DataSource Controls :: Determine Why E.AffectedRows = 0?

Oct 19, 2010

I'm trying to update a record in a Gridview and I keep getting an optimistic concurrency error... but the site is still in development, so another user cannot be updating the same record.

It's a simple two-column table (only 8 rows so far) - I removed the primary key and thought that might help clear-up the issue I'm having with trying to update that field, but it didn't help.

how I can see more information about why the e.AffectedRows is returning zero? I have a feeling that it may be a permissions issue... because it always seems to be a permissions issue.

I had something like this on another project, but it only errored in my development environment and worked perfectly in the production environment. I seem to lose file permissions occasionally after I back-up a site in my development environment.

DataSource Controls :: Check Time Of Day To Determine Shift To Return?

Mar 2, 2010

I have a table(ShiftCalendar) that lists a letter and a datetime:

Shift Date
A 3/2/2010 8:00:00 AM
B 3/2/2010 8:00:00 PM

I can run a select query that looks like this:

SELECT Shift
FROM ShiftCalendar
WHERE (Convert(nvarchar(10), GETDATE(), 101 = Convert(nvarchar(10), Date, 101))

This will return both values, but I need to to check the time of day to determine which Shift to return. I have been messing around with the IF ESLE and CASE but I can't find a way to tell the select statement what the time of day is.

How can I determine what the data type of the parameter is? Maybe I need to alter the string[] part, above?

I want to be able to get the values of the boundfields on data controls such as Details View at runtime. I'm debuggong a project and stepping through the fields of a details view. I have a template field that's using the Text='<%# Bind("LastName") %>' syntax. What is the best way to monitor the values in this situation? Should I use "Add watch"? Is there a better way?

Forms Data Controls :: Determine What Was Changed In A Datalist?

Jun 15, 2010

I am creating a WebApp and got stuck on the "Save" process. I am gathering data from a SQL DB and using a DataReader to populate the DataList. The DataList hold employee data and there are quite a few. What is the best way to save the data to the database?

I had originally thought that once a Supervisor has verified the employee data, just click the "Update" button and save to the DB but how would I determine which fields in the DataList have been changed? I only want the changes saved.

use a Dataset to populate the DataList then build a second Dataset with the same structure and compare the two. Then save the changes to the DB. I had read before on the 4GuysFromRolla website that using Datasets in a web app wasn't the greatest ...

Forms Data Controls :: Best Way To Determine If A Gridview Row Has A Child Record?

Jul 19, 2010

I have a gridview with a template filed which contains an embedded gridview, which may or may not contain any records. I want to be able to make the master gridview row a different color for those rows whose child gridview has records. My plan is to add a sqldatasource to the page that targets the child gridview table and during the master gridview RowDataBound event I would check to see if there are any records and apply the formatting accordingly.

Forms Data Controls :: Determine Template In Listview's ItemDataBound?

I am using the ItemDataBound event of a ListView to attach data for the different kind of templates I am using. Well, actually, want to use - I have not yet figured out how to know which template is coming in in the ItemDataBound event. I want to figure out if it is the edititemtemplate, insertitemplate, itemtemplate, etc. All these templates have different controls (edit and insert are the same though) and I need to set the controls contained in them.

Forms Data Controls :: ListView Determine If Checkbox Is Selected And Get Corresponding Values From Row?

Feb 28, 2011

I am trying to determine if the user selected a checkbox for each row in a ListView after hitting a submit button. If so, I need to get the record ID and one other piece of information from that row to insert their selection into a table. I would use a GridView but the questions must be grouped by their categories with the category names displayed followed by their corresponding questions (from what I've read ListView makes this easier).

I tried the code in this forum posting

[URL]

The problem I am encountering so far is that it keeps returning null even if the Checkbox is checked.

Here is my code:

foreach (ListViewDataItem lvi in lvQuestions.Items)
{
// Find the checkbox in each row
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)lvQuestions.FindControl("cbQuestion");
// If the checkbox is ticked

Forms Data Controls :: How To Determine Excel .XLSX Version From Uploaded File

Aug 10, 2010

In my application I've allowed users to upload Excel 2003 .xls files, and import them into a Gridview. This has been working fine using the following connection string:

[Code]....

Now my users are using Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010, I need to allow the newer file extensions (.XLSX) to be accessible too.

Therefore, within the connection string above I presume I could change the Excel version from 8.0 to 9.0 or 10.0 respectively, but is there much difference between Excel 2007 and Excel 2010 files?

If so, is it possible to 'detect' the Excel file version so that I can use the appropriate connection string to read the data from the files?

Forms Data Controls :: Programmatically Determine What Type Of Template Field To Put In Each Row In A Gridview?

Aug 11, 2010

I have an application that I would like to be able to allow the user to modify multiple characteristics of each record within a datagrid.

Most characteristics require data to be entered in a text box but some a check box would be more appropriate.

My question is does a gridview column need to have all the same item template controls? or could I read from the database the control type and dynamically alter the template control for each row as it loads?

Data Controls :: Determine Date By Subtracting Days From Current Date Dynamically From TextBox

Jan 17, 2013

in my asp.net_vb code web. there are 9 textboxes whcih is used for entering numerical/dates

first is lve.text in whicj numder is entered

second one is lvefrom.text

thirdone is lveto.text

when user fills (lve.text) 5 and enter 15 Jan 2013 in lvefrom.text then lveto.text should show 19 Jan 2013. i had posted this earlier and got reply which is mentioned below. this code below gives me 20 Jan 2013 instead of 19 Jan 2013.

tw text boxes lve.text (number filled) and lve from.text (date filled). when user enter a numder in lve.text and select a date fro date picker in lvefrom.text then lveto.text should show date selected in lvefrom.text + number of days in lveto.text (eg if number of days is 5 and date selected in lvefrom.text is 15 Jan 2013 then lveto.text should display 19 jan 2013. because the starting day is also counted in my case.

