Forms Data Controls :: Sqldatasoruce Data Type Convesion Error During BInd?
Jul 23, 2010
I have a mySQL datasource pulling back data from a query and populating a formview in edit item mode ( I only use this mode ). All is good. Business logic is such that some dates can be null. When I was putting the null or "" dates into a text box there was no problem, some users had problems with dates so I used the datepicker lite control, now the null or "" dates cause a data type conversion error stating that an empty sitrng "" cannot be cast to type date. It basically barfs here
<%# Bind("OrderDate", "{0:dddd d MMMM}") %>
This is obviously in the asp source portion of the code and there is no code in the classic VB section fo the page, it is all done by drag and drop controls and databinding.How can I fix this error and yet still allow users to put in a date, when applicable, and save the update with the new date added. eg I dont want to take out the databind if I can no longer save that field back to the db.
I have a gridview which I'm trying to get the display of phonenumbers listed in a certain display format; (xxx) xxx-xxxx.If I have the code such as this, it displays the unformatted phone number and (000) 000-0000 for the null items.
I am trying to insert a value in database from a dropdownlistddlvaue = 10.00 - 11.00in db asstarttime=10:00:00endtime=11:00:00using split function
string dropdownvalue = ddlduration.SelectedItem.Text.ToString(); string et = dropdownvalue.Split('-')[1].ToString(); endtime = et.Split(' ')[1].ToString(); starttime = dropdownvalue.Split(' ')[0].ToString(); I am joining date value + time value in the query uisng('" + datevalue + "' + ' ' + '" + starttime + "')
'2014-05-15' + '16.00' --> to get 2014-05-15 16:00:00
it is getting inserted successfullybut while selecting and viewing it from the database I am getting error as,
"Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime"
If i mannually enter the date in db it is workingmanuall value=2014-09-30 14:00query value =2014-09-30 14:00
both are same but error is only occuring for query inserted value
how can in sql server show two columns as one column.. one of them is nvarchar and the other is int from two tables i have did this but it give error
select depart.depart_name+input_comp.no_of_depart as department,dbo.depart.depart_id from dbo.depart inner join dbo.input_comp on dbo.depart.depart_id=dbo.input_comp.depart_id group by depart.depart_name,dbo.depart.depart_id,input_comp.no_of_depart the depart_name is nvarchar datatypeand the no_of_depart is int datatype
the error is
Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value to data type int.Â
I'm getting the following error base on dropdownlist selectindexchanged: error converting data type nvarchar to bigint
Below is my dropdownlist code:
Protected Sub ddlTaxName_SelectedIndexChanged(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles ddlTaxName.SelectedIndexChanged Dim strConnString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("BytConnectionString").ConnectionString() Dim strQuery As String = "select TaxName, [Rate(%)] from Sale_Tax where" & " TaxID = @TaxID" Dim con As New SqlConnection(strConnString)
Company array is a string array  where i have stored the company ids
the problem is company_array[0] has the initial value of the dropdownlist(company) --select company which is why m getting the error(cannot convert data type nvarchar to int) . Â I have used the same logic in many places in my project it did not give any error.
int count = 0; company_length = company_length - 1; while (count < GridView3.Rows.Count && compid_counter < company_length ) { cmd = new SqlCommand("insertWorkDetais", conn); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@trainerId",trainerID);
I have a website having an aunthentication system. When I am setting my website on IIS 6 the code is absolutly working fine. But when i configure the website on IIS 7 (Windows 2008 server) it is showing me the above error. I am using a stored procedure for it
I have a FormView with an EditTemplate.And the EditTemplate contains an ascx control:
<asp:FormView ID="fvTicketUpdate" runat="server"
[code]...
