BulletedList - Get Selected Item (Javascript)?
Nov 2, 2010
I have a BulletedList in ASP.NET
<asp:BulletedList ID="lstItems" OnClick="Item_OnClick" DisplayMode="LinkButton" runat="server" />
On the server I handle the list item's link button click event.
When this occurs I want to apply a CSS class to the selected item on the client-side to show that it is the selected item.
Since ListItem does not support any sort of CSS properties directly, but does support Selected, I assume the best way to do this would be to get the selected item from control on the page load and apply the styling then.
Does anyone know how to access this property in JavaScript or any other options to achieve this affect?

The following code always comes out with the error:
"The server tag 'asp:BulletedList' is is ambiguous. Please modify the associated registration that is causing ambiguity and pick a new tag prefix".
[Code]...
Also, I'm using ASP 4.0, and the latest release of the AJAX toolkit...

is there an easy way to scroll an ASP.Net ListBox automatically to the first selected Item? The ListBox has SelectioMode="Multiple".
<asp:ListBox ID="LbSymptomCodesEdit" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="VG_SAVE" Height="100%" Width="100%" runat="server" SelectionMode="Multiple"></asp:ListBox>
The ListBox is in the EditItemTemplate of a FormView inside of an UpdatePanel. jQuery is possible but it would be great if there would be an asp.net serverside(or Ajax) way to achieve this because i don't want to use more client scripts than really needed(and this is only a nice to have).

I simply am trying to add a color to the select item background within the select elm after a user makes a selection from the select elm. The result right now is that in firefox, the colors will change, but only during selection ... after the selection has been made the background for the individual selection is still white.
This code works fine in IE but so far my efforts have been thuarted in FireFox.
[code]....
P.s I made an equivalent javascript method and made some attempts at it, but the result is still the same. The background color of the item is changed ... but only is visible when making a selection, NOT after the selection is made.
.Compliant { background-color : #8AC9FF; }
.OtherThanSerious { background-color: #C2FF87; }
.Serious { background-color: #FFBC43; }
.Critical { background-color: #FF6743; }

I am developing an ASP.NET web application that incorporates google maps. I have an ASP.NET listbox on my page which contains a list of items. When the user selects one of the items, I'd like to show this item on the map. The main complication lies in the fact that google maps uses javascript to control it and the listbox is a server control.
I can think of two ways to do this. The first would involve the listbox calling a javascript function when the user selects a new item. I can then write this function to perform the necessary map operations. Unfortunately, the OnSelectedIndexChanged property of the listbox doesn't seem to support javascript functions.
The second involves wrapping an UpdatePanel around the listbox and getting the listbox to perform a postback. In the SelectedIndexChanged event in VB/C#, I would the need to somehow make a call to a javascript function which would then update the map.

n a form I have multiple group of controls which are grouped using validation group property. I want to assign validation group to asp.Button dynamically on client side using javascript on the base of item selected in drop down list.
Here is JavaScript which I am using, but it is not working. It shows validation group undefined but actually a default group is defined.
<script type="text/JavaScript">
function NextClicked() {
var _ddlStatus = document.getElementById("<%=ddl.ClientID%>");
var _selectedIndex = _ddlStatus.selectedIndex;
var _btn = document.getElementById("<%=btnNext.ClientID%>");
alert(_btn.ValidationGroup); // here in messge it shows undefiend, yet I have defiend a group in button as default.
if (_selectedIndex == 1) {
_btn.ValidationGroup = "G1";
}
if (_selectedIndex == 2) {
_btn.ValidationGroup = "G2";
}
}

I have a list with 2 sorts of items. Items that have actual values (1,2,3,4 etc) and items that are like group headings so all their values are set to 0. If someone decides to select a group heading - which has a value of 0, is it possible to redirect them to my 'Select an item' item which has a value of ""?
If worse comes to worse, I can just reconstruct the entire list, although if possible I'd like to avoid it.

