DataSource Controls :: OleDB Adding Record Options
Jan 14, 2010
need a connection to only write records without using sql, i need to prepare my new table records and write it to the database in a single passage, im using oledb how is it done?
I'm a beginner in programming and also to asp.net. I am trying to insert a row into an sql database using vb.net but I keep getting an error whenever I try to execute the code. I have read other post but I do not understand the solutions or how to place them within my code. Here is my stored procedure and vb.net code.
I have webform which has insert button to insert/Add new record into my database table. It works fine but the problem is that I have a unique field name of the field is txtQuotes ,The user should not be able to insert a record that contains the same value for that field.How can I check for duplicate?
i am trying to create connection using OLEDB connection in my app. but i am not able to create the connection as in datasource i want to use Server.mappath, but cudn't find the right method to use it. i am trying to make connection with Access database file. following is code i have tried:
string path = Server.MapPath("~/uploadaccess/Production.mdb"); string ConnectionString = @"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("~/uploadaccess/Production.mdb")&";"; and also OleDbConnection myConnection = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & path&";"); and tried this OleDbConnection myConnection = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("~/uploadaccess/Production.mdb"));
and this is the error i am getting:
Operator '&' cannot be applied to operands of type 'string' and 'string'
The attached code, the oledb part, is giving me a blank web page saying it cant connect on my local dev server. I have another app with the same code, in fact I copied it and changed the db names. The one I copied from works fine.
i am using my sql database. what type of data connection improve the performance.oledb connection or odbc connection ? what is the theory of these architectures?
i am trying to export a table from access database to excel sheet but i am facing error saying Type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand' is not defined.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim AccessConn As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:Documents and SettingsUSERDesktopD0605data.accdb") AccessConn.Open() 'New sheet in Workbook Dim AccessCommand As New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand("SELECT * INTO [Excel 8.0;DATABASE=C:Documents and SettingsUSERDesktopD0605data1.xlsx;HDR=NO;].[Sheet1] from [Table1]", AccessConn) AccessCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() AccessConn.Close() End Sub End Class
I am counting from a table for that i have written code as below
protected void get_Id_Afterpoint() { int counter = 0; string strSql = "select count(*) as ID from tblEnergy where ID=?"; OdbcCommand com = new OdbcCommand(strSql, con); com.Parameters.AddWithValue("ID", DropDownList1.SelectedValue); OdbcDataAdapter oda = new OdbcDataAdapter(com); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); oda.Fill(dt); if (dt.Rows.Count == 0) { lblID2.Text = "1"; } else { counter = dt.Rows.Count; counter = counter + 1; lblID2.Text = Convert.ToString(counter); } }
there is no record related to DropDownList1.SelectedValue. but as i am counting if(dt.rows.count) and i put break point on the bolded part it shows 1 record. how it can be possible?
I am creating an album using the following stored procedure, which returns the primary key for the newly created record:
SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[fpa_sp_albums_update_insert] @album_id int, @album_name nvarchar (50), @album_descr nvarchar(250), @album_img_cover_id_FK int, @album_creation_date date AS If @album_id > 0 UPDATE [fpa_albums] SET album_name=@album_name, album_descr= @album_descr, album_img_cover_id_FK = @album_img_cover_id_FK, album_creation_date = @album_creation_date Where ((album_id = @album_id)) Else INSERT INTO [fpa_albums] ( album_name, album_descr, album_img_cover_id_FK, album_creation_date) VALUES ( @album_name, @album_descr, @album_img_cover_id_FK, @album_creation_date) Return SCOPE_IDENTITY();
I execute the above stored procedure using the SQLHELPER. The VB.NET code for the page is as follows:
[Code]....
However, the createdAlbumID always shows -1 instead of the id for the newly created album.
I am using forms authentication and authorization through roleManager. I have two Roles - "Customers" and "Employees". The redirection to the default page for the "Customers" role is working fine, but I get an oledb error stating that one or more parameters are not being passed when I redirect a user from the "Employees" role. The following is the code in login.aspx that handles the authentication of the user:
If myReader.Read() Then ' We have a match If myReader(1) Then ' This is true if an Employee and false otherwise If Not Roles.IsUserInRole(logInUser.UserName, "Employees") Then Roles.AddUserToRole(logInUser.UserName, "Employees") End If ElseIf Not Roles.IsUserInRole(logInUser.UserName, "Customers") Then Roles.AddUserToRole(logInUser.UserName, "Customers") End If FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(logInUser.UserName, logInUser.RememberMeSet) Else Response.Write("Invalid credentials") End If............................................
