DataSource Controls :: Can Not Connect To Local Database?

I had a database on a development server of which I am not the owner. The connection string was:
Dim MM_cnnTraining_STRING
MM_cnnTraining_STRING = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=xxx;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Initial Catalog=Training;Data Source=xxx"
I copied this database to my local machine, In services MSSQL is set to logon with my computer username and password, I have no idea if this affects anything.Also the local database which I can view in MSSQL Server Management Studio, I can connect by Windows Authentication only. The database copied there seems to have maintained the same permissions.Im completely confused. I finally was able to copy to my local machine but now can not connect. I am using dreamweaver, but using the connection string above.
I have a website used by clients for reporting purposes and would like to give clients the option of my website reading their local database directly (instead of them providing data in a file format).In most instances their database would be SQL Express setup on their localhost.
How can I connect to a clients local SQL server via my website, using asp.net / javascript etc? If the client provides their connection string properties, localhost would just refer to my server's localhost...
Consider the following :Most people connect to the internet via an ISP. THeir database will run on their localhost and will not have a public address as such.Ideally, the client must supply some connectionstring (database name, login etc.) and my server must connect.VPN's wont work for this - I must connect to them (in a programmatic way) and pull data, not the other way around.
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to transfer records from SQL central database (who has a public IP address) into SQL local database (who doesn't have a public IP)?
or if it's not possible can I use a centralized website instead to pass some data into the local website? (but i'm not sure if it will have some security concerns)..
I am unable to connect to my local instance of SQL Server 2008 Express using SQL Server Management Studio.I believe the problem is related to a change I made to the connection protocols. Before the error occurred, I had Shared Memory enabled and Named Pipes and TCP/IP disabled. I then enabled both Named Pipes and TCP/IP, and this is when I started experiencing the problem.
I have now set Named Pipes and TCP/IP back to disabled. When I try to connect to the server with SSMS (with either my SQL server sysadmin login or with windows authentication), I get the following error message:
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)"
My first question here is: why is it returning a Named Pipes error? Why isn't it using Shared Memory? It seems like it is not listening on Shared Memory for some reason?When I set Named Pipes to enabled and try to connect, I get the same error message.My windows account is does not have administrator priviliges on my computer.

What am I doing wrong here? I really can't figure this out. There was a time when, instead of that exception handling message appearing, a yellow box that states something between the lines of 'offline' and 'check your root folder for *something*' or something like that.
I've created a SQL Server Express database to use with a program I'm working on in Visual Web Developer 2008. The connection works fine according to the Add connection-wizard in VWD. However there's a problem when I try to select data from the database and present the data in a gridview. The error message says that the gridview isn't connected to the database. The gridviews DataSource ID (source-mode) is the same as the name of the database. In design-mode, when I try try configure the datasource I get to a point where I have to configure the select statement, but I just want the connection to work in a way that let's me write the sql-statements in the aspx.cs-file.
I'd like to connect to a database on a different domain. I've done some search and people say to add a connectin using an enterprise manager? Where can I find sql enterprise manager? On msn website, they only show things about sql enterprise manager for sql 2000. Is this a tool only included in sql 2000?
I am wriyng an ASP website for my use on my local PC.
I have setup IIS and eveything works OK apart from accessing my SQL database. As I'm new to this I did not realise that you need to change the connnection string to reflect the place where the DB will be.
Having tried various options like http://localhost/ & db name, without succes I'm looking for some help.

I created a DSN entry and have tried various permutations of of the following:
Connection.Open "DSN=robinvi_mysql_dsn;"
including the driver, server (localhost) username and pwd strings but I still get: [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)
Also, what should the DSN entry contain? Currently it is: Server localhost (the default) Database robinvi_test Description Whatever... UID robin_michael PWD *** Port 3306 (the default) Option 16 (the default)
i have downloaded the Visual basic web developer 2008 from www.microsoft.com/downloads. microsoft web platform installer from this site and downloaded SQL management studio and installed all the things .Now when i am trying to connect to Database it is showing this
My hosting company provider MS SQL Express as part of my hosting package, they have provided me with both the name and IP address of the server running MS SQL Express.
I have created a database on this server via management studio and when I create a connection string like this (connectionString="Data Source=ServerName/IP;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=xxx;Password=xxx") my application works fine.
But if I create a local database file and try to attach this with a connection string like this (connectionString="Data SourceServerName/IP; AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance = True ; Trusted_Connection=Yes) my application doesn't work.
Therefore my questions are:-
Is there something wrong with my connection string? Can you use a local database file within a production environment?
If i want to make any changes in db structure or need to modify any data values, i have to login remotely to my server and has to open sql server management studio do db change or value editing stuffs. Its really getting iritating when the remote machine looks slow.
I just want to know how to configure the db hostname like dbname.domainname.com or mssql.domainname.com in server, so that we can open the server db in local using sql server management studio.

