I have a developed a new website for online document management. I have setup everything on the local network and the site is available on localhost. What I want to do is to make it available on internet. Its my first web project and configuring IIS and resolving database problems after publishing was real headache for me apart from development work (thats another long story). But i have made it up to here (with the help of a lot of people in this forum) and now there is one more step.
How to make a web server live?
I am using asp .net 3.5. The server is in my home (windows xp, IIS 6, microsoft sql server 2005, 10MB bandwidth for internet connection).
I dont want to buy a domain because the website is not commercial. Its just me and my friend who will be using the website and we dont mind putting in ip address. Also, do I have to get a static ip from my ISP?
I have never put a website online before so I want to know a few things.
I understand that you must buy a domain name like 'www.example.co.uk' to get to your site.
1) If I bought a domain name from www.123-reg.co.uk and used their hosting package, how would I get it online. I have already completed my website. Can I still put it on?
2) On their website, it says that you need to buy databases (I think) and add them to the hosting package? I have already got databases in use on my website. What does this mean?
3) Could you in brief sum up the steps of outting a website online.
I have all my tables and queries in online DB ie., i have created all my tables and queries in online using third party site [URL] Now i want to make connect my application (which is in my system) with that database
I want to create a Online Exam site in ASP.NET .In that i want to display Test based on the Date and time and the user can take the test at the time set my the Teacher.
For Example:
Teacher want to take C Test for the Mid Semester Test and the test is schedule on 1 May 2010,then the test should appear on the test page on the 1st may only and the user should be able to take the test on the set time.
The problem is that if i use System time then user can change the system time and can take the test schedule in future.
So i want to know how can implement this thing.I have given many online test but dont know how they work out the time and date logic.
I am developing a simple online DBMS to browse my database online.... the main concern for me is to clear everything from the PC when the user disconnect so no body can go and click (Back) on the browser and see the pages if the user forgot to close it.. what I have done so far is :
[Code]....
I am sure this is not enough.. am I right? so what else I should include there?
I need to send some parameters to an external website using the <asp:HiddenField /> controls and also at the same time, submit data to a sql server database. The part for submitting the data to the database is working, but I need to try to get the parameters from the hiddenfields to also be passed through. I thought all I had to do is create the hidden fields and in the code behind, set the values from the textboxes that the user would fill out.
My source code is below:
[code]...
What am I missing? The hidden fields are losing their value before posting to the external website. I've looked everywhere to see why this won't work.
I have created a database and a website using C# and ASP.NET. I am deploying the website from IIS7.0 and created the connection string from the connectionstring tool in the IIS Features View. But I get any data ( access my database) when i run the website from the IIS, it works well when i debug from the Visual Studio.
On my local machine I have created a database driven website. All is working well on my local machine.
Now I want to upload it to my Arvixe Hosting. How do I do that from Visual Studio 2010 Keeping in mind I have a Database too ?
Do I need to manually create a Database on the Server ? Do I then create all the tables Manually ? Do I then populate the tables manually ? Or is it a 1 button click ?
I have just developed a website with VS 2008, ASP.NET 3.5. It contains a long range of pages and one contact page. The contact page is connected to a SQLExpress database, where details about all the visitors' requests are stored. The website works fine at the development environment, but when I deploy it to the internet host, the Contact page will not open any longer, due to all sorts of problems with the database. I have the database files located in the App_Data folder under the main directory for the website.
I have tried with all kinds of connection strings, setups, etc. - to no avail. I have also tried using the ISP's tool for creating a new database with the intention of copying the original database to it. But when I use the Publishing Wizard and generate a SQL script, then the Web Administration Tool for the remote database won't run the script. Now my question is, plainly: Is there any step-by-step procedure I can use, if I want a data-enabled website. It seems incredible that it has to be so frustratingly difficult. Basically, what I need, is:
* A database, located in the App_Data folder, to store all information received via the Contact.aspx page. * All visitors of the site should be able to post messages on the Contact.aspx page. * I have got the information from the ISP that I can connect to MSSQL via the server "host55.nethotel.ccSQLEXPRESS".
If a general procedure can be advised, and some directions about how exactly the database should be set up with authentication, rights, etc., for such a - supposedly ordinary - system, then I will be grateful for any information - or somebody who could point me in the right direction of a solution.
I've been reading through the fb developer api documentation and I'm trying to find out what would be the easiest way to post information on a website to the website's own facebook page. for instance - the assumed workflow is like this:
an admin user adds new content to the company website - and once submitted that content should automatically appear as a link on the company's facebook page.
Do I use the API, facebook Connect, a facebook Share button etc. Looking for some recommendations based on my assumed workflow. Project will be coded in c# (although I'm really looking for recommendations of which tool to use from someone's experiences with the api)