I have a grid which displays a set of columns and I m trying to display only those rows in grid based on the options chosen or searched.
I filter options are
1) search for (textbox) - search from (listbox with columns product, product id , userid )
2) Date filter - choose 1 checkbox out of 3 checkboxes(create Date, submit date, Approve ) and whateevr is selected for the criteria we choose between date from and to calender.
3) Status - listbox with status ID 's Basec on this three filter options I need to frame a LINQ to SQL query that gives me results in grid any option can either be choosen or can be left blank I am using 3 - tier architecture and passing all this fields as parameters in a method from UI.cs to UI.DAL where I am writing a query to generate grid view rows. I think I need to use Dynamic LInq and I have not done that before !!
I need assistance on how to bind Radiobutton to database, so that whatever selection made in Radiobutton will appear in the database
I want to produce an online quiz, that will have the following fuctionality
1. it contain database with , ID, Questions, Option A, B,C, and D, Student Answer.
2.After forming the griedview in connection with the database, i form additonal colum to include Radiobutton where students are to choose the correct option.
3. I was able to configure the gridview which successfully show all the above document but the problem now is how to bind the selected option by students to the database so that i can know wether they choose the right answer or not. i wat the student answer appear in the colum named student answer in the database.
i shall be very grateful , if u can just give simple example that i can perform which shall be able to show the click on radiobutton in database not autopostback in textbox.
I have a bound dropdown list populated with a table of names through a select, and databinding. it shoots selectedindexchanged that (through a postback) updates a certain gridview.What happens is, since it runs from changing the index, the one that always comes selected (alexander) can only me chosen if you choose another one, then choose alexander. poor alexander.What I want is to put a blanc option at the beginning (default) and (if possible) a option as second.I can't add this option manually, since the binding wipes whatever was in the dropdown list and puts the content of the datasource.
I had a DetailsView control for editing records in a Access 2003 database. I transfered the database to MS SQL 2008 and using the same code does not work - after clicking edit nothing happens (no error) and the record is not updated.
I am developing one web application using MS Access database using oledb connection.Previously i checked the same application is works well in the same machine.Now Today i checked they provide "Unspecified Error". And also Provide the following Exception:
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Unspecified errorat System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal..ctor(OleDbConnectionString constr, OleDbConnection connection) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionFactory.CreateConnection(DbConnectionOptions options, Object poolGroupProviderInfo, DbConnectionPool pool, DbConnection owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.CreateNonPooledConnection(DbConnection owningConnection, DbConnectionPoolGroup poolGroup)at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open() at clsOledbClass.opencon() in c:inetpubwwwrootcheckNPCApp_CodeclsOledbClass.cs:line 64
I am using the following connection string for connecting database:
But if I do like this they are added after the items from the databind. I want the Select and All as the two first ones and then get the rest from the databind. How do I do that?
I have a GridView and DetailsView on the same page. If the GridView has data, I can Select a row and it brings up the DetailsView from which I can edit that record or click NEW to create a new record. Without a record to Edit, the New link and the DetailsView control is not visible. What is considered best practices for Inserting the 1st record using a same page Gridview / DetailsView combination?
I would like to check if a particular value already exist in the database Gidview row. If the value already exist, tell the user that he has already entered the record and don't save. otherwise save the record. In my case I want to check the "Random number".

I have a Default.aspx program that contains a Treeview with a SiteMapDataSource. I also have a web.sitemap loaded up with urls. When I run the deafult app I get the tree layout that matches the numbers of options but no text on any of the options to click.
I'm very new to this area and am using ASP.NET 3.5 with WMD 2008 Express Edition and VB code.
How do I write records to the SQL database using VB? I want to use the connection string, etc used in the ASP.NET controls if possible.
My website is a Rugby Club site and I've an SQL database of match fixtures which include TeamId(1XV, 2XV, etc.), Season(2008, 2009, etc) and match date.
I allow some users to update the fixture details but want to insert a series of new fixture records for the neext season which contain just TeamId Season and Match Dates. I therefore want to take the season and Team Id from label fields and then create match dates by adding seven days to a start date.
