Custom Server Control Not Retaining Values After Post Back?
Apr 4, 2011
I have a custom server control (composite control having dynamically created dropdown boxes and textboxes). I have enabled AJAX in order to avoid page reload. The server control is used inside the ASP.NET webcontrol having few buttons which controls the visibility of the server control. Now I enter values in the dropdown box and texboxes and click on any other button. After this postback the last entered values are gone! The control is not remembering the values. How can I retain the values after post back?

I need to process surveys. I have modelled them in SQLServer, just need to generate the forms to input it.I have nested SqlDataSource/DataLists. The outer gets the questions and the inner gets the various options as a plain HTML radio buttons. I can't use ASP.NET radio buttons because of a bug with them inside itemtemplates not mutually exclusive http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316495Anyway, so now I need to know the which radio buttons were selected so I can insert the values in the database. What is the best way of doing it?

I have a parent control that has an instance of a HiddenField child control. I am using CreateChildControls() to add it. Everything works client side including the values being added to the field. However, on postback, the reference to the field is null
here is the code
[code]....
I have tried simply relying on the ViewState ... then also attempted using FindControl(). Neither works, it comes up as a null reference ... any input on what is going here?

Being new to ASP.NET I have run into trouble building my own Whack-a-mole program. I think my problem comes from using Buttons, which by themselves send post backs to the server, making the software unusable. The looks are in place, making new buttons show up in the grid, in different places by random. However, when a button is pushed - the score doesn't change (which I feel is strange).
Not so strange is that the Button doesn't work since it sends post back to the server - reloading the UpdatePanel. I think I should use a different controller like the CheckBox and style it hard using CSS (which isn't a problem). Is this the correct way to go, or should I make use of JavaScript AJAX instead?
Note to self: This technique shouldn't be used in a public application since it put too much unwanted pressure on the web server.

I'm creating a custom ASP.Net GridView and I want to be able to alter the __EVENTARGUMENT value but I can't figure out how to capture the returned value on the server side.
I'm creating the ability to have a collapsible representation, so the first level is the standard GridView and I will insert additional rows via JavaScript if they expand the first level row.
My problem is how to create a link on the selecond level rows that posts back with custom data.

How would I add a (dropdown) list of available values for a custom server control property?
(Just like 'Visible' property of most controls has valid values of 'True/False' and nothing else can be entered or selected)

I need to make a dropdownlist webusercontrol that shows a list of years. The control needs to be flexible enough so that I can tell it show X number of years before and after this year. So if I said show 2 years before after this year the dropdownlist would show 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012. In the past I've stored the "X years" for later use by exposing a property and then storing the value in a hidden field. EG:
[Code]....
I want to store the "X years" values that I send to the control the first time - so not a value that I send in a postback. Is there a better way than using a hidden field?

I have a very simple user control with 5 radio buttons on it, and 3 properties (ID, RatingSetID, and Rating). On the initial load of the page they are on, the code acquires data and places the data into the 3 properties. However, when the submit button is clicked the page reloads and the 3 properties get reset to 0, they are in the !IsPostBack as well.

I have a /Register [GET] Action in the controller that pre-poluates a view-model with a string and an integer and returns: return View(myModel);I can see the string being populated in the textarea and the id being populated in a hidden input. Yet when the form gets POSTed, the string value is null and the int value is 0. I verified that both values are posted to the server but the model received in the POST action is missing those values.

I have a post-only action that has a different route. In my form, I need to post to it, but also keep the querystring values I currently have.
Initial response: /my/first/path/?val1=hello
Needs to post to: /my/other/path/?val1=hello
It seems when I specify a route, it of course only returns the route and doesn't append the querystring values of my original page (for obvious reasons). Is it possible to cleanly append querystring values to my the action attribute of the form tag?

I need a way to create unique values for a property in my custom server control..
In this case I will have the poroperty called "Name" and I neeed the value of Name to be unique for each "instance" of the control...
So for instance if I have a page with more then one instance of the control, I dont want the value of the Name property for these instances to be allowed to be the same..
...to put it kind of simple, if I dont remember this incorrect, I want it to be sort of like the ID property..but with another name then ID.

I've created loads of user controls, but this is my first time dealing with extending a server control. The problem I'm getting is that the base control's data is not being persisted across postbacks in a Master/Content page.I'm actually trying to get this working using a Telerik control (for my sins), but the same issue happens with a standard Web TextBox control. Code:
[Code]....
Now, I've copied the way I handle the control state as I do it with user controls (ControlState), and it isn't working. Can someone point me in the right direction please? All the examples I find refer to creating user controls, not extending existing controls. Specifically why nothing is being persisted on post back.

I have a page where users need to enter a lot of information. Upon submitting, it will be redirected to a confirmation page. I need to provide a "back" button here to allow users to return to previous page and change the values on the form. How this could be done? The values on the form need to be retained.

In my aspx, I have:

How can I secure the control from being destroyed in the postback?

I'm working with asp.net 3.5 c#
I've seen a good few questions like this around but havnt actually come across any articles with the answer (maybe just been unlucky with my research!).
Basically I'm looking to have say 3 links (or buttons) on a page, which in turn will dynamically load a specific user control into an update panel with AJAX.
Then I would like the usercontrol loaded to be capable of handling postback within the update panel (basically no page refreshes) to do its processing and return output.
Does anyone have any pointers to articles/blogs covering this?
I've seen many but non covered handling postbacks from the user control or handling the postbacks within the update panel.
