But with the same procedure i can create object in WPF applications. What is problem with asp.net ?

May 4, 2010I just switched to VS 2010, and upgraded a previous project. I'm getting the following error on a page in design mode for 2 controls:Error Creating Control - ObjectName Object reference not set to an instance of an object.One of them is a simple label, and the other is a ajax update panel. Other pages look fine. When I build and test the app, the page renders fine in the browser and functions fine - the label functions as expected and the content in the update panel works as expected.why I'm getting this error? I tried some of the google results to no avail.

Visual Studio :: Can The Value Of An Object Be Changed In Break Mode With The IDE
Apr 22, 2010I was debugging and noticed the following in VS 2008. I had a breakpoint set to see what the values were for the objects used with my parameters in my DAL. I hovered over the object in question and the little window came up with the name of the object(with the blue brick to the left of it), a vertical line, and the objects value to the right of it. This is what I expected to happen.
What I didn't expect is the that I was able to change the value of the object in the little window. I then tried to continue the execution with the new value that I inserted but wasn't able to get the new value to remain. I suspect maybe I didn't do something right.
Is there a way to get the new inserted value(in the little window in break mode) to be used? It seems like there is or I shouldn't have been able to change it..

Mar 31, 2010I'm not sure if I'm asking this correctly, but I'm having a problem with a web service. The company hosting a web service wants to see what I'm submitting to the API. Is there something in the debugger I can use to "print" or somehow get the request object and all of it's properties with values in Visual Studio? I'm guessing there's some way to get the XML request?

Visual Studio :: Serializing Object Direct From Debug Window
Jan 11, 2010Is it possible to serialize object direct from Visual Studio .NET Debug window. I have a very complex object structure which contains multiple sub objects along with List item etc. I mean the Hierarchy is complex. And I need to analyze the object graph closely for that I need an offline view (may be in the from of XML/ Serialization). I can not do that from VS.
(One can reccomend me to use XMLSeriliazation in my code to generate but please consider that may not be alwways possible because of
1. with default .NET Serialization class a complex object which has manu sub objcts with Collection. is not get serialized properly. So need custom serialization & deserilazation code for that, does not come witf Microsoft Librarry.)
2. I am using it somewhere (Silverlift app) where such operation may be not possible.
3. I do not want to spent time creating or evaluating any ones custom serilaization code/tool

Oct 12, 2010I'm working on a site where we want to include a pie chart on a page. Right now I'm working on implementing that through Reporting Services (RDLC file) with an object data source.The SelectMethod of my object data source is a method that returns a list of business objects; lets say a List<Alpha> and Alpha has a sub object Beta with a Name property. In my report definition I have set the Category groups to be: =Fields!Beta.Value.Name this means that Alpha.Beta.Name are my pie slices. I got the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. The Group expression for the rouping 'chart1_CategoryGroup1' contains an error: Object variable or With block variable not set.I was able to confirm this is because Beta is nullable and was able to fix the issue by updating the object Alpha to return a new Beta() if the Beta property is null. This solution is not ideal though because there are other places in my code where I need Beta to be null if it doesn't have a value yet.Is there a way to update the report definition to accept a null property as valid? Ideally I would like to specify the value as "Not Set" if Beta is null.

Nov 15, 2010I have an ObjectDataSource in Visual Studio 2008. I have a DataSet defined with a TableAdapter. However, when I go to select the Table Adapter to use in the ObjectDataSource, nothing shows up. I double checked that the DataSet is in fact in the App_Code folder. I do not know what else to try. Aug 30, 2010I have a folder with a web site I'm developing which is connected to a database.Every time I move the folder to a different computer it's a pain when I have to move the database and change the connection string.
I've thought to use for the first time a database in the app_data folder and move all the database inside it.
Nevertheless, when I try to recreate all the tables in the new database for the first time with the query "create table ..." I get and error saying that "SQL CREATE TABLE" is not supported. Is there a way to manage this situation?

Mar 9, 2011 I need to do in order for me to have a *.dll file created but, what I want is just the *.dll file, I don't want to have the "*.refresh" and the "*.pdb" files, is this even possible? Or I forcely need to have more than one file when I'm generating dll files?
What I usually do when my dll is ready to be compile is to run the "Build Application" option inside Visual Studio then, I'll go to the app's folder and access "Bin/Released" but whenever I add the new "*.dll" in another project I ger three files instead of one (previously mentioned).

Mar 10, 2010I am using visual studio 2008 professional. I created a unit test project for my current website (project). This unit testing project is mainly testing code in App-Code folder. In order to be able to access classes from App_Class I need to add App_Code.dll reference to my unit testing project. Right now, I am doing like: publish website, which produce App_Code.dll. Then I added it to my unit testing project. This is very time consuming process: if I make any changes on under test class, I need to publish website to get App_Code.dll. It takes at lest 4 minutes to publish and get App-code.dll. If I have add the new App-code to my unit testing project, it takes about 1 to 2 minites. Is there an easier way toget App_Code.dll?
I have tried use Accessor that MS Test autogenerated, which deos not need App_Code.dll, however, I cannot get an object instantiated. So that is why I add App_Code.dll to my test project.
