I have a gridview with daatsource from MembershipUserCollection. When my collection doesn't contain any records the gridview just disappears. I want to display the empty gridview indicating no records exist rather than the grid just become invisible.
How to make gridview always visible ?
i am working on a website,As i am new to coding i got a problem in it. It was,I hav a gridview in which i am adding the details about a college, and in that i had a buton ("btnReservation") on clicking it another grid will be appeared in which, i hav to enter the reservation details so, till this step it is working fine, but if i enter one college details and clicking on the btnReservetion the grid is being dispalyed and i am able to enter and save the data, But if i enter the details of another college and clicking on the btnReservation, the rows which i hav already entered in the Reservation grid for the previous record are not being Refreshed and are remaining the same,So now i hav to make the gridview datasource null.

I am tryting to reach controls in the gridview rows by RowCommand event. I can take values of controls which are binded to gridview source successfully . But for all other controls which is not binded to gridview returns NULL value. All controls run at server. Why is that?
View 7 RepliesI have a list of objects that I want to bind to a gridview. Creating that list and binding it works fine for most of the public properties in that list.
There are some objects contained in each of those objects... for instance there is an Address object.

When I bind this to my gridview, I have no issues with stuff like object.DateRegistered, but how can I access things like object.Address.WhatEverProperty? I always get this error:
"A field or property with the name 'xxx.xxxx' was not found on the selected data source."
I have a gridview where in the users are allowed to edit certain data and there is an update on top of the page which will send out all the changes made inside the GridView. But, the problem is , as soon as the update button is clicked, the grid disappearsand no update is made. This problem occurs when the size of the data on the page is huge. When we have less amount of data on the gridview, It does update. But, when there is a huge amount of data on the gridview, it does not. We have tried to increase the page size on the server, but to no use.

I use Server.Transfer("pagename", True) to navigate from a page where two dates have been selected to a page with a gridview that uses the dates to query the database and display the results. The gridview initially displays correctly but when I operate the select or sort it disappears.
View 8 RepliesI've got a Gridview in which I use the RowDataBound handler to color the lines according to certain conditions
(ie if column x is value y then change the background-color of the row to z etc).
One problem though, as soon as I do a postback the coloring disappears altogether and all rows become white.
Is there some way around this so I can retain my background colors even after a postback?
I am populating a column in a gridview with a dropdownlist as follows:

When I edit the gridrow, the dropdown is there and I can select a new item.
But I can't find the dropdown during the rowupdated event. The cell control says it's a Textbox. All of the other items in the row are fine and I can get the data back. But I can't get the DropDown item.
Here are some of the things I have tried in the RowUpdating event:

I have a datarepeater inside which I load a gridview. After the grid's binding is done I create an extra header line to group the columns (that's the only way I could do it, I couldn't figure a way to add an event for a control inside the repeater).That works fine and the page displays perfectly.However everytime I do a postback from other controls, I lose the 2nd header and 1 extra empty line appears at the top of the gridview
View 5 Replieshave an ASP.net 4.0 page containing a GridView, where during the Page_Init event I'm dynamically adding BoundField columns to the gridview. I also have some custom sorting and paging methods that I use with this gridview, which result in postbacks on the page. In Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Opera the gridview behaves as expected. HOWEVER, in IE 6, 7, or 8 when I click to sort a column in the gridview, or go to the next page of results in the gridview, it does not bind on postback, returning nothing back to the browser. Again, in anything but Internet Explorer, paging and sorting (frankly any postback event) brings back the gridview in its expected state. I only have the problem in IE. Relevant snippets of my code follow, where you'll see my Page_Init event calling a method in my WebFunctions class to add the BoundField columns for the table I pass to it, and my Page_Load event that calls the method in the user control responsible for binding my dataset to the gridview. Initial page load works in all browsers, but postback loading of the gridview only works in non-IE browsers.

I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
This is my code and i am only able to edit the one data under the category school.But what i nd is to edit the other categories like the name,email...etc..how do i modify my code in the update command.Another thing is to delete the data how do i do that?

I have a page with a TextBox, a Button, a GridView, and a SqlDataSource. I click the Button to execute the SQL in the TextBox using the SqlDataSource. The SqlDataSource populates the GridView. Everything works as expected until I click a column heading to sort.
When I click a column heading, the GridView disappears and I have to click the Button to display the grid again. When I do, the grid is displayed in the order of the column I clicked.
I don't understand why the GridView is disappearing when I click a column header.
Does anyone know how to fix this so the GridView is sorted and displayed only by clicking the column header?

I have a drop down box in this edit template so that you can select a value from it and then when you hit 'Update' the value from the drop down box is committed to the updated record. Unfortunately when I do hit the update button I get a fault that the "Status" field cannot be null.
Here is the code that picks the value from the drop down value and assigns it to the new values list:

I'm using a GridView to output some information regarding an account, specifically account balances. Problem is, if there is no balance linked to the account, I need for the grid to simply display 0 for each column. EmptyDataText isn't sufficient as the columns still need to be listed, but just have the value 0.
After researching it seems like I will need to add a dummy row to the gridview if it is empty, but how do I do this using C# and ASP? Quick note as well, not sure if it's relevant but the grid will only ever contain one row.
I have the web page that meet the problem. There exists a gridview and filtering. When Select all by using function A, it is OK. when Filter by using function B, it cannot filter and return no rows. When Select all again, it is OK. I have tested that function B can return the corrected filtered rows. But when databind in the web page, it cannot show and no error?

I have a gridview in a user control which I'm using to display a list of items. The data source is a list of objects (not using ObjectDataSource). I have paging enabled on my gridView. The trouble is that I am forced to rebind my grid in my paging method, otherwise the grid loses all it's data when a user clicks a page button. Is there a good way of binding to an enumerable list such that the values are reused on postback?
