View 1 RepliesI need to be able to read an excel file from a file upload control but I can not save the file to disk first, it must be done in memory.
[Code]....
Above is my code for reading the data file if it IS saved to disk, but again, I have to be able to do this without saving the file to disk, it must be done in memory. I have not been able to find any sample code anywhere on how to do this from memory, everything seems to force the file be uploaded, saved to disk, and then read in the connection string, which again I can not do.
I need to be able to have a user upload an excel file, then immediately work with that file and save the contents in a database.
I know how to do this if I save the file first, then open it using OleDB, BUT I would rather not save it first.
I need to upload an excel file using a web application. Then I need t oread it in memory without saving it on the server.
Does the file need to have headers? Also the data is such that it may have or may not have values for some columns.
Is there a way to import an amount of data from an excel sheet using the sheet rowindex, something like: SELECT * FROM [PLAN1$] WHERE ROWINDEX BETWEEN 1 AND 1000?

View 1 RepliesWe have a web application that allows users to upload sales information in Excel format and store the information in our SQL server. The way it works is that the uploaded Excel file will be stored in a folder on the web server, the application will then open it up and read it row by row, and call a stored procedure to store each row's data. Now it is so slow that if the Excel file contains more than 75 rows of data, the application will just time out.
We have already increased the timeout limit by changing the executionTimeout to 300 seconds in the web.config file. Instead of increasing this further to wait for this slow process, I'm wondering if there are ways to speed it up. Is there a better way than calling the stored procedure row by row?
I'm exporting data to Excel. I've to put some headings, some data from datatable and again some footer text. For that I'm using following Code. It works fine locally but when I publish it it gives error while saving excel file as I'm hosting it on shared server.
Code:
'--SOME HEADERS
Dim HtmlStream As String
HtmlStream = "<html><body><br/><div style='padding:15px;font-family:Tahoma;font-size:11px;'>"
HtmlStream += "<table cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='1' style='line-height:20px; border:solid 1px;font-size:11px;' width='100%'><tr><td colspan='8' style='height:20px;'></td></tr> <tr><Td colspan='8'>"
HtmlStream += "<div style='padding-left:20px;'><b>MULTIPLE TRANSACTIONS REQUEST FORM</b><br /><b>Date -" + DateTime.Now + "</b><br /><b>Name of Applicant - ABC CO. LTD.NEFT</b><br />"
[Code] ....
It gives error while saving
I have the following code to 'save' a GridView on a page as an excel file, but it pops up a dialogue screen asking the user to view or save.

I am creating a SSIS package, where I am getting all the data into the excelsheet1, which is not formatted.
So i created a formated excelsheet2, where i am giving reference to excelsheet1 cells reference.
And I am sending email by attaching excelsheet2.
I am having issue when the data is updated, but my email attachment excel is showing old data. When i open the excelsheet1 it is being updated. I don't know why excelsheet2 is not updated automatically. I am using BIDS 2005 .
I have a gridview thats being populated from an excel file that is loaded through a fileupload control. I want to save the contents of that gridview to a table in my SQL database. I've searched the web and tried to loop through the gridview, but failed at it.

2 1/5 Feet
3 20
4 30
i read the data from this file using below code
string strFileName = FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName;
string connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "Data Source=" + strFileName + ";" + "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;";
OleDbConnection objConn = new OleDbConnection(connectionString);
objConn.Open();
String strConString = "SELECT * FROM [Product Classification 5$]";
//where date = CDate('" + DateTime.Today.ToShortDateString() + "')";
OleDbCommand objCmdSelect = new OleDbCommand(strConString, objConn);
// Create new OleDbDataAdapter that is used to build a DataSet
// based on the preceding SQL SELECT statement.
OleDbDataAdapter objAdapter1 = new OleDbDataAdapter();
// Pass the Select command to the adapter.
objAdapter1.SelectCommand = objCmdSelect;
// Create new DataSet to hold information from the worksheet.
DataSet objDataset1 = new DataSet();
objAdapter1.Fill(objDataset1, "ExcelData");
but in it doesnt read the Description data of 20 & 30 because somebody said if the first cell value is string type then all the column should be string but in mycase its coming as mixed(alpha & numeric), so that it cant read the data, i tried to convert the column as Text then also the same problem continues,

I have a scenario where I have to read an excel file to dump records in a mysql database. The code generates an exception Sheet1 not found. I have pasted the code below. Please let me know the solution to the exception. I have given the correct read/write/modify settings to my excel file.
if (fileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName.EndsWith(".xls") || fileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName.EndsWith(".XLS"))
{
string fileName = Server.MapPath(fileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName);
string connString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + fileName + ";Extended Properties=Excel 8.0";
// Create the connection object
OleDbConnection oledbConn = new OleDbConnection(connString);
try
{
// Open connection
oledbConn.Open();
// Create OleDbCommand object and select data from worksheet Sheet1
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]" , oledbConn);
// Create new OleDbDataAdapter
OleDbDataAdapter oleda = new OleDbDataAdapter();
oleda.SelectCommand = cmd;
// Create a DataSet which will hold the data extracted from the worksheet.
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
// Fill the DataSet from the data extracted from the worksheet.
oleda.Fill(ds, "RestaurantExcelData");
for (int i = 0; i < ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count; i++)
{
Response.Write("Data: " + ds.Tables[0].Rows[i].ItemArray[0].ToString() + "");
