am a vb.net programmer. I created following stored procedure on SQL Server 2000:-
-- =============================================
-- Author: <Author,,Name>
-- Create date: <Create Date,,>
-- Description: <Description,,>
-- =============================================
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetLocations]
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
(
@loc_required int
)
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
-- Insert statements for procedure here
declare @gaps table (id int identity(1, 1),Lct varchar(10), locid int)
insert into @gaps(Lct, locid)
select location, id from location where filled =0 order by id
declare @templocation table(from_cell varchar(10),to_cell varchar(10),no_of_free_cells int)
insert into @templocation
select g1.Lct as 'from cell', g2.Lct as 'to cell' , [number of free cells] from
(select min(locid) as 'from_cell' , max (locid) 'to_cell' , count(Lct) as 'number of free cells' from @gaps
group by left(lct, 1), locid-id ) x
inner join @gaps g1 on x.from_cell = g1.locid
inner join @gaps g2 on x.to_cell = g2.locid
declare @finallocation table(from_cell varchar(10),to_cell varchar(10),no_of_free_cells int)
insert into @finallocation
select * from @templocation where no_of_free_cells >= @loc_required order by no_of_free_cells,from_cell
select top 1 * from @finallocation
END
GO
And now me application gives me following error:-

As per this how-to, I've successfully configured IIS on my XP-SP3 dev box for SQL Server 2008 Express to save ASP.NET session state information. I'm just using SQL Server because otherwise on every recompile, I was losing the session state which was obnoxious (having to re-login). But, I'm facing an annoying issue in that every time I restart SQL there's this error, and sometimes one or two other very similar friends:The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'ASPStateTempSessions',database 'tempdb', schema 'dbo'.To fix the error, I just open Management Studio and edit the User Mapping for the login/dbo I'm using on the ASPState db, and re-add tempdb to that user with all but deny permissions. Apparently, once the right permissions are there, ASP.NET is able to automatically create the tables it uses. It just can't run that CreateTempTables sproc until the right security is there.HE QUESTION...Is there a way to not have to re-do this on every restart of the SQL Server?I don't really care right now about keeping the temp data across restarts, but I would like to not have to go through this manual step just to get my web app working on localhost, which uses session state variables throughout. I suppose one could resort to some kind of stored procedure within SQL Server to accomplish the task for this machine when the service starts, to not have to do it manually. I'd accept such an answer as a quick fix. But, I'm also assuming there's a better recommended configuration or something. Not seeing an answer to this on the how-to guide or elsewhere here on StackOverflow.

I have written some vb code that inserts whatever has been written on my page into an Access database. Only problem is VWD throws up an error saying that the syntax of my SQL statement is wrong. I am 95% sure that this statement is correct because when I saw the statement in Text Visualizer and tried that statement in MYSQL the data went in perfectly.
I have pasted the code below:
strSQL = "INSERT INTO User (UserID, FirstName, LastName, Password) VALUES "

I have a website which displays news information. It displays the titles at the default (home) page and when click it shows the full story.
I use object datasource to load the news titles.
Now, sometimes the database server lose its connection or changes to the database and it affects the whole website because error is reported at the Application level. I would like the Home page to still show but the section where the news titles usually appears will now show an error message that the database is down (Refer below my part of my code).
How can I achieve that?? I tried to do that at the page_error level but it displays nothing. I don't want to pass the error to application level, I want to handle at datasource load/binding level so that it display this error message at the news section and other home website information can still be shown.

I am getting error messages for the last two lines of the following button click event handler code where I am attempting to create a new record in my Profiles table with 3 column entries:
protected void ButtonSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string Callsign = Server.HtmlEncode(Textbox1.Text);
string Password = Server.HtmlEncode(Textbox2.Text);
string Email = Server.HtmlEncode(TextBox3.Text);
DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext();
Profile profile = new Profile();
profile.Callsign = Callsign;
profile.Password = Password;
profile.Email = Email;
db.Profiles.Add(profile);
db.SubmitChanges(profile);
}
The first error message refers to the "Add" statement in the second to last line. It states, 'Syatem.Data.Linq.Table<Profile>' does not contain a definition for 'Add'. The last 2 errors refer to the last line. They state "The best overloaded method match
for 'Syatem.Data.Linq.DataContext.SubmitChanges(Syatem.Data.Linq.ConflictMode)' has some invalid arguments" and "Argument '1': cannot convert from 'profile' to 'Syatem.Data.Linq. ConflictMode'".