I have a project that queries a set of times from a database and uses these entries to populate a dropdownlist. Once the page is loaded, the user can select one of the items in the DropDownList. When the "Save" button is clicked, the Selected item value is returned to the [HttpPost] version of the controller action. This item is then stored into session. If the system returns to the page containing the dropdown, I want the saved Value to be selected in the DropDownList. What actually happens is that the DropDownList is always set to be the first item in the list.
Database Table: This data has been imported using Link to SQL

I am trying to get a drop down and a form view to work together. I've never used form views before. I also am using the entity framework to do everything. This is also my first time with it.
I want to be able to have a drop down, that is populate from the same data source as the form view. So far that works fine.
I then want to be able to change the drop down item, and it change the form view item that is displayed. I cannot figure out how to make this work.

How to get the selected item from the listbox in the selected index changed event. I tried: Label1.Text = ListBox1.SelectedItem.Text; It is giving me object set to null reference.
foreach (ListItem item in ListBox1.Items)
{
if (item.Selected)
{
//lblResults.Text += item.Text + "
";
Label1.Text = item.Text;
}
}
No use, no value coming in to label.

I have a drop down list control populated with items and some code to take the currently selected item value. The problem is I only get the value of the first item in the list regardless of what item is actually selected. Here is my code to populate the drop down:
protected void displayCreateCategories()
{
StoreDataContext db = new StoreDataContext();
var a = from c in db.Categories
orderby c.Name
select new{catName= c.Name,
catId=c.CategoryID};
ddlCategory.DataSource = a;
ddlCategory.DataTextField = "catName";
ddlCategory.DataValueField = "catId";
ddlCategory.DataBind();
}
To get the value of the currently selected item which in my case is always of type integer I do label1.text=Convert.toInt32(ddlCategory.SelectedValue); I get the selected value, but it is always for the 1st item in the list. I'm pulling my hair out over this.

I've different buttons like this
<asp:Button ID="button1" runat="server" Text="single" title="single" EnableViewState="false" />
When this button is clicked I want that the text in a list like this changes
<asp:BulletedList ID="list1" runat="server" EnableViewState="false">
<asp:ListItem>Item1</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>Item2</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>Item3</asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem>Item4</asp:ListItem>
</asp:BulletedList>
How in C# can I select the first, the second or the third element of the list?
protected button_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
list1. ...;
}

I'm trying to use a BulletedList to output some links. When the list renders, all the link tags are encoded, so they are displayed to the user instead of being rendered as links.
Is there a way to make the BulletedList not do this? I'm doing a foreach over a custom object collection where each object has a string representing a link as a property. I just want to build a list of links and I thought a BulletedList was a good way to do it. Is there a better way or a way that doesn't encode the output?

let me say i am an amateur in c# and asp.net so i would like to say sorry in advance if i am asking something obvious for the rest of you. :) I have this code that i use to populate a BulletedList in my page with the current roles in the site + some extra information.o far, since all these are text related, no problem.Now i would like to have a LinkButton control at the end of the role string which if pressed it will delete the role (and repopulate the list) (like the functionality that the admin tool in visual studio has)My question(s) is: Is there a way to do that in a bulleted list or should i use another control (like a gridview, although my experience with this is limited)
private void BindRolesToList()
{
string[] roles = Roles.GetAllRoles();
[code]...

I've got the following DropDownList control:
<asp:DropDownList ID="SubjectFilter" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" onselectedindexchanged="SubjectFilter_SelectedIndexChanged"></asp:DropDownList>
SubjectFilter data:
BookStore b = new BookStore();
b.LoadFromXML(Server.MapPath("list.xml"));
SubjectFilter.DataSource = b.BooksList.Select(x => x.Subject).Distinct().ToArray();
SubjectFilter.DataBind();
SubjectFilter.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("הכל", "Default"));
Everything loads just fine. However in the SubjectFilter_SelectedIndexChanged method, SubjectFilter.SelectedValue is always Default, even though I'm selecting different options.
