DataSource Controls :: Change Data Capture In SQL Server 2008

May 29, 2010

I was reading about "Change Data Capture" functionality in SQL Server 2008. It sounds awesome. My implementation of it would be in a website environment where ASP.NET pages use SQLDatasources to do inserts, updates and deletes. When enabling "Change Data Capture" can you store additional information supplied from the website like a UserID, SessionID, UserRole etc so you can identify who did the insert, update or delete? SQL Server :: Change Data Capture Records The Changes Like Insert, Update, And Delete To A Table?

Oct 26, 2010

CDC or Change data capture is a new feature in SQL Server 2008, which is an ability to record changes to table data into another table without writing triggers or some other mechanism, Change data capture records the changes like insert, update, and delete to a table in SQL server.I have sql 2005 and I have created triggers and tables CDC to capture the data. everything functions good and the data is being updated in the _CDC tables. all i need to do now is to generate the updated data as a report (excel/html)- what should I do ......?i need to show only the updated columns when user selects the date periods ( Range between dates ) and the person name - i need to display any updated info about that person during that period. So this updated columns about this person should be displayed in excel formatted column wise.

DataSource Controls :: Capture The SQL Server Error And Pass It To UI Via Web Service?

Jul 12, 2010

In one of our sprocs, we have a validation and it returns an error as: RAISERROR('this is the error message', 18, 1) When I call it in the business logic layer, how do I obtain this error message and pass it through the web service?

[Code]....

As you can see, it supposes to return a Users type, but how would I capture that error message in sproc and pass it all the way to UI?

Forms Data Controls :: How To Capture A DropDownList Selected Index Change Event

Sep 15, 2010

I have a gridview that receives data based on selection from a primary dropdownlist object. Works.

Within the gridview, there is a dropdownlist whose selected index is based on the query from the primary dropdownlist. Works.

Problem.

How do I force the used to change whatever value that the dropdownlist contains after they make their initial selection from the primary dropdownlist; except the default value of "make a selection".

Gridview, contains a checkbox which drives whether a selected row is inserted into the data base. The databind in done using an ObjectDataSource on the presentation page, not in the code behind.

DataSource Controls :: Data Modeling Support From SQL Server 2008

Feb 21, 2010

It is feasible to Design tables or write SQL to create tables within SQL Server 2008. There are commercial tools such as ERwin ,which provides a graphical interface to create tables, implement relationships, normalise. It is an excellent feature to generate SQL script and generate databases with tables by targetting SQL Server.

I like to know what is the support with in SQL Server 2008 to achieve the same as
ERwin.

Please let me know any free tools that can be used as Add-On to SQL Server 2008 to achieve the same.

Security :: Capture The Value Of The Username And Insert In A SQL Server 2008 Database Table

Jun 30, 2010

I am using ASP.Net 4.0/Visual Studio 2010. However, I think it would be the same if it was ASP.Net/VB.Net 3.5. I am inserting three form filed values into a database table. I have placed a LoginName Control on the page and the login name is properly displaying. I am using forms Authentication and it is set up properly in the web config file. I simply want to insert the logged in username value into the database table so I can track who created the records. I am happy to be able to insert the UnserName or the UserID value. I assume both of the values are derived out of the aspnet_Users table. Being able to insert either one would be fine but I believe UserID would be better because it will always be unique.

DataSource Controls :: Installing (sql Server 2005) SSIS Packages On SQL Server 2008?

Feb 25, 2010

Previous developers have developed a .SSISDeploymentManifest file (SQL Server 2005) to install SSIS packages which prompts a Package Installation wizard. I tried to install it on SQL Sever 2008 (it works on SQL Server 2005), but it failed with the error: "Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported".

How do I install 2005 SSIS packages on SQL Server 2008? I have all the .dtsx files, not sure how to install them?

DataSource Controls :: SQL Server Management Utility With SQL Server Standard 2008

Apr 26, 2010

I have SQL Server Standard 2008 installed on my machine, alongside Visual Studio 2008.

My current hosting provider (not a huge fan) requires me to access my db's remotely via SQL Server Management Utility. To date, I've been doing it by connecting remotely in VS2008. Their troubleshooting documentation/steps, though, are for the SQL Server Management Express 2008, and i'm having a lot of connectivity issues with them.

I followed the steps here: [URL] to "add additional features to an existing installation" - but when I did so, the setup wizard indicated that the Management Tools-Basic were already installed.

So here is the problem:

When I have "On Error Resume Next" no erros get posted and everything runs just fine, the pulls from the database work perfectly. But as soon as we take On error resume next we start getting the following erros:

DataSource Controls :: SQL Server 2008 R2 64-bit Vs 32-bit?

Apr 22, 2010

I am looking at installing SQL Server 2008 R2 and am curios as to how much of a difference I should expect with it installed on a 32 bit machine vs a 64 bit machine. I have a number of high performance 32 bit machines that aren't being used for anything, and so I assume that I could simply install Windows XP Pro 32 bit on one and sqlServer2008 R2 32 bit and have an inexpensive solution. What kind of degradation in performance should I expect.

DataSource Controls :: Upgrading To Sql Server 2008

May 10, 2010

I have been writing c# .net in MVS 2005 conneting to a sql 2005 db, after initial setup about a million years ago, everyhting ran smoothly. Then I upgraded to MVS 2008 connecting to a sql 2005 server. Still all good. Now my IT department FINALLY wants to upgrade the sql server (Stand alone server running on win server 2003 r2). I am wondering if there is a checklist or walk through of steps i need to take to keep connettivity. If I shoiuld build new connection strings for example, or should the current connections be ok to find the server/db/tables provided the server name and permissions haven't changed? Here is a snippit of my config file

...
<remove name="LocalSqlServer" />
<add name="debugConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=UMAURSQL;Initial Catalog=debug;Integrated Security=true;"
