Forms Data Controls :: Hide Nested Gridview Once A New Record Is Selected?

I have got a test page setup trying to figure out and learn how to nest gridview.. i finally have a working configuration,but my issue now is that if i select a record from my gridview,the nested gridview opens as expected.But when i select another record from the list in the parent gridview the first selection i made stays open and as i pick more and more, all the nested gridviews stay open.Is there something i can do within my
GridView1_SelectedIndexChanging event to hide the previous gridview and display only the selected row gridview?

In Nested Grid, we get a '+' sign. The problem is that '+' sign appears all times, even if there are no child records for that row. 1. Can we enable/disable OR Hide/Unhide '+' sign. depending on if child rows exits.2. OR alteast we can put some bgcolor indicating to user that this record do have child rows. Without any indicator user may feel quite annoying to click on '+' sign and nothing happens.

i have design a web application having suppliers table using SqlDatasource..
i have a master page in my design and other form are bound to a context menu..
Now i have displayed the records in the gridview..all i wanted is after i select a record in the gridview it will display the selected record in detailview from another aspx form..
i was able to create the link to another aspx form but the data that it display is the first data from the gridview not the data that i select.

In my aspx page, I have a formview and a gridview. I am using the insert template of the form to insert an application number and applicant name both of which the user will enter.
I have a insert stored procedure that checks if that same number exist, it won't enter one, if not it will. ID of that table is autoincrement.
If a new number entered, it should show in the gridview as in my query I am asking to show the max ID. The applicatin number in the grid is a hyperlink which allows the user to go to a details page.
My problem: Whenever I click the save button in the formview, the grid becomes visible with the last created number. It is ok if the system allow to enter a new record. But if the number is a duplicate and the system does not enter a new number, still the grid shows with the last created number.
How can I implement what I want to do.
The stored procedure is:

I have a gridview (gvNested) nested inside another gridview (gvParent). I want to get the selected value of the nested gridview, but keep getting the classic 'object reference not set to an instance' error. I thought that this would work

I have a GridView1 With Paging allowed, PageSize = 10. And a Nested GridView2. The INSERT function on nested GridView2 works well until the number of record is 10.
On inserting the 11th record, the GridView1 is recorded normally in page 2 of 2. The Nested GridView2 does not fired properly. it appears empty on the 11th record (page 2 of 2), but instead add its record on the last recorded ID on page 1 of 2.
When I remove the paging, everything works well.
How to resolve the paging issue with Nested GridView on "INSERT" record?

I have parent gridview5 and nested child gridview6 within it. The page is working as expected and formatted as i need it now.. I added a select button to the child gridview6 and when i click on it i get an error: {"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."}
I found examples of using the find control, but within the parent gridview.. and i use that fine with other controls.. but cant figure out the right combination of finding the selected row for the nested gridview so that i can display a modalpopup.

I use Gridview along with Formview for master/detail viewing. When I change sorting in gridview selected index changes, too. I mean, eg first top record is still selected but it's another id. What I want is to keep id of selected record, in case of need changing a page

I am developing page for maintaing employee record using Visual Studio 2008, MS SQL server 2005. I am able to fetch and display all the employee information in gridview, the gridview have the dropdown list to display the employee type [ Part Time, Full Time, Permanent , Contract ], in the item template i am having dropdown list. IN the dropdown list i am displaying this. But While saving the record in gridview the droppdown selected index are changed to 0 of other dropdown list.
the user may be change the dropdown value from permanent to contract, or so. but while click on the save button in gridview, all the previous selection are gone, and always showing the first record of dropdown list. I know this is happening because we are doing dropdown list bind on onRowDataBound.

I'm trying to create a nested gridview, but I'm stuck at the editing/deleting part of the nested gridview. (Below is my code).The nested gridviews are filling out nice, I've set the DeleteParameter in the SQLDataSource, but I'm still getting this error when trying to delete a criteria: 'The Gridview 'gvCriteria' fired event RowDeleting which wasn't handled.'I've tried to create a method 'gvCriteria_RowDeleting', but that didn't seem to work out.Someone who can give me a piece of advice? Scenario : I have two database tables with one to many relationship. eg:- City and Related news. So I have a gridview(Gridview1) which lists out all the cities and allows edit, delete of the gridview rows. Now since i wanted to display all news for the city, i have a nested gridview as a column in this Gridview1. This nested gridview displays all the news for the cities. And I have edit, delete buttons for this gridview too - So far, good - works fine.
Now what I would like to do is - To insert a new news item for a city. For this, I attached a detailsview to my nested grid(gridview2), and tried to insert. I need the primary key id of city table from the first grid (gridview1) to insert the news into the second database table and I could not access this value from the parent gridview. My gridview1 does not have datakeyname, it is programatically bound.
Also, When the gridview/detailsview is nested, it does not get listed in the event-handler list. So I cannot use say, detailsview1_iteminserting. I do not how to add this event handler
Has anybody done anything similar? When I started, it looked like a pretty straightforward thing - There must be some way to do this. But I just can't get it to work. How do you usually insert into the child table in a one-to-many relationship? Should i just be using two separate gridviews?

Is there a better, cleaner way to do this in ASP.NET 2.0?
An ASP.NET 2.0 page displays a datalist of records. Each record can have many dates, so the dates are in a nested gridview (I chose a gridview over a datalist here because we want to be able to delete a date and this is easier done in a gridview). The parent record can never be deleted.
The display works fine: the nested gridview gets its datasource during the parent datalist's OnItemDataBound event.
The problem: the nested gridview's delete function. The date gets deleted without a problem (handled in the OnRowDeleting event), but somehow the redisplay is untying all the other nested gridviews from their datasources. The delete does not appear to cause a page postback, so I don't know how the other nested gridviews are losing their datasources.

When a user selects an item in the parent listview, the nested listiview displays as part of the selected item template - when a user selects an item in a nested listview it correctly populates a third, separate listview. To make sure I'm being clear, I have a parent listview with many rows and each of those rows has a nested listview, that is only populated and displayed when the row is selected. The parameters for the nested listview are set in the ItemDatabound event of the parent.
I had this working fine when both objectdatasources were on the aspx page. However, requirements have changed and we would like to pass a class to the BLL. I cannot figure out how to do this using a datasource on the aspx page. I can pass a class doing a databind in the code behind. However, if I do the databind in the code behind, the SelectedItem template does not get displayed as I would like. I need to find the the selectedIndex for the parent listview in SelectedIndexChanging. however, when I click or 'select' an item in the parent listview, the page refreshes, the ItemDatabound of the parent of the parent fires NOT knowing the selectedindex, then the SelectedIndexChanging event fires changing the SelectedIndex. By this time the Listview is already on the screen without the selectedItemTemplate containing the nested listview. If I click on another item, the when the page refreshes it knows the selectedItemIndex chosen before and displays that SelectedItemTemplate containing the selected index.

what changed do I need to make to my code for it to achieve what I'm after.
At the moment I am getting a "cannot cast to type" error message with the below code.
I have also tried calling the ItemDataBound method in with the parent repeater tags and had no errors but when I clicked on the button it would just move back to the top of the page and would not hide or show any data. Also I have made the div style to none but the first record still shows its child but the rest don't.
