Forms Data Controls :: Rendering A Gridview To String?
Jan 8, 2010
Im trying to render a gridview control to a string as part of a confirmation email to be sent to a customer. When I try to render it, I get an exception.
ex = {"Control 'OrderLineItems1_gridOrder' of type 'GridView' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server."}
The code which is attempting to render the control is
[Code]....
The RenderControl() raises the aforementioned exception. Has anyone succeeded in doing something similar.

I am having an issue with the gridview in ASP.NET. Everything works well when running from IDE in both debug and without debug. When I publish to IIS I have a gridview that I use in two places. It works fine in one place but not the other. In one instance I am using an IFRAME tag to display the page that uses this data grid. When I first load it it works fine, I can click on a row. But after clicking on that row after the first postback, I can no longer get it to postback again on future clicks. I used firefly and after clicking the first time on the grid, the tags for the table are not rendered though I can clearly see the grid. Confused... Here is the rendered code before clicking on it using firefly. (oh yea, this gridview is also inside of an updatePanel) (In the below I replaced actual data with xxxx)
[Code]....
Below is the code after clicking on the grid.
<div id="UpdatePanel1">
<div style="background-color: white; width: 818px; height: 405px; overflow: auto" onscroll="GetScroll()" id="divFill">
<div style="padding-bottom: 5px; background-color: buttonface; width: 818px; height: 20px; padding-top: 5px" id="NavFoot" align="right">
</div>
Also, if I did not provide enough information let me know.

What I want to do is to replace number with a name. So if in the Month Column it receives five "1" it changes those 5 "1" to JANUARY.
Is it possible? This is because unfortunately I can only arrange my months by number and not by their name, this because of my queries and tables format, so, I thought maybe I can tell the gridview to change the month number to their relative month name.

I have a table that shows datas from a SQL DB. Some of those datas is numeric ( 1,2,3) and in another table I got the name that represents each number.
ex:
1= Goalie
2= Defence
So I did a Class_filters, in which I associate the number to the right string data.
I was wondering how can I do that in GridView? Is it possible?

I'm trying to render a partial view as a string so it can be returned as HTML to a jquery ajax call. After a lot of searching I found this code.
public string RenderAsString(string viewName, string modelName, object model)
{
// Set up your spark engine goodness.
var settings = new SparkSettings().SetPageBaseType(typeof(SparkView));
var templates = new FileSystemViewFolder(Server.MapPath("~/Views"));
var engine = new SparkViewEngine(settings) { ViewFolder = templates };.......

I have a gridview that is built using a objectdatasource and set to autogenerate the columns based on that source, on some other pages i have a gridview that is built within the page with template fields and so on..
in that gridview i have a field that displays the time value like so
<asp:Label
ID="lblstartDate"
runat="server"
Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"startDate", "{0:t}") %>'
/>
How can i apply the same formatting to my time column that is being displayed on the page that uses the autogenerated columns?
I tried to handle in SQL, but only returned the value like this : 03:11:00 and i would like to see it like this : 3:11 AM

I can't seem to change the format from 77.77980986554 to 77.80% in one of the footer columns.
I tried
GVreporteventas.FooterRow.Cells[3].Text = String.Format("{0:D2}%",((tva / tvo) * 100).ToString());
Did not work, the point is that no matter what format I give it, it always returned like 77.77980986554
No matter if I try currency format or other formats, so obviously is not even formatting the string or something.

I am building a command line application and I need to transform data within my application's classes to text.
It would make my life easy if I could use ASPX files to render my data into the target text format.
To achieve that, I need to be able to render an aspx file outside IIS. The following article explains how:
[URL]
The article is developed in 2003.
Is there any better way to so achieve similar result in .NET 4.0? Does MVC make this easier? Is this very memory/performance intensive? I have to create a new ApplicationHost anytime my command line application is executed. Is this approach reliable enough to be used in an environment with high throughput?

i need to concatenate the gridview rows to a single string if the gridview count is more than 100 then i need to perform the concatenation as 100 comma seperated and the next has to be carried over to the next string say if the count of gridview is 1000 then i need to concatenate the string as string1= 1to 100(Ex: a,b,c....) then string2=101-200 string3= 201-300... and so on. in case if i had to use String builder for this.. tel me how to proceed with this.

I'm rewriting my website in aspx to pull text from a SQl server and pop it up in a modal. I have everything working fine, but when I was using plain asp and HTML tables, I was able to format some of the text in the database using HTML tags, and they would render to screen. Is there anyway to do the same thing when using the following:
<asp:table>
<asp:tablerow>
<asp:TableCell> [code]..

I have several datalist controls inside a panel control.
When I do a databind on the "movie" datalist, data is populated. I can see during the debugging on the aspx page that it goes into the label controls and binds the data.
When I do a databind on the "alacarte" datalist, the data isn't populated even though before doing the databind I validate that there is a record inside the generic collection that I use for each separate type of datalist. When the databind occurs, it goes thru the alacarte datalist and does the databinding to the fields, but when the page renders, it doesn't produce any output inside this datalist.
The code behind below is the databinding for the movie datalist.
DataList grdMovies = ShoppingCart1.FindControl("grdMovies") as DataList;
grdMovies.DataSource = lstMovies;
grdMovies.DataBind();
The code behind below is the databinding for the alacarte datalist. I verified that there is a record inside the lstAlacarte collection with the same field names that are in the html for the alacarte section during the databinding.
DataList grdCartAlaCartePgming = ShoppingCart1.FindControl("grdCartAlacartePgming") as DataList;
grdCartAlaCartePgming.DataSource = lstAlacarte;
grdCartAlaCartePgming.DataBind();
Below is the html on the aspx page for the above controls. I included all of the html so as to see if there is anything I'm doing wrong. I even placed the words "desc" and "price" to see if that would render and it did not.
<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="ShoppingCart.ascx.cs"
Inherits="DishRedesignClient.ShoppingCart" %>
<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="cc1" %>
<asp:Panel ID="pnlShoppingCart" runat="server" Height="400px" Width="300px"
[Code]....