Protected Sub lvefrom_TextChanged1(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lvefrom.TextChanged
Dim ObjLocDate As New Date
Dim IntLocDays As Integer
IntLocDays = Convert.ToInt32(lve.Text)
ObjLocDate = lvefrom.Text
ObjLocDate = ObjLocDate.AddDays(IntLocDays)
lveto.Text = ObjLocDate.Date.ToString("dd-MMM-yyyy")
End Sub

fourt tex box is pfx.text, fifth is pfx1.text, sixth is pfx2.text

when use filles pfx.text 3 then pfx1.text should display 12 Jan 2013 and pfx2.text should display 14 Jan 2013. these are the prefix for leave( as 12 to 14 Jan 2013 is prefix.seveth is sfx.text, eighth is sfx1.text and nineth is sfx2.text

when user fills sfx.text 3 then sfx1.text should display 20 Jan 2013 and sfx2.text should display.

C# - How To Determine Up/down Latency Of A Web App

May 20, 2010

I am trying to work out how to calculate the latency of requests through a web-app (Javascript) to a .net webservice.

Currently I am essentially trying to sync both client and server time, which when hitting the webservice I can look at the offset (which would accurately show the 'up' latency.

The problem is - when you sync the time's, you have to factor in latency for that also. So currently I am timeing the sync request (round trip) and dividing by 2, in an attempt to get the 'up' latency...and then modify the sync accordingly.

This works on the assumption that latency is symmetrical, which it isn't. Does anyone know a procedure that would be able to determine specifically the up/down latency of a JS http request to a .net service? If it needs to involve multiple handshakes thats fine, what ever is as accurate as possible.

Determine The State Of Checkbox?

Dec 21, 2010

I made some adding of dynamic checkbox and it would be located in the panel. And at the same time the checkbox would be save also in my List(Of Checkbox).

BTW, my checkbox is not the HTML control (if that's how you call it). Now i made some function wherein Im going to get all the state of my checkbox in that particular panel. This is how I do it:

Code:

For Each ctrl As Checkbox In listControl
if ctrl.checked = true then
' code here
end if
Next

Unfortunately nothing happen. So how am I going to check the state of my checkbox. I already test all the checkbox saved in my list(of T) and also tried looping "Me.pnlControl.COntrols"

C# - Determine Which Tab An Action Was Called From?

Aug 27, 2010

The page I'm editing had three tabs, each tab contains a diffrent grid view which is populated by a search box with in the tab. Each row in the grid view has a check box. When a print button is pressed all records with a tick in the check box should be printed off. Then page then reloads but some of the content is missing due to the way the page has been coded. This is becuase some of the code is only called when the tab is clicked not on postback. Is there anyway that I change the following code so that it's called after postback? These are the functions that are causing the most problem.. I need them to be loaded for the correct tab on postback.. I can't do it for all three as the code takes forever to run in that case.

AddActionsToGridView(gvGlobal);
AddCheckboxesToGridView(gvGlobal);
{
if (tabconConsignments.ActiveTabIndex == 0)
{
dtGlobalIDConsignments = fGenerateTableSQL(astrPalletIDs, DateFrom, DateTo, ddlReqColDel.SelectedValue, "GlobalID", "", "");
//Global ID Tab
gvGlobal.DataSource = dtGlobalIDConsignments;
gvGlobal.DataBind();
//Actions
AddActionsToGridView(gvGlobal);
AddCheckboxesToGridView(gvGlobal);
}
else if (tabconConsignments.ActiveTabIndex == 1)
{
dtCreatedDateConsignments = fGenerateTableSQL(astrPalletIDs, DateFrom, DateTo, ddlReqColDel.SelectedValue, "CreatedDate", "", "");
//Created Date Tab
gvCreationDate.DataSource = dtCreatedDateConsignments;
gvCreationDate.DataBind();
tbCreationDateSearch.Text = "";
//Actions
AddActionsToGridView(gvCreationDate);
AddCheckboxesToGridView(gvCreationDate);
}
else if (tabconConsignments.ActiveTabIndex == 2)
{
dtAccountsConsignments = fGenerateTableSQL(astrPalletIDs, DateFrom, DateTo, ddlReqColDel.SelectedValue, "Account", "", "");
//Account Tab
gvAccount.DataSource = dtAccountsConsignments;
gvAccount.DataBind();
AddActionsToGridView(gvAccount);
AddCheckboxesToGridView(gvAccount);
}

if you want me to post any more code or any more info it's been a hard one for me to get my head around so I might of missed something out.

How To Determine Why Application Is Recycling

Mar 9, 2010

I am running an ASP.NET application on an IIS7 server. It has been running fine for a long time, but over the past week or so it has been discarding all users' sessions several times a day. I enabled all of the application pool recycle logging options as described in http://blogs.iis.net/ganekar/archive/2008/12/12/iis-7-0-application-pool-recycles-log-a-event-in-windows-event-log.aspx, but I didn't get anything in my event log.

There are no errors in the event log, and no visible symptoms except that all my users lose their sessions.

Are there any other reasons that IIS would recycle my application pool? Is there any other type of logging that I can enable to find out what is happening?
