Forms Data Controls :: Error Binding A DropDownList Inside DeatilsView?
Apr 9, 2010
I am having problem to do a 2 way binding with DropDownList inside DetailsView, my markup declaration is:
[Code]....
But I am getting the following error messages on the line ddlCategoryId.DataBind(): ArgumentOutOfRangeException: 'ddlCategoryId' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items.sometimes I get different error: InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.]

Two ddl inside gridview. on selecting first ddl1 fill next ddl2 by passing selected value as parameter by executing the sqldatasource select command in codebehind.code:
GridViewRow gr = (GridViewRow)((DataControlFieldCell)((DropDownList)sender).Parent).Parent; //find the control in that DropDownList d1 = (DropDownList)gr.FindControl(ddl1); DropDownList d2 = (DropDownList)gr.FindControl(ddl2); SqliaDataSource.SelectParameters.Add("@name", d1.SelectedItem.Text.ToString()); dataView dv=(dataview) SqliaDataSource.select(DataSourceSelectArguments .Empty);
Error: There is no source code available for the current location. and Returns null value

I am using a dropdown list in gridview and populating it from database.However ,i am getting "object reference not set to an instance ..." error even though i have reference.I have two more similar drop down list and they are working perfectly.
I am uploading the options for the dropdownlist from a "tab delimited" text file for all the dropdown list.I am not getting where exactly the problem is.

I have the following (abbreviated) code:
<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server" DataKeyNames="ItemID" DataSourceID="LinqDataSource1">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategory" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Eval("Category") %>'
DataSource="<%# GetCategories() %>" DataTextField="Text" DataValueField="Value" />
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:ListView ID="lvParticipants" runat="server" DataSource='<%# Eval("Participants") %>' >
<InsertItemTemplate>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCountry" runat="server" SelectedValue='<%# Eval("Country") %>'
DataSource="<%# GetCountries() %>" DataTextField="Text" DataValueField="Value" />
</InsertItemTemplate>
</asp:ListView>
<ItemTemplate>
</asp:FormView>
When the FormView is in Edit mode, ddlCategory is populated as expected by calling GetCategories(), which returns a List of categories. However, when the ListView is in Insert mode, ddlCountry is empty. I put a break point in GetCountries(), but it never gets called. If I change the name of the method, I get an error. So it recognizes the method at compile time, but does not call it at run time. I'm guessing this is an embedded binding issue of some kind, but I'm hoping someone can save me a lot of time by pointing out the solution.

I have a listview that is showing its result by using a linq query. The linq query goes like this.
[Code]....
* db.Varer: Varer is a table that contains basic product information like proudct name, product nr. etc. ** a.fk_kategori_id == CatParamId : I'm just saying limit the result according to the Category ID (a.fk_kategori_id). The category id is coming from a dropdownlist (CatParamID) *** Join: Besides the Varer (Product) table I also have another table, Sizes. This Sizes table contains 6 columns (ID_Sizes (int) primary key and the columns: OneSize, S, M, L, XL, XXL all are bit (true or false)). There is a relationship between Varer table and Sizes table. It says that I can only insert a value into the "fk_sizes_id - column" of varer table if that value already exists as primary key within the Sizes table. **** I'm starting by picking basic product values like productId, ProductName etc from the Varer (a) table ***** Then I'm picking the corresponding Sizes values (onesize, s, m, ...) from the Sizes table. Now within my ListView I'm showing the above result by using Eval, like this.
[Code]....
And this works perfectly, but now comes the thing that is causing me trouble. I have the below drop down list (still within the ListView ItemTemplate):
[Code]....
I want this drop down list to be populated with only those of the "linq query's Sizes table result" that are true. By "Sizes table result" I mean these

When the function executes

I have two tables. t1 and t2
t1 is related to t2 through Order Numbers
these order numbers in table t2 have many part numbers(and hence the need for a second table t2)
I can display t1 using gridview just fine
In that same gridview iI have added a template column containing a dropdownlist(to show partnumbers)
now how can I bind this dropdownlist to the order number so that when the page is loaded the user can click on the dropdownlist to see all the partnumbers associated with that order number.

I have a gridview where I can browse an user's information. Through the gridview I'm also able to edit some of this information. A recent change in my client's needs demands that one of these fields is now a DropDownList. This field represents a user's "schedule" (not literally a schedule but works like one), and the different schedule options to be assigned to a user are shown in the drop down list.
Problem: In the drop down list I want to show list items like "9-12 15-17", "10-14 15-18" so that it is easy for the administrator to tell which schedule he's assigning to an user. However, that shouldn't be their actual value. I need "9-12 15-17" to actually be '1' since this is the schedule ID that I'm trying to pass on to the DB.
Here's what I have so far:
[Code]....
And with this last method I change the selected item's value to the Index. Meaning that if I select "9-12 15-17" which has an Index of 1 in the dropDownList, the actual value is now 1. Again, this is the behavior I expect. My experience with ASP is quite little as I'm new on this, but as far as I know, this only actually updates the string array. How would I go about modifying this to reflect my updates on the database? All input is taken into account.

I'm having trouble binding my textbox to my dropdownlist. I got it to work but I don't think it is the correct way of doing it. I have my DDL bound to a datasource and populating everything correctly. However, I couldn't find a better way of binding my textbox to it besides using the FormView control and its counterpart, Templates (edit,insert,etc) It looks messy and i was hoping there was a better way of doing it. I've researched it online for awhile now but I couldn't understand how to implement for my situation.
My DDL has company names in it and the datasource has all the information from the table including what I'm trying to have my textbox pull (Address).

I have a label inside a formview that is not bound to anything.
Lets say I have a table of customers (with a key field called CustomerID), and then another table that has all their orders (with amount spent per order (OrderID) - based on CustomerID)
On the FormView there is a key field (CustomerID) (this is to be used as an INPUT parameter to a SP - which is to return the SUM of all the customers (Order_Totals). I could nest a view within a view I suppose to get this result, however, I just want a label to simply show this ScalarValue.
Basically, I want the label to show the aggregate (SUM) total amount each customer has spent on all orders. I have a SP called SumCost with two Fields (one a grouped by field CustomerID and the other a Summed Total of each customer's orders SumCost)
SELECT [SumCost] FROM [SumCost] WHERE ([CustomerID] = @CustomerID)
I test my SP and it works great, returning the value based on CustomerID - no problem.
My problem is getting the CustomerID passed into the SP on runtime (do I put it in FormView2_Databound) and putting the value into the label (CustTotalLbl) which is inside this form.

I have a gridview that displays query results on a reporting page for a "home-grown" CRM application. From the gridview, a link can be clicked which opens a modal window that contains an iframe linked to a "details" page where record specific info can be viewed/altered. On the details page there are 10 or so dropdownlists (ddls) that are bound every time the page is called. The ddls are bound using a method similar to the example below. I am looking for a way top speed things up a bit. The details page could be called 10-20 times in one session and every time the page loads these ddls have to be bound from the same methods but for different records. What are some options for speeding up the load time for this page??