I am using the SQLDataReader to execute a Stored Procedure that accepts two parameters (BuildingTID and Department) to return the appropritae Value in my case The Director of the Department. My problem is I get the following error when I run the code that I added below for review. Let me also add that the user is selecting the values that I am using for the stored procedure from 2 DropDownLists. I am getting it when I try to assign the value that is in the Department DropDown
list to the first parameter.
Dim myParm As SqlParameter = getDirectorsCMD.Parameters.Add("@BuildingTID", SqlDbType.Int, 15).Value = (ddlDepartment.SelectedValue)
Also obviously there are more issues with my code than just the error because the datareader records property is false meaning I am not returning a row

I am now using SQL Server 2008 EXPRESS x64 on a PC running WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE x64 bit.
how to configure ASP.Net Membership Providers because I can't attach a database created after this example :
http://aquesthosting.headtreez.com/doc/29423088-74cd-4d51-b2ee-3cb958f08d1a
(I have created runproviders.sql with my Visual Studio x64 Win64 Command Prompt (2010) )
Still now working...
Every time I run ASP.NET Configuration -> Provider -> Select a single provider for all site management data and TEST for
AspNetSqlProvider
I get the following error every time :
"Could not establish a connection to the database.
If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider."
I can tell you for sure that my new created database is working because i used a web page with a CreateUserWizard1 control and I can create new users.Even I can see the new creted user with ASP.NET Configuration -> Security.

I'm stumbling on a basic LinqDataSource insertion problem. For some reason, I cannot insert records. The run-time returns the following error: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index The mark-up is as follows with the InsertParameters group. Adding or removing the group leads to the same error. (Note that updating works fine):
[Code]....
The events are void (just a convenient way to to troubleshoot). However, the run-time error occurs before the events are fired.

I have the logged-in user's Guid stored in a session variable. My understanding is that when the Guid is passed to the session variable it becomes a string. When I use the detailsview control I have to convert the session variable back to a guid and I've been doing it like this and it seems to work fine:
e.values("UserId") = session("LoggedInUserId")
Dim UserId as Guid = New Guid()
When I try to use the Insert() command after the following:
SqlDataSource3.InsertParameters("UserId").DefaultValue = Session("LoggedInUserId")
I get an "InvalidCastException" error with the comment "Conversion from type 'Guid' to type 'String' is not valid." I'm assuming the session variable needs to be converted to a type Guid since that's what I've had to do with the Detailsview control. I've tried a few different ways of converting the session variable back to a Guid so the insert command will work, but no matter which method of conversion I try I get errors such as "value of type system.guid cannot be converted to 'string'. I'm confused because I thought I was supposed to convert it from a string to a Guid. The "UserId" parameter is a non-primary key uniqueidentifier in the database.

On one of our applications we are getting a timeout error on an 'additional details' field in our database, the field type is nVarChar(MAX).
The error seems to be happening when a user enters more than 4000 characters into the additional details field. It is my understanding that this fieldtype can store up to 8gb of data and should be used in stead of the "Text" field type?
We have since limited the user from entering more than 4000 characters via the application, however the DB still contains legacy data - when the 'additional details' with more than 4000 characters is pulled out - "Timeout Error".

I am a newbie on the subject. Seems I am missing something.
I have viewed and tried the samples in this site and tried to modify the moviesDB example with adding 2 more tables to my database. Tried to use other tables with different pages but didnt work. When I try to go to the page i created it redirects me to the index.aspx again and again. When I try to enter the direct adress to the explorer then I get an error. Is there any multi-paged and multi-tabled(sql i mean) example around? for the ppl who need to start from the begining....
