Dec 19, 2012I am trying to set up a server on my own pc to test programs i am making, however i keep running into an issue with Access databases saying that it's not registered on my local machine or something like that. So i was thinking of trying MySql instead, but i cant figure out how to set up a database to run on my pc. I have done it using MySql Workbench before to connect to a database set up on my schools server, but that was an already set up database that they created for each student. I want to know how to set one up on my own pc. how to set this up? I tried the server administration section of MySql Workbench but it seems to ask for an existing database already.

First one will be: I've installed MySql, Query broswer, and ODBC connector (not sure what this one does. Can anyone explain?)
Now, when im dragging a new DataGridView into the form, and try to connect it to a MySql database, i can't seem to find MySql in the databases list... why is that?
Second question, assuming everything works fine, how can i upload the database to a server and use it there?
I can think of two problems trying to do this : (1) Im not sure where my Database files are stored at... (for some reason, they are not found in MySql/Data... this folder is completly absent)
(2) While working with ACCESS, all i had to do is to point the .aspx page that did the connecting to the location of the .mdb file, but now, each time i want to reach my database, i need to send the page to the server (localhost). How will i create a connection to my database, when its on another server, in the code page ? (small code example would be nice).

Mono + Mysql = Slow - Inserts 26,000 Records Into A Mysql Database
Dec 16, 2010Why does a very simple script which inserts 26,000 records into a mysql database (myisam, no transactions) take 13 seconds in the php implementation, and then 35-50 seconds using mono+mysql connector? I thought asp.net was faster than php? Could the problem be the mono mysql connector is "platform independent", so the performance just stinks? or does asp.net suffer more overhead than php when it comes to executing each query? Aren't there any native linux binaries for mysql connector for mono that may be faster?

However, usually they will only provided a couple MS SQL databases, but a large number (like 10) MySQL Databases. Can I use a MySQL database as a back end to a ASP.NET website? If so why would I want to pay extra to use MS SQL over MySQL?

Jan 22, 2010Creating a system with web front end and SQL backend (microsoft obviously). I have tried using the asp.netsqlprovider but i can;t as i am only allowed one database on the server, so i then tried to update my current database with the triggers to input the schema into the already existing database.Next step i create my own table with two simple fields of username and password and try and authenticate that way, i can't get that to work either.
I ahve limited permissions on the network as i am a University Student. I really don't know what to do. Never had to create a log on system before and i thought it would be far simpler than this. I ahve used Microsoft's sqlprovider schema before and it worked fine. I have also authenticated via IIS and AD too before. I can't do any of those two in this instance it seems.I need an alternative for logging in users, if needs be in can be crude. I also still need to have some kind of two different views too for logged in users and not logged in users, but that can change if needs must.Don't let me down people, haha. Think this posts in the correct place, i could not find another one i thought could be more relevant.

May 10, 2010I have a development database and one in production. There are two different sets of data in each database. On my dev system, I have mostly dummy data that I test with and in production is the real data for my web application. I recently added a new feature to the app that required a new table, and a new field for a foreign key in an existing table. I now need to upload that new structure to the production database without overwriting the live data with my test data.
If I run the Database Publishing Wizard, and choose "Schema Only" will it import the new structure and leave the existing data alone, or will it drop the records in my production database tables?
