I have to retreive all records from a table except 1 record. For example: I give example from default database in SQL ie "master" In "master" DB we have "spt_values" table. Now if I want to retreive all records from spt_values table except 1-1 record of type = A and type = B. To retreive all records its a simple query "Select * from spt_values where type in ('A','B')" -- this will returns 16 records. Now I want to retreive all record except 1-1 record left in each type, so it will return 14 records in result.

I've got a sp as below:
The functionality I want to achieve is that when isHomePageFeatured is checked then this record is set to 1 for that column and for all the other records in the table it is set to 0.
This is fine for update as I can use the property Id to compare against, but for the newly inserted record it doesn't yet have a propertyId so I wondered if using newID() to affect all other records would have the same affect.

I have 2 tables ( having one to many relation )

I have two tables. One table containing 1 master record and the other table containing multiple records per 1 master record. I want to only display in a gridview (or whatever is best) the master record AND its assocated detail records IF certain fields in the detail records are there. I have been trying to figure out how to do this but I am still a bit of a newbie and I don't how I can do this.

I am counting from a table for that i have written code as below

there is no record related to DropDownList1.SelectedValue. but as i am counting if(dt.rows.count) and i put break point on the bolded part it shows 1 record. how it can be possible?

If I have records in a table in this order:
Id - Date - Type
1 - 2011-03-01 - 1
2 - 2011-03-02 - 0
3 - 2011-03-03 - 0
4 - 2011-03-04 - (-1)
5 - 2011-03-04 - 0
Can I somehow select the records between a record having type 1 and type -1 without using a cursor,for example the records with ids 1-4 in this example?

How to start at a specific record and returning only the next 5 records with T-SQL command

That is my concatenated SQL statement but it obviously does not work because it only looks at the top 5 records in the entire table instead of what I intended which would be to look at the top 5 records starting with the record where PostNumber equals the value of lastPost. I have been searching for a T-SQL statement that will allow me to do this but I can't find one.

I am curious, if it's better to iterate through a set of records using cursor or using a WHILE (SELECT ..) ? I have read that cursors can be expensive, so may be WHILE (SELECT..) is a better approach.But I am not sure ?

I have a SQL data source control defined to filter data from a SQL database, sorted according to the date time in descending order. When i try and update a field of the latest record, the entire column, related to the field of the filtered search gets modified. I want to only update a field of the last record i.e. the last entry of the filtered data. How can i achieve it?

I have a basic CMS which I'm adding to a site to display some downloads organised into groups. I have two tables, one for the groups and one for the downloads. I'm using a repeated to display the groups with another repeater inside to display the children. This works perfectly.
However some of my download groups may not have any downloads related to them and I'd like to handle this by filter the groups so that only those with a relate download record(s) are shown.
I'm trying to do this with the query which populates the top repeater based on some ideas I read but I must be going wrong with the syntax.
Here is what I'm using to try and only select downloads groups which have downloads linked to them by the download group ID.

im learning t-sql, infact i needed its while-loop to loop through records of a table, i found this code in some book:

i understand here that setting the rowcount variable to 1 will force the select statements to return only one record, do all above select statements return one record only?
if the underlined select statement returns one record everytime it is executed, isn't it supposed to return the same first record of the table everytime? is there a better way to loop through a table's records?

I have website database with a data table constently being "insert, select, count". This table has over a million record and is growing really fast.
Now I'm start worring about whether or not my sql server could handle the pressure. or maybe to have a million record is not a good practice at all.
The specs of my server is almost the best in the market. So I won't worry about the hardware.
Just wondering if ended up 3 million record in that table, will my queries and sql server itself still running smoothly?

I'm not sure if I'm using the correct SQL for what I need. Well, I know that I am not because I'm not getting the results that I expect.
I have a table of products and it has a productID field and a setID field.
Products can be grouped together by making the groupID the same for the both of them.
I have only @productID parameter. My goal is to get a list of products minus this product and any other product that it is grouped with (ie..setID is the same).
Here is the query that I wrote because it has worked when excluding products from another table. I used the explicit GUID and still nothing.
