Forms Data Controls :: DropDownList Control In A LoginView Control?

Nov 15, 2010

I've put a DropDownList control within a LoginView control. I've got 2 SqlDataSource controls outside of the LoginView control, with the intent of databinding the items that comprise the ListItems of the DropDownList control, and another one for the data is stored in another table which has what was previously saved for the selection. However, when I've assign the SqlDataSource control to the DropDownList control's DataSourceID for the lookup table, I'm used to seeing the fields from the SqlDataSource control appearing in the DataTextField and DataValueField properties. However, they're not appearing there at all. Moreover, even when I try to type them in, its as if VS 2010 refuses to allow them.

Web Forms :: Accessing Password Recovery Control Within A LoginView Control?

Oct 25, 2010

I have a LoginView control that contains a PasswordRecovery control. Upon page_load I don't want this to be visible. When the user clicks a hyperlink button ("forgot password?" type of button), then it'll be made visible.

But I'm having a hard time making the password recovery control invisible at runtime. Here is my page_load function:

[Code]....

It is the only password recovery control in the LoginView control, so I don't understand why this isn't working. The password recovery control is still visible when the page loads in my browser.

Security :: Login Control Inside A LoginView Control?

May 17, 2010

I have a image CAPTCHA script (downloaded from the web) that I am placing inside a Login control. I have also place that Login control inside the annonymous template of a LoginView control.

When I try to do the image verification the text box to verify keeps coming up Null and gives me an " NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error.

I have the same control working inside the CreateUserWizard control so I am not sure what's wrong.

[code]....

I have tried variations for the LoginView1.FindControl("txtVerify"); but this is the only one I have been able to use with Intellisense that does not cause a build error.

Now that some of the Security matrix has been approved and site is somewhat more functional. We are going back thru adding the loginview to the pages that need it so we can control who can adn can't see the pages and data.

To keep it simple, here is what i have setup.. Because if this setup, i cant access my controls and the page wont display either template. Now even though the aspx code below is a very stripped down version of what i have, the code behind has references to controls that dont show in my example, but they are there in my actual page. I tried to get the LoginName control inside LoginView LoggedIn template , despite several methods, the code still could not work.

I wished to change the default username to the customer name.

Here is the code:

<asp:LoginView ID="LoginView1" runat="server">

At the code behind :

Forms Data Controls :: Understanding Dropdownlist Within A Repeater Control

Sep 26, 2010

Asp.net 3.5 using code behind I am using a repeater control. My datasource appears in code behind. I decided to NOT have my listitems populate from the database. I want the user to select a value, send it to the database via an update statement, and then when the user returns to the page (on pageload), have the user's previous selections appear on the screen. note the following:

When I use textboxes and labels, ALL of my data appears within the table of the repeater control. However, when I replaced one of the text boxes (originally used for testing purposes only) with a dropdownlist, I get the following error message'ddlDDuring' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.Parameter name: value My Repeater1_ItemCommandI updates the data within the repeater perfectly. On page load, I want the data from the database to display as the dropdownlist's selected value (or selected item.text). Here is my Asp code

<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server"
onitemcommand="Repeater1_ItemCommand">
---
<
td><asp:Dropdownlist ID="ddlDDuring" runat=server SelectedValue ='<%#Bind("DueDuring")%>' >
<asp:ListItem Value="-select-" Text="-select-" />
<asp:ListItem Value="1st half" Text="1st half" />
<asp:ListItem Value="2nd half" Text="2nd half" />
<asp:ListItem Value="Split" Text="Split" />
</asp:Dropdownlist> </td>
---
C# code behind
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!Page.IsPostBack)
{
---
string myConnectString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
myConnection = new SqlConnection(myConnectString);
strSelect = "SELECT * FROM UserExpenses WHERE UserId=@UserId";
mySqlCmd = new SqlCommand(strSelect, myConnection);
myConnection.Open();
mySqlCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserId", LoggedOnUserId);
myReader = mySqlCmd.ExecuteReader();
Repeater1.DataSource = myReader;
Repeater1.DataBind();
myReader.Close();
myReader = mySqlCmd.ExecuteReader();
while (myReader.Read())
{
ExpAmount = Convert.ToDouble(myReader["Amount"]);
TotExp += ExpAmount;
---

I tried the following code changes on asp page: I changed "SelectedValue" to "Text" and still get the same error message I changed "SelectedValue" to "SelectedItem" and don't get the error message, but dropdown is not populated I set AppendDataBoundItems = true Set first list item value = "" Verified that every field in the table column matched the items in the dropdown list. There were NO null fields in the database.

I just want to understand this error message, as I have exhausted all that I am doing. I also made an attempt to bind the dropdown list, but sine this can only be done within the loop of finding the repeater control, I would either get an error message, or it just would not work.

Forms Data Controls :: DropDownList Control Says Null Value On Insert?

Jan 13, 2011

here is my latest bit of insanity. I'm using a formview control. In the insert template, I'm grabbing applicable values from my AD to populate a dropdown list. I select the user I want to insert, enter the other pieces of info required for my request and click Insert. The query responds back stating that the userid is NULL. So the big question in my mind is how can I bind userid to the dropdownlist if I'm populating that from the code behind? Here's my code behind code for that list:

Forms Data Controls :: Dropdownlist - - Loading Based On Another Control And Databinding It?

Dec 23, 2010

Bringing back to life an old post that I dont believe ever got solved: http://forums.asp.net/t/1562245.aspxThis may be an old thread .... but no answer was ever given ... and I too have a radio button list and DDL and am stuck in the EXACT same place. If I check one of the two data bound radio buttons, the DDL should repopulate with a different set of results. This works just fine EXCEPT .... the DDL cannot be databound. If I set SELECTEDVALUE of the control to a bind I get this error:Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.I have followed the advice on this page from various users, all to no avail....surely this can be done, and I assume quite simply. Anyone know the answer?
