I have two tables - Student and Advert.
I want to do the following;
1. Student is logged into their account (session is authenticated)
2. StudentID is primary key for that table, it is a foreign key for table Advert
3. When student is logged in, they create advert
What I want is their student Id to be input into the advert table when this new advert is created. How is this possible?

I am trying to use the TableApapterManager.UpdateAll to insert values to master and child table. I had set the relation to cascade for update in the dataset and the HierarchicalUpdate to true. But stil when I run TableApapterManager.UpdateAll(dataset), I get a foriegn key violation error. Following is the code I used:
int ID;
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MembersRow rwMem = m_dsMembers.Members.NewMembersRow();
rwMem.u_name = mem.Name;
m_dsMembers.Members.AddMembersRow(rwMem);
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MemPhonesRow rwmemphn = null;
rwmemphn = m_dsMembers.MemPhones.NewMemPhonesRow();
rwmemphn.u_memberid = ID;
rwmemphn.u_phn = "test";
m_dsMembers.MemPhones.AddMemPhonesRow(rwmemphn);
m_adpMgr.UpdateAll(m_dsMembers);
return ID;
The error I get is "The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_MemPhones_Members". The conflict occurred in database "Family", table "dbo.Members", column 'i_memeberid'.
The statement has been terminated."

My stored Procedure returns two tables say table1 and table2. When I try to fill the dataset, table1 is filling properly and table2 filling only one row of the table remaining rows coming empty. There is no error when I compile the code. And the output is an empty page.
Here the code I've used
SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NorthwindConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("TABL", cn);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
SqlDataAdapter dad = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
dad.Fill(ds);
GridView1.DataSource = ds;
GridView1.DataBind();

In LINQ to SQL, can primary and foreign keys be autopopulated from an associated key?I'm using the asp.net userID assigned by the create user wizard as the primary key/foreign key in several tables. Right now, when a new user is created, their userID shows up in the asp.net tables but not the ones I created. I thought it would be easier if the keys could fill themselves in, like cascade, so as I have the user fill out forms, they would already have a row in the table created and it would be an of an update instead of an insert row.

I am trying to insert a foreign key into detailsview so that user didn't have to enter value every time. I am using the following code to do this but it is failing. I am not sure what needs to be done now.
Protected Sub LinqDataSource1_Inserting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.LinqDataSourceInsertEventArgs) Handles LinqDataSource1.Inserting
LinqDataSource1.InsertParameters("Company").DefaultValue = Session("Company_new").ToString()
End Sub
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim company As String = Request.QueryString("Company")
Session("Company_new") = company
End Sub
End Class

I am inserting a record and want to set the value for a foreign key but I am getting an error - I initally thought that it would insert it if it didn't exist but I must be wrong and want to confirm that I need to check all values and make a record for them if they don't exist... here's what I am trying to do - does his make sense?
var newAllPart = new Part();
newAllPart.PartNumber = partNumber;
newAllPart.Manufacturer.ManufacturerName = partManufacturer; // error here if the Manufacturer doesn't exists already
newAllPart.PartType.PartTypeName = partType;
newAllPart.Category.CategoryName = partCategory;
newAllPart.DateCreated = DateTime.Now;
newAllPart.UserCreated = userCreated;
newAllPart.Package.PackageName = partPackage;
newAllPart.Statuse.StatusName = partStatus;
localDB.Parts.InsertOnSubmit(newAllPart);
localDB.SubmitChanges();

There is this error troubling me whenever i tried to do something to the ShopCart such as add to cart.
The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_ShopCart_Shopper". The conflict occurred in database "DIYERA", table "dbo.Shopper", column 'ShopperID'. The statement has been terminated.
I checked the database and the foreign key, ShopperID, was set correctly.

I am trying to create a stored procedure where I can insert null values in columns that have a foreign key constraint and allow nulls. The columns I am trying to insert nulls into are commentid and imageid. I have created an Insert statement in a stored procedure and I get the foreign key constraint error. Can you tell me how to allow inserting data in the other columns without having to insert anything in the commendid and the imageid?
Here is my exec of the stored procedure that is not working:

i am currently working on an asp.net mvc 2 web app using LinqToSQL. I would like to handle a scenario where a user comes form a country and for this i have set the users - countries db relationship and in my user model i have a CountryId property.
I would like to display the country name on my users display view, so i tried fetching the country name like this: User.Country.Name, but an exception occurs that i cannot access a disposed object. I understand that this is caused by the way i handle my users repository and service.
This the repository users code:
[Code]....
This is the service users code (the repository is not class level property, but a local one that gets dipsosed immediately after calling it):
[Code]....
So, how could i handle such a scenario, where i would like the Country model to be also fetched in order to use it later? Should i convert the repository model a class level proprty in order not to get disposed?

how can i retrieve the all foreign keys against a single primary key. i mean to say that if a table contain a primary key then it becomes as foreign keys in which tables.
i want to take that nam of that tables and on the base of that tables then i am to delete from all the entries. e.g: if a primary key's column entry deleted then all foreing key entries should also be deleted.
there are 988 tables in a single database. it can't be possible to go for each table to setup foreign key to ON DELETE CASCADE.
.can it have any way to delete against foreign key priority wise? mean to say that parent table contain primary key, child table contain foreign key , now there is another child table which dependent previous child table. then how can i delete all record against it?
i want to do it from programatically. i am using sql server 2005
i have completed this till to that , it retrieves all foreign keys but how to delete now on the base of priority.

