Forms Data Controls :: When Updating Gridview When Hide Columns Values Turn To Null?
Mar 5, 2010
I am updating a gridview. Problem is that when I hide certain fields that I do not want the user to update, they lose their values ie. the data is wiped out in the field unless I show them on the grid and make them writeable. Is there a property I need to set for the field to retain the value when the grid is updated or is this in the sql statement?

I have a Gridview with some cells in numbers while in some cell they could be null without numbers. I need to modify it such that the numbers in the Gridview are in these formats:-
(a) If it is 12345.333 becomes 12,345
(b) If it is blank, I wish the cells to display 0
This is the code I am using to achieve (a), but when it comes to blank, it returns error (I believe my code below failed to provide blank cases but I dunno how. So what should be the code to do (b) above ?
For i As
Integer = 1
To N
e.Row.Cells(i).Text = String.Format("{0:#,##0}", Convert.ToDouble(e.Row.Cells(i).Text))Next

I have a GridView with 5 fields. Only two of the fields are edittable (the others are READONLY).
I have an UpdateCommand as follows
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"
ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:NHLPOOL %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [PlayerID], [Firstname], [lastname], [Goals], [Assists], [Goals]+[Assists] as Points, [AsOfDate] FROM [PlayerStats], [Player] where [PlayerStats].[PlayerID] =[Player].[ID] ORDER BY Points DESC"
UpdateCommand="UPDATE PlayerStats SET Goals =@GOALS, Assists =@ASSISTS, AsofDate=GETDATE() WHERE PLAYERID = @PLAYERID">
</asp:SqlDataSource>
The issue is I want the PLAYERID GV column to be READONLY but I get a runtime error when updating if the PLAYERID is READONLY.
I get the error "
Must declare the scalar variable "@PLAYERID"."

I have a webpage that lists information about trucks and their map sections and whether the combination is active and will be used.
On the page I put a check box that says Show Only Active and marked the checked property as true by default. When the RowDataBound event fires I check to see if that checkbox is marked as true and if it is I check if the individual map sections are marked as active. If they are not active then I set the row visibility equal to false like below.

dv = new DataView(table);
Table.Columns.Add("ID", typeof(string));
table.Columns.Add("Type", typeof(string));
table.Columns.Add("EmpName", typeof(string));
table.Columns.Add("Manager", typeof(string));
row = table.Rows.Add();
row["ID"] = result["ID"].ToString();
row["Type"] = result["Type"].ToString();
row["EmpName"] = result["EmpName"].ToString();
row["Manager"] = result["Manager"].ToString();
Then I am adding boundfield to gridview for all 4 columns. Now I want to check if "Type" column contain "Sales" thne do not show "Manager" columns. Let me know can I do this?

I have two columns in my Gridview marked false for the visible property but which are clearly listed in the DataKeyNames that are still getting set to null in my database table on update.
The first one is a column MId# which is a type int. It starts as 0 but on edit is turned into null. The Second is RequireSKU which is also converted to null.

Whenever you turn off the visibility of a column in Gridview, on Edit, the value becomes null because its never bound. The only way I know of stopping this behavoir is to put it in the DataKeyName list. Is there any other way to prevent this? I have quite a few columns that will not be displayed in this "release" but I want there for future extensibility. Also, in some cases these values will be used for calculations but the user should not see them. Is there no toggle property for "non-visible" items to remain "unchanged" or something of the sort?

I'm just wondering if anyone can assist me with this gridview problem
I have this Sql statement that outputs a gridview like this
Job Location Activity 1 Activity 2 Activity 3
Job1 Location1 0 0 1
Job2 Location2 1 0 1
Job3 Location3 0 1 0
* These columns are placeholders
I want to include a footer total that looks like
Job Location Activity 1 Activity 2 Activity 3
Job1 Location1 0 0 1
Job2 Location2 1 0 1
Job3 Location3 0 1 0
Final Total 4
Im not binding the database to the gridview via design view I'm binding it programatically in the default.aspx.cs file
So far the only tutorials I've encountered are ones the have the database bound through design view and gridviews with only one column that can be added. In my particular example I have multiple columns that need to be added and I have already bound the data to the gridview.

I use VS2005 on Oracle 10gR2. Using
(System.ComponentModel.DataObjectMethodType.Update,
True) to update database row that returns null values from date and numeric columns,Whenever i try to update same row with null (or empty) values on both date and numeric columns, it results in sending '01-Jan-0001' for date column and 0 for numeric column. I want the user to have the options of null or corresponding values for the update.

Is it possible to first add controls (ie. CheckBoxes) to a GridView with AutoGenerateColumns set to true. Then to click a single save button which loops thru the controls in the GridView, gets their values (ie. Checked/Not Checked) and then saves those values to a database?

{
if(e.CommandName.Equals("addnew"))
{
TextBox t1 = (TextBox)GridView2.FooterRow.FindControl("tfrm");

TextBox t2 = (TextBox)GridView2.FooterRow.FindControl("tsub");
string sub = t2.Text;
string cmd = "insert into suggestions values('" + frm + "','" + sub + "','c','c')";

int a = com.ExecuteNonQuery();
GridView2.DataBind();

GridView1.Columns.Count is always zero even SqlDataSource1.DataBind();
But Grid is ok I can do
for (int i = 0; i < GridView1.HeaderRow.Cells.Count;i++)
I rename request headers here but
GridView1.Columns[i].Visible = false;
I can't use it because of GridView1.Columns.Count is 0. So how can I hide them ?
