I have a gridview that populates from a sqlDataSource I added a textBox and a button to input company name in a textBox and click the button to search. Once the row with company is found I want to update it, but when I click update in this row, the gridview displays all of the rows, and instead of the one fromthe search results, the first row at the top is displayed in update template.The GridView first is populated from a static sqlDataSource (EditDistributor), that displays all of the columns in a table.

Bug: UPDATE command Does NOT Work as Expected on a DataBound GridView This was tested in VS2005 and VS2008
Took a while to figure this out - A simple recurse thru Page Controls Makes UPDATE Not Work as expected.
To Recreate this bug:
A simple Gridview bound to an Objectdatasource on a page with ALLOWEDIT ALLOWDELETE
If one inserts some code (a function call in my example) that just recurses the PAGE controls in either the PAGE_PREINIT, PAGE_INIT, PAGE_INITCOMPLETE events,
Then the UPDATE does not FIRE! and After Pressing UPDATE the GRID does not BIND! You Get A Blank Page - Funny thing tought it's only the UPDATE Functionality that gets affected by this - Everything else works fine including EDIT & DELETE.
If the same function call (recurse thru page controls) is added in the PAGE_PRELOAD, PAGE_LOAD -- Then the UPDATE starts working again as expected.
BELOW Is SAMPLE Code using the NORTHWIND DB Products Table and a Typed DATASET.XSD - You can use your own datasource for the ObjectDatasource - (Note I took out the Foreingkey constraint in products table from Nortwind for delete to work)
NOTE: One should be able to just cut and paste the function PAGECONTROLS_RECURSETEST on any working form that has a bound Gridview with Update functionality and you should be able recreate the bug that way by calling the function from the different page_events

I'm struck at editing the row which is displayed after search operation being performed. I've a table that has User_ID, Name, Status. I would like to bind data and display in gridview. I've implemented a search box to search fr the name and edit the status of the person. But if I'm trying to implement edit option on the searched entry it is not working as how I needed .

I made a usercontrol consisting of an AJAX tab control, a textbox, and a gridview. The gridview is pulling data from a SQL database. When the gridview is outside of the tab control and I begin to enter text into the textbox, quicksearch begins to filter the information in the gridview. When i put the gridview and textbox inside an AJAX tab control quicksearch does not work. How do i need to structure the textbox and the gridview on an ajax update panel to get it to work?

I put a sql statement into the textbox,then the result will be bound to the gridview in the page. first time,sql statement is "selecte * from A(B)",and the gridview is ok. second time,sql statement is "selecte * from B(A)",then the gridview will throw a exception the exception is "A field or property with the name 'aa' was not found on the selected data source. i have two tables A and B."

I want to update multiple rows of gridview (only price field. for that i have added textbox) on click of update button which is outside of gridview.I have done following way

i know it seems like i have asked this question before in my previous post but does any one know how to find a control in a gridview but it must be done in the SelectedIndexChanged event ....the previous method i was given only seems to work in the onRowBound method...If possible is their a way you can determine which button was click since i have more then one button in my gridview

I have created a website that has some gridview controls that call stored procedures in a SQL db and display the results of the procedures. Two of the gridview controls have sorting enabled, and one has pagination enabled.
The site loads for all users who have tried it so far.
However, one user gets a "webpage not found" (HTTP 400 Bad request) error whenever they click on the pagination links or sorting links on the gridview control. It seems like it's not a security issue because the website runs as a user with permission to the database.

I am binding SQL data to a GridView. The GridView's DataKeyNames property is set to the SQL column called "utID"
I know that within the SQL results, some of the utID values are NULL. After databinding to the GridView, I need to enumerate through the GridViewRows an read the DataKey values. However, when I try this I get the following error:
No default member found for type 'DBNull'. I am using the code below.
What object types are stored within DataKeys (I thought it was just integers or strings)
How to handle a NULL datakey value to prevent this error occurring?
I don't want to use Try Catch because it's too much of a 'hack'

Now, I would like to be able to highlight the keywords in my gridview table. I searched around on the Internet and found a lot of samples, but they are all related to the Gridview <templates>, however, I am using <BoundField> and sqlDataSource.
I just cound not figure out how can I add this highlight function to my current search function?

In a webpage in my project there is one textbox and a gridview.

I have configured a datasource for gridview1 to execute a Stored Procedure on a SQL Server Database passing a parameter with the value from textbox1.
My question is, how do I code the button1 Click Event to populate the GridView1?
GridView1 already has the datasource configured, I just need to trigger it via the button1 Click Event.
