DataSource Controls :: SqlException Timeout Expired?

Jun 9, 2010

We are seeing the following timeout error being logged into our Event Viewer every now and then. We are using LINQ to connect to the SQL Server 2008 and the connection string is defined in the web.config file.One wierd thing I noticed is that the .NET framework is timing out trying to detect if this is SqlCe connection string. Why is it trying to waste time and then timing out when we have a SQL Server 2008 as the database?
What can I do to fix this problem?

Server: Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit
\IIS 7.5.7600.16385 Application Pool: Integrated Mode with 32-Bit Applications Enabled. Queue Length = 5000, Indentity = Network Service.Database Server: SQL Server 2008

DataSource Controls :: SqlException Not Getting Sent Back To C# Code?

Jan 22, 2010

I have a straight forward SP that throws a divide by zero error like:

[Code]....

Note that even though I am calling RAISEERROR() its not getting returned back to my code if I use this try catch. When I remove the try catch like above it returns fine. I made sure that the severity level is >= 11 so it's not ignored. At this point I'm out of ideas because everything I can find published seems to say that this should work.

FYI my C# code is pretty straight forward I don't think it has anything to do with it as I have a wide open Exception catch and it's never getting called so I'm not posting it to keep this message brief.

DataSource Controls :: SQL Statement Timeout / System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout Expired?

Jan 20, 2010

Hopefully I am posting this in the correct forum.

I am having a problem with my ASP.Net Web application. The application is developed using vb.net and is linked to a SQL Server database. Let me explain how the application works and the problem I am experiencing. The system is an online web app which allows registered users to create a CV online. One of the pages within the app gives users the chance to add a cover note to their CV. The page that allows them to do this consists of only a textarea control and a button control. The textarea allows users to input up to 4,000 characters.

Once the user clicks the 'Save' button to save their cover note info, the following code then executes.This code checks to see if the CV already has cover note info, if it does, then the application runs an update statement, otherwise, it runs an insert statement.The table within the database which records the cover note information is called tbl_covernote and has three columns, covernote_id (int and autoincrement), cv_id(int), covernote_text (nvarchar(max)).

The error which occurs sometimes is as follows:

Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim param(0) As SqlParameter

ADO.NET :: SqlCommand.Transaction Object "lost" During SqlException?

Aug 16, 2010

I've been stuck with this for days, and posted elsewhere online without success. If anyone can provide me with an answer to this problem I will arrange for beer to be sent to your chosen address....I have a DataTable containing multiple rows of data that I want to insert into a SQL 2005 table. The code works perfectly when the DataTable contains values that meet the SQL table schema design (e.g. all rows have a username, password, firstname & surname). However, when a value is missing or incorrectly entered (e.g. no firstname value), this causes a SqlException. I need to handle this in ASP.NET to provide a more user-friendly error message than what SQL gives, then rollback the whole transaction to cancel the transaction.The code attached is an imitation of how my data layer works. The error occurs on the
RollBack() method. The error is: 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'Can anyone explain why this happens? The SqlCommand object seems okay when I debug (it exists), but the
Transaction object is lost as soon as the SqlException occurs. Although the transaction never commits when a SqlException is thrown, its a pretty ugly exit.My code design might be poor, in which I would welcome advice, but most important I need to figure out how to trap SqlExceptions without this error occuring, and Rollback as needed.The SqlException Numbers thrown are 2601 or 2627, both of which carry a severity level of
14, which is not high enough for the SqlCommand object to close the connection according to MSDN.The code looks lengthy but should be simple to follow...

DataSource Controls :: Invalid Column Name 'ContractDocumentType'

Jun 3, 2010

I have two drop down lists and a upload control. One dropdown allows my user to select a valid contract number, and the second dropdown is populated from a table that has 5 contract document types and id's.

after i use the dropdowns to select the information i want and select the file i want to upload based on that information, I press my upload button and get " Invalid column name 'ContractDocumentType'."

It is very possible that I have extra code in here that is not necessary as I have fixed several issues before this one, such as a convert varchar to int error.

What Contract Number Are These Documents Related To?

<asp:DropDownList ID="lstContractNumber" runat="server"
DataSourceID="dsdContractNumbers" DataTextField="ContractNumber"
DataValueField="ContractNumber">

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="dsdContractNumbers" runat="server"

MVC :: Invalid Object Name 'dbo.Movies' In ASP

Jan 24, 2011

I'm following the ASP.Net MVC3 tutorial. When I'm in step [URL] I meet a problem with the SQLExpress and EFCodeFirst. In the step, the EFCodeFirst is expected to generate the database("Movies") and table ("dbo.Movies") automatically. Invalid Object Name 'umbracoDomains'?

Jan 19, 2011

I uploaded all the files of Umbraco CMS to the my http://blog.domain.com and also modified the web.config file. When I point to blog.domain.com, it is giving an error written in the subject. The hosting type for the subdomain is physical hosting not subdomain on subfolder

So, I have a second web.config file in this subdomain. The first one is in the main domain. I hoep this doesnt make a differnce. Here's the screenshot: [URL]

I checked the database user with which I am trying to login in to the DB and it has the db_owner permissions for the database.

Also, I tried googling for the similar issues to see if someone with similar error had resolved the problem. Here are some pages but I haven't been able to find a solution.

The lack of using is a carry over from my more beginner days.Below I included the before and after code. The after code always gives me the "Invalid attempt to call FieldCount when reader is closed" error.
