I am creating a web form where I am uploading an Excel worksheet and the information is being inserted into a database. I am using a tutorial I found online, I am sure some of you have seen it:

My problem is that I need an Update function since the information entered will be updated on a weekly basis. I am not that experienced in ASP.NET but I know my way around things.

C# - Importing An Excel WorkSheet Into A Datatable

May 13 10 at 15:13

I have been asked to create import functionality in my application. I am getting an excel worksheet as input. The worksheet has column headers followed by data. The users want to simply select an xls file from their system, click upload and the tool deletes the table in the database and adds this new data.

I thought the best way would be too bring the data into a datatable object and do a foeach for every row in the datatable insert row by row into the db. My question is what can anyone give me code to open an excel file, know what line the data starts on in the file, and import the data into a datable object?

Populate And Save An Excel Worksheet Server Side

Mar 28, 2011, 18:10

I've been searching for various posts on Excel and ASP.Net, and wanted to try and figure out if what I'm attempting has any chance of working. I have a special Excel workbook with a worksheet that has a bunch of calculations and such for various fields that creates an order for his crew. My client uses this Excel worksheet for everything. He's asking me to be able to see online orders (which I have), click a link and have the worksheet be passed down to the client all populated and formatted exactly as is (just adding/editing data).

Is this even possible? I'd have to load this specific .xls file, then open it on the server, save data to various cells, and then do a Save As and then binarystream it down to the client. I'm quite certain there is no version of Excel loaded on the server. So I'm perplexed as to how to accomplish this. Has anyone encountered this situation before and been able to accomplish what's being asked?

How To Update MYSQL Database With Data From Excel

Mar 4 at 5:06

I have an excel file which gets updated every 10 seconds through an automated process. I need excel data to be updated in MY-SQL database which is located on a remote server.

How do I do that?

I have thought of following option:
1) Every 11 seconds, an Excel macro will run and will "Save as" excel as CSV file. (not sure whether this can be done by macro...just thinking)
2) This CSV file we will FTP to remote server using Windows Service.
3) On remote server, we will parse the csv file and Update MYSQL database.

Is this approach fine? Or do you have a better approach which requires less time to update the database?

AJAX :: Using A User Control's UpdatePanel.Update() From A Page-level Update Panel's Function Call?

Jul 14, 2010 08:30 PM

I've exempted the irrelevant bits of code. Essentially, I am trying to change the URL of an image control inside of an update panel inside of a custom user control from a function called inside an update panel from my main page. Using UpdatePanel.Update() isn't working: I end up waiting for the next full page POST to occur before all the updates I make to CustomControl from buttons within the main page's update panel are visible. I verified that Update() was being called via the debugger: there are no issues in that department.

Here, you can see Custom Control and the Button declared. The button is in an update panel to avoid giving a full POST and causing the whole page to reload.

<cust:CustomControl runat="server" ID="CustomControl1">
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="UpdatePanel1"> <ContentTemplate>
<asp:Button id="Button1" runat="server" OnClick="DoStuff" />
</ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel>

This control stores images within their own seperate update panels because rerendering the images is very slow (it requires processing arrays of millions of datapoints) and the user only ever needs to modify one image at a time. I'm using Image1 as an example.

Use The Upload Control To Upload A File To The Database?

May 19, 2009 06:36 PM

I am trying to use the upload control to upload a file to the database. It works just fine with one exception...I can't get the full pathname of the file the user selects. I browse to a folder several subfolders deep and select a file. The edit box shows the full path and filename. However, in code, I'm trying to set that value to a string variable:

string sFilename = FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName;

I've also tried:

string sFilename = FileUpload1.FileName;

Both times, my variable has only the filename, not the full path + filename. I'm running .NET 3.5 under Visual Studio 2008 on Windows Vista Ultimate. Funny thing is, it works fine on XP professional

How To Upload An Excel File

Dec 2nd, 2010, 10:41 PM

I am trying to upload an excel file and my code reads the data of excel one by one. Unfortunately as we all know that excel doesn't restrict the data type for each cells, so there is a chance and possibility that my code can catch the exceptions.

How can I do this?

Code:

try
{
// do the statement
}
catch
{
// throw the exception, log it and then proceed to the next, don't stop.
// then prompt the users of all exceptions encountered.
}

I need to process more than 1,000 rows of data from excel. I don't want every time there is an exceptions the uploading process stops and fixed the problem then re-upload the data again. I want to consolidate first all the data with issues or exceptions then deal with it later after the uploading process done.

An Export-to-Excel Function Can Be Scalable?

May 3 10 at 15:54

Summary: ASP.Net website with a couple hundred users. Data is exported to Excel files which can be relatively large (~5 MB).

In the pilot phase (just a few users), we are already seeing occasional errors on the server in the exporting method.

Here's the stack trace:

System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --->
System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown. at
System.IO.MemoryStream.set_Capacity(Int32 value) at
System.IO.MemoryStream.EnsureCapacity(Int32 value) at

Even aside from this particular problem, in general exporting to Excel requires the instantiation of huge Excel objects on the server for each request, which I've always assumed to mean disqualifies Excel for "serious" work on a highly-loaded server. Is there any general way to export to Excel in a "light-weight" manner? Would simply streaming the data into a CSV file work for this?

ADO.NET :: Option For User To Upload Excel File?

Feb 03, 2011 09:12 AM

I've an application built on asp.net 2.0. There is an option for user to upload excel file. Once the file has been uploaded the data in the file is validated against some business rules. Rows that successfully validates are inserted into database as soon as it is validated.

I use ado.net to connect to excel file. And use data reader to iterate over all the records. Normally the number of records range from 5,000 to 20,000. This process takes good 8 to 10 minutes. I want to optimize this process because to my understanding it takes too long. Currently I am looking at OPENROWSET, OpenDataSource which so far is unsuccessful. Valiation that takes place on every row is very simple. I only checks for maximum length. So validation itself is not an issue.

Upload Excel File Crashes The Website?

Actually I have Problem regarding Excel file upload in ASP.NET 2.0. Here I am uploading .CSV file on the server using File Upload. then we are reading the file and storing its data into the database(SQL database).

It works fine on test server but the same code on the production server crashes the website for long time.

Excel.XlPlatform.xlWindows, " ", false, false, 0, true, 1, 0);
Excel.Worksheet workSheet = (Excel.Worksheet)workBook.ActiveSheet;
Excel.Range range = workSheet.get_Range("A1".ToString(),"A1".ToString());
String myvalues = Convert.ToString(range.Cells.Value2);
String[] moduleList = myvalues.Split(',');
range = workSheet.get_Range("A" + i.ToString(),"A" + i.ToString());
String myvalues2 = Convert.ToString(range.Cells.Value2);
string[,] strClient = new string[800, 2];
int n = 0;
while (myvalues2 != "" && myvalues2 != null && myvalues2 != " ")
{
range = workSheet.get_Range("A" + i.ToString(),"A" + i.ToString());
myvalues2 = Convert.ToString(range.Cells.Value2); //gets the entire "RECORD" of the student
