i need to restore Database.mdf; I create a blank new database exactly the same name as the .mdf file. However, I could not restore the database.
The error message prompted was:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
(Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Cannot open backup device 'C:inetpubwwwrootTCPSystemApp_DataDatabase.mdf'. Operating system error 32(error not found).
RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3201)

I am working on a 3-tier asp.net application. Currently I'm stuck up in a situation where I need to handle a specific type of exception (User Defined) in DAL and Show alert to the user if that exception occurs in DAL.
I tried following things:
1) I raised that exception from the DAL and catch it in BLL and throw a new BLL exception to for that DAL exception and finally catch it in the UI layer to show the alert to the user. I've successfully implement this in my project. But there are some issues in this approach. First of all I feel this is not right way to do this as it may lead to performance related issues. Secondly, the application contains more than 500 pages and classes. so I need to attach additional catch block in every method to catch the BLL exception. which is the last option i'd like to take.
2) in second approach I logged the the DAL exception into a text file. but problem in this approach is that how could the UI layer know that exception has occurred and show the alert to the user. Is there any event in asp.net where i could handle all this activities?
my question is what is the best approach to handle this type of situation? Will Exception handling block help me in this?
I've tried reading many articles on this but i couldn't get an answer for my question? I might not be using right keywords for my search.
In ASP.NET,How can i know the Specific details about an exception (like What kind of Exception it is (FileNotFound /Arithmentc etc..) )from a General Exception class object.
View 2 Repliesi have this application structure:
1. Presentation Layer which calls
2. Business Logic Layer which in turn calls
3. Data Access Layer to do the dealing with the database.
Now i have a Contacts page from where i can add a new contact to the database.So to add a New Contact i fill in all the required details and then call a Add Method (residing in the BLL) from the page, which in turn call a Add Method residing in the DAL.this method in the DAL returns the Current Identity of the record which is then return back to the BLL method and finally delivered on the page.this is fine. but what if a get an exception how do i handle it properly because the method in DAL has a return type of int and i dont want to throw another error!! coz other wise i will have to write try catch in almost all the methods.
//something like this
public int AddMethod(ContactClass contactObj)
{
int result = 0;[code]...
rather i want to show the user a user-friendly message which they can easily understand and in the mean while i will send a mail to myself documenting the Error that just occurred.how can i implement my custom exception classes.
I understand that the http handlers process request but this is just theory as I don't understand it. Many 3rd party controls require adding a http handler in web.config. And sometimes we are required to create our own class with ProcessRequest method that implements IHttpHandler interface but I am confused to understand where Http handler fits in and what their roles are?
View 2 RepliesIs there any way to uniquely identify a particular exception from the general exception class.
i.e any property or method that retrieves a unique identifier that to identify a particular exception.
I have kept some error values and corresponding error texts in an xml file. I want to read that xml file and have to taken the error ids and fix the corresponding texts to a label. in the case of a system exception we have to identify a particular exception.
Difference between Exception and Fault Exception..?
Can i use Fault Exception when i get the Exception.
We're getting this InternalSubStringWithChecks exception with our application's healthMonitoring. This exception is like the Padding is invalid and cannot be removed exception where it's being recorded and we're getting a notification email but the end user is unaware that an actual error has happened. Though we don't want our event log filled up with this rubbish! The stack trace is:
Parameter name: length
at System.String.InternalSubStringWithChecks(Int32 startIndex, Int32 length, Boolean fAlwaysCopy)
at System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest

1.
{

Button b = new Button();
b.Click += new RoutedEventHandler(b_Click);
}
void b_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { //do stuff...... }
2.
{

Button b = new Button();
b.Click += a_Click;
}
void a_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { //do stuff...... }
I'm curious about the pros and cons when subscribing to event handlers.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to get a captcha web control to display, but it isn't going into the HttpHandler that I created. This isn't my project and it is quite big so I'm not sure what is going on. Is there any tools or techniques to see which handler is being called.
View 4 RepliesI have a bit confusion about the Http Handlers,Generic Handlers and the usage of those two.
View 1 RepliesI've been programming ASP.NET for a number of years and have got into the habit of using the public access modifier when writing event handlers for nested controls. e.g.
LinkButton ln = new LinkButton();
ln.Click += new EventHandler(LinkClick);
....
public void LinkClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
I think I started using public because I ran into errors when using other modifiers. Is this the correct one to use here? Does it depend whether you're writing a Page / UserControl / other?
How to remove all endRequest handlers in PageRequestManager?
View 1 RepliesI need to dynamically instantiate a web application from a console application. By this definition, I mean that my console application contains a web application that is not bound to IIS/XSP.Currently, I create the web application into a temporary directory and copy some forged files into it. These are a special Global.asax that maps to my own implementation of HttpApplication to use in the web application (I need to do some initialization at app start), then I forge special .asmx files that map to my own skeleton classes and dynamic plugins
foreach (IPlugin plugin in _target.Plugins)
{
WsdlSkeletonDefinition[] defs = plugin.GetWsdlSkeletons();
My approach works, but I'm not so satisfied by it because I have to write lots of garbage into file system, even if I eventually delete it all.I know I can control HTTP handlers via Web.config, but I don't want to forge a Web.config for that. I would like to create a mapping such as I can remove the .asmx extension from web services' URLs and still get them.For example, one of the default scripts is "LogbusManagement.asmx", which must be hard-coded into client APIs and the .asmx prevents portability to other platforms such as PHP. I want to make "LogbusManagement.asmx" equivalent to "LogbusManagement" and any extension. For this, I might use an HttpHandlerFactory.
My straight question is,like asked here by somebody else: is there a way to programmatically, possibly from Global.asax, to set IHttpHandlers or IHttpHandlerFactories for web applications?
I have added two handlers in Web config under the System.Server for work to IIS7, but i got this error
<system.webServer>
<validation validateIntegratedModeConfiguration="false" />
<staticContent>
<clientCache httpExpires="Sun, 29 Mar 2020 00:00:00 GMT" cacheControlMode="UseExpires" />

It is good experience by reading posts/discussions so im asp.net programmer i need the knowledge of how to work with http handlers? Where can we use them and what are exact scenarios in our requirement?
View 1 RepliesI have created a dynamic signature for our members in Asp.net 2.0 with VB code behind that they can use as a signature in various message boards using an http handler.This is the first time I have evered used a http handler and I am probably missing a step on how to use it.The direct url to the signature is:
[URL]where the ID is a particular member. This works fine on most message boards and if you copy the link directly in a browser window, but not in other message boards.In order for this signature to work on all message boards, the url syntax would need to be as follows:[URL] or something similar where the URL does not have question marks, equal signs and the file name ends in .png .How can I go about doing this where the link will go to my http handler and overlay text, etc.
am new to http handler concept and havent worked on it.What is http handlers and what is use of it??

View 1 RepliesI have have two radio button lists that need to be mutally exculisve, i.e when one is clicked the other one neesd to be cleared, my further problem is beause they are in a formview I had to add handlers to clear all the controls in the other list when the one is clicked and vice versa. here is the code below Now the code works but one of the testers found that if you click back and forth around twenty times you get the above java error:
Exception message: Maximum request length exceeded
my though here is the handler is being added to many times ? but even if I remove the handler after the process is complete I still get the same error.