I'm trying to insert a new EF object containing a reference to a related table via foreign key, and cannot get the reference stored in the new object. I have two tables in a SQL Server 2008 Database:
Component Templates
PartGroups
with a Foreign Key linking them thus: ComponentTemplates:ID [0..1<->*] PartGroups:ComponentTemplateID
I have imported these tables into a .NET web application project .edmx file (using a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model), and then created a Data Service which I then reference in a Silverlight 3.0 project. The objects are available as expected in the data context called by my Silverlight app and load correctly. Now, when I try to save a reference of ComponentTemplate into a newly created PartGroup, the PartGroup object is created in the database, but the value of ComponentTemplateID in the newly created table record is NULL.
[Code]....
(Note that _ctCtrl.ComponentTemplate is a confirmed non-NULL object reference to the parent object on which PartGroup is a child)

I have a app that records some jobs and those jobs can have notes attached therefore i connected the table with a foreign key, my notes to a Job.
in the details view of the job i allow the user to view the jobs by sending the id and fulling all the notes that match the id in the index view for the notes table. in the list of notes i have a action link to create a new note, here i sent also the id of the job to the create action of the control and try to insert that intot he note JobId to make the reference. I get this error and the note is not created. the note creats from code but not via the note controller creat action.
i get this - An error occurred while updating the entries. See the inner exception for details. below is the create action in the note controller
public ActionResult Create(int id)
{
// var newnote = db.Jobs.Include("StatusNotes").Single(j => j.JobId == id);[code]...

I have tables two tables, the "book" and the "author", a book can have many authors and vice versa, so there is an intermediate table called "book_author" with two columns as foreign key for those two primary keys
book_author
book_id
author_id
I'm trying to edit the book details and also its author using the entity date model, The controller class method
[Code]....
The HTML edit form
[Code]....
I can only update the book table, but not author that the book has or the book_author, I'm new to asp.net, I can't easily find a tutorial on this issue, I think the logic is to delete the author of the book first and then add the author for that book, but I don't know exactly about that linq and C# code. Can show me? I have set up a ASP.net MVC application which uses the default forms authentication. It uses the ASPNETDB.mdf like shown here:
I then set up another database connection which is similar to the NerdDinner.mdf file above.
I have a post that belongs to a user. It has a UserId value which needs to be a foreign key to the information in ASPNETDB.mdf. When I go to add a foreign key, I can only see information with regards to the table I made. How do I go about doing this?

I need to populate a listbox with queries from 2 sql tables, but I can only see how to populate it with 1 datasource.
Do I need to do some hand coding? If so, where should I put it?
I'd also like to add some text items to the listbox so I could say populate the listbox with a query, plus an "other" option, so that if "other" is selected, a textbox will appear that will let the user specify a new item.

i am using sql server 2005 as backend for developing webforms with asp.net using C#.i have two tables table1 and table2.
table1 has user_id(primary key,not null),user_name. and table2 has dept_id(primary key,not null),user_id(foreign key,not null),dept_location.
Firstly i created table1 and insert data in it.. later i created table2 with foreign key relationship with table1..In the add form design of table2 for entering data and insert into table2,i placed a dropdownlist which is binded with user_id from table1...dropdownlist's.datatextfield is equal to "user_name" and datavaluefield is equal to "user_id"..i have to select user_name from dropdownlist.... what i have to do is to insert data into table2... i used the simple sql insert statement as follows..
insert into table2 values(......); but it shows error :insert statement conflicted with the foreign key.

I have these two tables in my diagram:
the 1st:
PAR_TipiDocumento with
idTipoDocumento PK
idClasseDocumento
[...]
the 2nd:
PAR_ClassiDocumento with
idClasseDocumento PK
[...]
and a foreing key FK_PAR_TipiDocumento_PAR_ClassiDocumento from PAR_TipiDocumento.idClasseDocumentoto PAR_ClassiDocumento.idClasseDocumento.
This is my .cs code for the metadata:
[MetadataType(typeof(PAR_TipiDocumento_Metadata))]
[DisplayName("Tipi Documento")]
public partial class PAR_TipiDocumento[code]....
The problem is that in the Dynamic Data generated pages I correctly see all the display names "Tipi Documento" except for the header row of the PAR_ClassiDocumento table where I have "PAR_TipiDocumentos" (the plural generated by LINQ to SQL). The values under this column are correctly rendered as links to the PAR_TipiDocumento table with the right display name ("View Tipi Documento").
How can I change the Display Name of that "PAR_TipiDocumentos"?
