Web Forms :: How To Read That OnClick Is Executed On The Server And OnClientClick Is Executed On The Client

Dec 4, 2010

I've read that OnClick is executed on the server and onClientClick is executed on the client. Is it better to use OnClientClick to do something like close a modal popup?

If my understanding is correct then this would avoid a trip to the server to accomplish the same task. This would be great for something that doesn't need to make a round trip to the server and back.

C# - Gridview Capture SQL Select Command Being Executed?

Mar 22, 2011

Is there anyway to capture the command the Gridview is executing for later use? I have gridview that uses parameters from a few textboxes, so its generating a custom statement. I am wondering is there anyway for me to get that statement either during or after it is executing it, and then returning the results. I need to save it, so that I can populate a CSV file with the data that was returned?

UpdatePanel With GridView With LinkButton With Image Causes Full Postback

Apr 20, 2010

So this might be a fairly specific issue but I figured I'd post it since I spent hours struggling with it before I was able to determine the cause.

<asp:GridView ID="gvAttachments" DataKeyNames="UploadedID" AutoGenerateColumns="false" OnSelectedIndexChanged="gvAttachments_SelectedIndexChanged" runat="server">
<EmptyDataTemplate>There are no attachments associated to this email template.</EmptyDataTemplate>
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField ItemStyle-Width="100%">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton CommandName="Select" runat="server"><img src="/images/icons/trashcan.png" style="border: none;" /></asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>

In the ItemTemplate of the TemplateField of the GridView I have a LinkButton with an image inside of it. Normally I do this when I have an image with some text next to it but this time, for whatever reason, I just have the image. This causes the UpdatePanel to always do a full postback.

How To Make The Gridview Columns NOT To Expand And If The Data Needs To Show In Full

Feb 25, 2011

So i'm currently designing a site ( ) and i've made my skeleton master page.What i've noticed is that the gridview must be cut down a little to fit my 1024x768 design.

Now i have taken a note in the past to look at this but i couldn't find the time so i guess the time is now.
What i have problem with is shrinking the columns.If i have a name, say "jack R" and i make a gridview column,say width 15 then the name is included and all is ok.However if i have another name,say "jack the 3rd" then the column will expand to fill the name.So all the grid will expand to the right.I have tried in the past some stuff but it seems that if a value is longer than the column then i expands whatever i do.Also i was surprised to see that only the dates will not expand and go "down" instead of right.At least in the gridview i have.

So the 2 questions.How do i make the gridview columns NOT to expand and if the data needs to show in full then how do i make the data go DOWN and not expand right.I have no problem of the grid expanding downwards but i have a problem of the grid expanding to the right.

Force A Full PostBack From An ItemTemplate Inside A GridView In An UpdatePanel?

Dec 16, 2010

I found this solution to force full postbacks from within an UpdatePanel

<Triggers>
<asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID="controlID" />
</Triggers>

but my control is actually inside an ItemTemplate nested in a GridView. Therefore when my page loads, it doesn't find that control.

How can I force a full postback from my control (an asp:LinkButton) from within my GridView?

AJAX :: Link Button In Gridview Causing Full Postback?

Feb 11, 2011

I have a link button inside a template field of a gridview. The gridview is wrapped in an update panel. I want the link button to fire an async postback but it always fires a full postback. Why is this?

This is a similar problem to the one described in the link below. However, I have tried doing a RegisterAsyncPostbackControl in the gridview databound, but this did not work.

Forms Data Controls :: Full Hyperlinked GridView Row Not Just Text?

I am fairly new to ASP.NET I have implemented a GridView table so each row is databound to an ObjectDataSource and is hyperlinked.

Ideally, the webpage is to be used on a touchscreen interface so I would like the entire row not just the text within the rows/columns to be a hyperlink. I have been told this is possible by using AJAX but have been unable to find a way of going about it.

Forms Data Controls :: Bind A GridView To A DataTable (in Viewstate) With Full In-line CRUD?

Sep 24, 2010

I need a bit of help with a scenario. I am working on a web application that requires huge amounts of data to be Added, Deleted, and Updated. The data entry forms are divided into logical groups through Multiviews. All the information is saved when the mighty Finish button is pressed. The current setup (previous developer) does not allow me to use transactions. Therefore, if I am to save a new Courier to the database, I need to add his/her Distance and Rate info. In addition, I need to add his/her Banned Areas info (Area Name, Post Code).This is where it gets interesting. Obviously, the DistamceAndRate table and the BannedArea table in my SQL Server will have the CourierID as a foreign key. Since I'm going to save the Courier as well as the Rates and Areas info in one go, I cannot have the newly created CourierID before. Therefore, I cannot bind my Grids for Distance + Rates and Banned Areas directly to database.What I am doing is creating two DataTables and managing them in Viewstate through properties as follow:

[Code]....

So, on page load, the DataTables are initialized with a blank schema. Here are the attempted CRUD implementations (Distance and Rate only):

[Code]....

I am having issues when I am canceling a new entry and when I am editing a new entry. In addition, for Distance and Rates, Rate is acting as unique (cannot be repeated) and attempting to control that is also giving me a headache. I end up creating blank rows.And here's the ASPX cut-out:

[Code]....

Hope to get an answer soon.Also, off-topic, I'm using LINQ here. In order to save a Courier and his/her extra details, I first save his/her address to DB. Then I take the ID of the address and save the courier. now the courier ID is avaliable and i start filling extra tables related with the courier table. If something goes wrong, I have to manually delete created rows. LINQ uses transaction internally but only until a SubmitChanges() call. I'm forced to save each entity so I keep calling SubmitChanges().I tried manual transaction but after saving the address inside a transaction, the Address.OID (Address table's mapped prime-key) had a 0. attempting to use this newly added address while saving Courier in the same transaction threw an exception. If there is a way to get the primary key for entities created in a transaction that is yet to be commited, please mention that'll as well.

Urlrewriter Page Not Executed?

May 3, 2010

I'm having some problems with the module urlrewriter.net for ASP.NET.I have a multilingual site with a URL like this;

~/home.aspx
To support languages I use this rewrite rule;
<rewrite url="~/de-DE/(.*)" to="~/$1"></rewrite>

Then in my code I get the de-DE part and set the right culture for the current thread. All of this works well.After I login on the website I get a message "Hello, user x" to show i'm logged in. When navigating to another page, it doesn't display this message anymore and it seems like the page comes from the cache or something with the old (not logged in) data. Also, when I attach the debugger, nothing is executed for this request. If I visit the page like ~/home.aspx instead of ~/de-DE/home.aspx, does problem does not occur.