I started a new Sql Server 2008 with mixed authentication Windows and SQL SERVER AUTh... I created a new login account and use it to directly connect in SQL server managment studio BUT... when i create in VS2008 the connectionstring... everytime i try to open the DB connection i take an exception to the login... some screenshots show all the process ;)

I get this exception: Cannot open database "tvmaismais" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'admintvmaismais'. What am I missing? What do i need to do, to get this login to work?
I'm using an ODBC connection to connect a SQL 2005 database to my ASP.NET app in Visual Web Developer Express. I'm finding that the expected functionality that tutorials review does not work for ODBC connected databases the same way as it does for SQL databases created in the Web Developer. For example, I can't use stored procedures because the option to create one is disabled in the Web Developer, and if I create the stored procedure in SQL Server Management Studio Express, it doesn't show up in Web Developer because Web Developer only finds the system stored procedures, not the user-defined ones. I've seen other cases as well where database management options in Web Developer don't work with ODBC databases.
Am I missing something in my setup, or is there an inherent limitation with ODBC connected databases? Or, is this a limitation with using the Express versions of these development tools?
I have created web pages using VS Web Developer that use a local Developer Edition of SQL server database on my PC with LINQ to SQL. When I deploy my website to a remote web host SQL server, I need for my web pages to be able to use the remote database instead of the local database. So, how do I get the Server Explorer to connect with a remote SQL Server database?
I want to copy a database on a development server to my local server. I am not the server administrator but I have rights to the database. Soon after the wizard Executes the SQL Server Agent Job it fails and the error message says:
The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details.
Where do I find this log? Also what could be the problem?
for my website, i am trying to connect to the online DB from my local PC.when i put the following connectionstring:Data Source=88.8.88.88; Initial Catalog=dbname;user id=dbuser; password=dbpass; Min Pool size=50;Packet Size=32767;Connect Timeout = 200;pooling='true' 88.8.88.88 is the server ip, the databse over the server is sqlexpress 2008. the connection string is working with no issues over the server.i got the following error:A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I'm new to ASP and was hoping to get some hands-on experience of web development, but have been having trouble getting started.
I followed the instructions in the [URL] setup video, and downloaded and ran the plaform installer. I noticed that the "Web Platform" section of the installer was didn't have the "Web Server" section at the top, as shown on the instruction video [URL] but it otherwise seemed to install ok.
When I tried to follow the tutorial videos on [URL] using MS Visual Web Developer 2010, I am unable to debug the application. The web page it loads just says: "The webpage "localhost:xxxxx" cannot be found" (where xxxxx is the five digit random port number).
I've tried uninstalling Visual Web Developer, and the various Microsoft .NET and SQL Server using the Vista uninstall functionality of the control panel (as bet as I could -I'm not sure if there was something I missed), and then re-installing, but I still get the same problem.
I've tried to find a solution on some developer forums, and I noticed there are posts relating to webdev.webserver.exe relating to the error message I've been getting. However I haven't been able to find any info on this for VS 2010.
I've checked, and I don't have webdev.webserver.exe in C:Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedDevServer or in C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFrameworkV2.0.50727, although I do have WebDev.WebServer20 and WebDev.WebServer40. inC:Program FilesCommon Filesmicrosoft sharedDevServer 10 (I'm not sure if one of these is the equivalent files for VS2010.)
I've also made Internet Explorer my default web browser, since some of the forum posts mention this. My firewall is on, but I don't get any error messages relating to the firewall when I run the app. However, I wasn't sure whether there was a particular program I should add to my "allowed" list before running.

now i want to make it run with mysql.....i converted all my data base...and created the same users (same names)
anc copied all to my sql .
the question is how do i connect to mysql wit c# ......