The contents of the ascx control has TextBox and DropDownList controls binding to the results of the FormView's ObjectDataSource through Text='<%# Eval("field1") %>'and SelectedValue='<%# Eval("field2") %>'.This works fine and I have been building all of my front end pieces like this as <asp:Panels> rendering as FieldSets that go 100% across the screen.And we call these areas "strips" accross the screen.But now I've run into a problem.One TextBox and one DropDown bind fine to a Ticket Object.But the DropDownList that works has its <asp:ListItems> hardcoded before hand.Now I have DropDownList that gets populated through a WebService in the ascx's code behind like this:
public partial class UserControls_FormControls_PntipUpdtFaaInfo : System.Web.UI.UserControl { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack)
[code]...
The Problem I think is the FormView is trying to do its Bind to the objectDataSource before its child ascx control is loaded in the Edit Template.And I am getting this error:
Databinding methods such as Eval(),XPath(),and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control.Meaning that the control must already be databound to bind the selectedValue to a Property of the TicketObject.Is there an easy way to force the order of loading to make the PntipUpdtFaaInfo control load and have its Page_Load execute and bind ddlEquip before the FormView does its first dataBind and executing its Evals?Otherwise I have to take out the eval on the ddlEquip SelectedValue attribute and go to the Parent Page and hack and force everything to happen when it needs to.This layout has worked out well for me.All of the ascx area strips across the screen share the same Validation Summary for example.It allows me to think about one section at a time and the Properties to the Business Obect and CRUD methods as I go.But this is a big brick wall I've hit.
I can't figure out what I"m doing wrong.. I followed this sample online at http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/091102-1.aspx to include a gridview in an email. But, it keeps throwing this error.. 'GridView' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server.I've verified that the gridview is in a form, and there are no template fields in the gridview. Heres the gridview on my asp.net page..
I am binding SQL data to a GridView. The GridView's DataKeyNames property is set to the SQL column called "utID"
I know that within the SQL results, some of the utID values are NULL. After databinding to the GridView, I need to enumerate through the GridViewRows an read the DataKey values. However, when I try this I get the following error:
No default member found for type 'DBNull'. I am using the code below.
What object types are stored within DataKeys (I thought it was just integers or strings)
How to handle a NULL datakey value to prevent this error occurring?
I don't want to use Try Catch because it's too much of a 'hack'
am having a class which contains user defined data type property. I have created an instance of that class. When I bind that object of that class to DetailsView it is showing all properties except user defined data type property. Here is the sample code.
public class Customer public string CustomerName { get; set; } public int Age { get; set; } public Address CustomerAddress { get; set; } } Address class looks like public class Address { [code]...
when i am trying to uedit my recods in gridview this error is coming. I am using SQLDatasource with gridview and for edit purpose i am using stored procedure. I have manually executed the SP and its woring fine. my SP is here
I have a FormView that allows a user to register for a company event. I want to do a couple of things with this form.
1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database
2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email.
I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time.
It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it.
The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:
[Code]....
[Code]....
The Second page confirms the users information by taking those session variables and placing them into labels:
[Code]....
[Code]....
However, after I place information into the formview on the first page, it throws up this error:
"Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid".
I am having problem with rowdatabound, want to add if conditions intact, i am using teh following two if conditions and they don't look right. i found them on google.
If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Normal Or e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Alternate Then end if If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Edit Or e.Row.RowState = 5 Then end if
With datagrids i use these and they work excellent:
If e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.Item OrElse e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.AlternatingItem Then end if.....
.I have a search page where I would search for an item and it would dispaly the results in a gridview...
I have allowed paging and set page size to 10..now I can see the 10 results in the first page and also see the page numbers at the bottom of gridview. But now when i click on the page 2, the method gridview_pageindexchanging is triggered but the result set is not dispalyed. My code is as below..
[code]....
i understand that the data is not binding in the GridView1_PageIndexChanging method..I do not know how can I make data bind..
I'm trying to pass email addresses from an array to a stored procedure, then display the results in my gridview. I get the following error:No mapping exists from object type System.String[] to a known managed provider native type.On this line: Dim DR As SqlDataReader = MyCommand.ExecuteReader
