DataSource Controls :: SQL Insert With Server Default Values

Apr 19, 2010

I'm trying to execute a simple insert statement with the GUID and timestamp populated by default from the server. I have both of their default values set as (newid()) and (getutcdate()) respectively in SQL server. However, I receive the error when I try and execute the command "Insert Error: column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition". How do I construct my sql insert so my id and timestamp columns use their default values as assigned in sql server?

DataSource Controls :: Unicode Data By Default - In Every INSERT And UPDATE

Apr 18, 2010

I have a web project with more than 100 input boxes , so in every INSERT and UPDATE to sql server in front of sql statement I must put the golden N word, so it will be in UNICODE mode. Do we have some alternative of this? How can i make it in EVERY UPDATE and INSERT to sql server in data layer level- make it like u insert UNICODE (without N word) How can you get MSSQL server to accept Unicode data by default into a VARCHAR or NVARCHAR column?

I know that you can do it by placing a N in front of the string to be placed in the field but to by quite honest this seems a bit archaic in 2008 and particuarily with using SQL Server 2005. Example:

cmd = New SqlCommand(sql, ConnectionFromEnum(whichDatabase))
cmd.Connection.Open()
i = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()

so....

the question is : Am I suppose to make something with SQLCOMMAND to set- "enter evthng like it is UNICODE, with N auto"? or i must specify UNICODE by default in somewhere else? just to indicate that i already set in web.config

<globalization requestEncoding="utf-8" responseEncoding="utf-8" fileEncoding="utf-8" responseHeaderEncoding="UTF-8" culture="en-GB"/>

So global questions HOW TO MAKE INSERT AND UPDATE Unicode by default in every insert and update methods, without placing N word in front of literal string?

DataSource Controls :: LinqDataSource.Insert(values) Versus InsertParameters

May 26, 2010

I use LinqDataSource and need to make insert not from any data-bound controls like formView (just by pressing button on page).

In SqlDataSource I can set InsertParameters like this

<InsertParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ddlPrice" DefaultValue="0" Name="Price"
PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int16" />
<asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ddlDisc" DefaultValue="0" Name="Discount"
PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int16" />
</InsertParameters>

and then just call Insert().

But in LinqDataSource we don't have method Insert() taking no papameters so I need to create collection with values I want to insert.

& "Fat, Of_Which_Saturated, Of_Which_Monounsaturates, Of_Which_Polyunsaturates," _

DataSource Controls :: Copy Data From One Table And Insert With Extra Values?

Jan 27, 2010

Is there a way to copy a row from one table and insert to another but at the same time insert extra values to destination table?Let's say source table Item has values:

ItemID
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel

Destination table ItemHist:

ItemID
ChangeDate
ChangeReason
ChangedBy
ItemType
ItemProducer
ItemModel

I want to copy row from source table where itemid is 25, insert it into destination table and add extra values: ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy. I tried:

INSERT INTO ItemHist (ItemID, ChangeDate, ChangeReason, ChangedBy, ItemType, ItemModel) VALUES (ItemHist.ChangeDate=GetDate(), ItemHist.ChangeReason="why not", ItemHist.ChangedBy="me")
SELECT ItemID, ItemType, ItemProducer, ItemModel FROM Item WHERE ItemId=25

but obviously it didn't work ("The name 'ChangeDate' is not permitted in this context. Only constants, expressions, or variables allowed here. Column names are not permitted.").

Mar 18, 2010

I am trying to use the TableApapterManager.UpdateAll to insert values to master and child table. I had set the relation to cascade for update in the dataset and the HierarchicalUpdate to true. But stil when I run TableApapterManager.UpdateAll(dataset), I get a foriegn key violation error. Following is the code I used:

int ID;
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MembersRow rwMem = m_dsMembers.Members.NewMembersRow();
rwMem.u_name = mem.Name;
m_dsMembers.Members.AddMembersRow(rwMem);
DAL.Datasets.dsMembers.MemPhonesRow rwmemphn = null;
rwmemphn = m_dsMembers.MemPhones.NewMemPhonesRow();
rwmemphn.u_memberid = ID;
rwmemphn.u_phn = "test";
m_dsMembers.MemPhones.AddMemPhonesRow(rwmemphn);

DataSource Controls :: Insert Array In SQL Server?

I am trying to insert a array into SQL with no luck. I get the string from a GPRS device that looks like this:

All I want to do is to split the TagID array and insert it with the rest of the string into a SQL table. The TagID array must inserted into the following colomns in the DB. TagID, TID, UserMemory, DateTime and Direction. After the insert I just give a response that the insert was successfull or failed.

My code this far:

Custom Server Controls :: How To Custom Controls Derived From Existing Controls - Overriding Default Property Values

Nov 15, 2010

I have some (probably very basic) questions about developing custom controls. I am wanting to derive a set of button controls, and the first one I have started on is a "DeleteButton", that has a additional property (DeleteConfirmationText) that is built into the OnClientClick attribute. To get that added, I overrode the Render method as follows:

[Code]....

This all works well. Now, I will add some logic to make sure that there is some text in the DeleteConfirmationText property, but that isn't the intent of my question.
What I am also wanting to do is to override some of the default property values, so I added that to the default constructor:

[Code]....

Now, in the designer in VS2008, and I look at the properties for the control, there isn't a default value shown in the "Properties" section, and the Causesvalidation still shows the underlying classes default value of "True". As well, in design mode, where the GridView control that containse my DeleteButton control would be displayed, there is an error box "There was an error rendering the control. 'Are you certain you want to delete this attorney?' cound not be set on property 'DeleteConfirmationText'. Here's the markup where I am defining the deletebutton control:

[Code]....

What am I doing wrong?
