.This will very quickly become a lot of work,not to mention I can not really take advantage of OOP.
So my question is this, how do I go about doing this better? Have I taken the wrong approce from the start and need to find another road or is the road I am ok I just need to improve my transportation?

View 2 RepliesI've got a web site that has a master page and that master page (mpMaster that has a user control ucControl1) which has a sub user control (ucControl2), this user control has a property which accepts a value. Now, I have a page that uses the master page
and on this page I have another user control (ucPageControl), I need to find a way of setting the value in ucControl2 from ucPageControl. Is this possible at all?

I am using Windown Authentication.
Using Role based (Active directory groups) authorization, I am able to control the access to various web pages. If an unauthorized user reaches a web page, a small popup comes up (as shown in the attached bit map) asking for credentials. If the user clicks on "Cancel" button on the popup, it shows "Access denied" error.
Instead of showing the standard "Access denied" error, I want to redirect to another .aspx page with a more meaningful message.
I have a custom DDL that lives in my Server control library. Currently I add this control to a table by strongly typing the name of the control, the customary way.
Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL newDDL = new Control_Library.Report_NumberDDL();
What I want to be able to do is dynamically create that control by pulling the control name from a table. So I would have the name of the control in my code, in this case "Report_NumberDDL", and I would like to then create the control without having to strongly type it.
Something like this, though I know this doesn't work:
string controlName = "Report_NumberDDL";
Control_Library."controlName" controlNum1 = new Control_Library."controlName"();
Edit:I tried to do this:

object control = Activator.CreateInstance(type);
But on the CreateInstance(type) I get a null value exception. So the Type isn't getting created correctly.

View 1 RepliesI have a gridview control on .aspx page. Situation is, the columns in the gridview control are not databound. I query the database and load the gridview control using the following code.

The gridview control shows about 13 columns from the database. But we want the user to be able to edit only one column. Rest of the 12 columsn should be read only. When the clicks one Edit button button, as usual the Update and Cancel buttons should come up. It is not happening. Only the _Rowediting event is getting trigged. Following is the code from my .aspx page. I don't know anything about template columns and not sure if I have to use that concept in my situation.

View 4 RepliesI am somewhat of a novice at ASP.NET, but have a lot of database experience. I want to build a web query interface to allow users to get data back from a database. The idea would be to choose various fields (I have about 20+ fields and 200,000 records in the database, and use either the checkbox, listpicker, radio, etc. to select the fields they want). Then the person could search by date, or search by greater than/less than statements in a particular field.
For example: the user could select: Temerature as the variable, and then Greater than and then enter a value and hit submit. I'd like the option to be able to include all the other fields from the table as well (maybe with a check box or something).
i have:
- Default.aspx;
- user1.ascx: 1st user control containing repeater;
- user2.ascx: 2nd user control containing a detail view of row.
In page.aspx i dinamically load the repeater inside a user1.ascx.
after i want to dinamically load the 2nd user control also in default.aspx by a button inside a user1.ascx.
How i can do this? I can't load user2.ascx inside user1.ascx but only in aspx page.

I have an asp.net pagel called UserApproval.aspx. On that page is a custom control ascx. So the order of events is that UserApproval's Page_Load is called, then the ascx's Page_Load is called. The ascx page might discover a problem and can't render what it needs to render (if the user isn't authorized). It has no problem hiding some of the web controls on it, but I would also like to hide some of the web controls on the parent/UserApproval page. Am I able to do this?
For example, the parent page displays instructions about clicking a button. But the buttons are built by the custom control if the user is authorized to see the buttons. If he can't, can I change or hide the parent's instructions?
I have a form that I need in various parts of my website.
User's enter their address, and submit a form that saves the address.
I want to wrap this up so I can re-use it since I need this exact same functionaility in a few places.
I am thinking to do this:
create a partial view with the form, but have the action location url passed in as a parameter. create a seperate class/method that will handle the server side validation (UI has its own validation using jquery already)saving/editing is already handled in the db layer.
