I have a linq datasource which is configured to get all the rows from a table(Suppose i have two rows in a table (ID and Name),and when i bind theDataSource to a ListView i use

and this works fine for me.but the real prolem is here.I need to convert the return type of Eval to a string and then use a conditional logic to return the data(Yea... i know my explaination is not clear but the code below clears it out for you...lol).Now i want this.

Datecol is a datetime in a sql table.

is what I use for my query string for sqlcommand(). I'm getting the error "a field or property datecol1 could not be found in the datasource". Without the convert, the query is ok.

I'm having a asp.net listbox on the front end webform with multiple selection, after user selecting multiple items, i'm capturing the DataKeyValue of listbox(which is amenity_id of bigint) and looping all the selected items to a string with comma sepearated values. For example if user selects first 4 options, my output string will be like this (1,2,3,4) and i'm passing this as a string type to my data access layer and then to my below stored proc. I'm geting this error while inserting.. i know that my data type is of bigint and i'm trying to insert string type. i need to convert the string type to INT type and insert data. below are my stored procs:

I'm having a problem with reading a string from sqlserver database and use it as the text of a label,
getDescTableAdapter gd = new
getDescTableAdapter();
Label2.Text = Convert.ToString(gd.GetDesc(pid));
what i get in the form is: getDesc ! everything is right in the dataset and if i bind it to a gridview it works fine but when i convert it to string it seems it converts the table adaptor's name instead of the value.ance

I am trying to get the 'userid' of the logged in user using the code below:
"MembershipUser myObject = Membership.GetUser();
String userId = myObject.ProviderUserKey.ToString();"
and later using it as a parameter to the stored procedure.
The logic here is, the user should login first in order to retrieve his/her album. when the user is logged in, im retrieving the 'userid' and using it as parameter to load the corresponding album from the database.
when i login and open the albumpage, im end up with this exception:
"Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Guid".
What could be the reason and how can i avoid this exception.
by the way im using the aspnet_Users table's userid field.

I have a ASP gridview control. I have a ASP label control in the item template column. I bind data to the grid using -

But, the value of this string can be upto 80 characters. But, I cannot afford to have the column length to be so high. And, there are limitations so I cannot use Wrap="true" and limit the column width. So, I figured the solution could be to display only about 50 characters in the grid and display the entire string as a tool tip. I managed to do this by using this -

<asp:Label ID="lblDesc" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Description").ToString().Substring(0,50) %>' ToolTip='<%# Eval("Description") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
This displays the first 50 characters of the string in the grid column. And, the complete string is displayed as a tool tip when the mouse pointer hovers over the text. But, the problem arises when the string length is less than 50 characters. In this case, an exception is thrown. I tried modifying this piece of code to allow conditional display by checking for the string length. But, I could not get this to work. Is there a way to fix this problem? Can we call a javascript function within Eval() ?

I'm building a dynamic crosstab grid using GridView in asp.net 3.5
I wish to bind to CellContents[0] for dynamic column 1, CellContents[1] for dynamic column 2 (dynamic column 0 is the RowName field from the CrossTabDataObject) etc. I am using:
object boundValueObj = null;
Control ctrl = (Control)sender;
IDataItemContainer dataItemContainer = (IDataItemContainer)ctrl.NamingContainer;
boundValueObj = DataBinder.Eval(dataItemContainer.DataItem, strSelectedID);
This code is in the InstantiateIn function of the gridview as I'm creating drop down list templates in each cell of the crosstab.
I have code (not shown) that sets strSelectedID depending on the column being created.
When strSelectedID is equal to "RowName" for dynamic column [0] the DataBinder.Eval function works fine and sets boundValueObj as expected. The problem comes when strSelectedID is set to "CellContents[n]" where n is the Column Index.
DataBinder.Eval only works with properties and fields of objects. How do I get around this?
