How To Set A Property In Custom Controller Wrapper In OnActionExecuting How To Pass To Site.Master
Jun 3, 2010
Say I have a class that wraps the Controller class:
public class MyController : Controller
{
public string SomeProperty {get;set;}
public override void OnActionExecuting(...)
{
SomeProperty = "hello";
}
}
Now in my site.master, I want to have access to the SomeProperty that I just set. How can I do this?
I want to be able to have it so that each LinkButton can pass through an ID from the database as an parameter into the AcceptWager function and then I will do with it from there. The sql column for the ID is WagerId. It is returned in that query that i execute, so it is already in the reader.
I'm using a simple base class for my controller that sets a piece of ViewData and makes use of the HttpContext. My understanding is that I need to put this code in Initialize() or OnActionExecuting(). I tried both, but believe Initialize() is what I want.
This works when running the app in VS just fine.
I wrote a unit test that calls the action and checks the ViewData for the expected value. When unit testing, neither method is called.
I have a simple model where a Person has Gifts. I have a view which is a list of Gifts belonging to one Person.
My problem is with the Create action for a new Gift. I want it to default to the PersonID that we are already viewing the list of Gifts for. I tried simply passing the last PersonID (they are all the same)
Html.ActionLink("Create New", "Create", new { id = Model.Last().PersonID }) which works fine if there is already at least one Gift for that person but if this is the first Gift I don't have a value.
My Gift List controller knows the PersonID I want to pass but the view doesn't.
How do I pass this PersonID from my Gift List controller to my Gift Create controller via the Gift List view? Or is there a better way to do this?
I want to open B site as new window from A site, so its ask for windows credential. I have credential in A site. I am opening B site using Javascript.window.open.
The user control has public properties named accordingly and the page has protected properties accordingly which I've verified have the desired values.
For some reason the values are always empty strings or 0s in the usercontrol, no matter what the page property is.
Using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I was used to creating a web app anytime and I would get a default page for starters and be happy. But today I find that when I pick either the ASP.NET Web Site or ASP.NET Web Application templates I get site.master and a bunch of site admin files that I don't want. Alternately when I select the empty versions of those templates, I get almost nothing at all. An almost empty web.config page and no Default.aspx page. There is nothing magical about having a default.aspx page in place, but it is an indicator of a change when I can only get a virtually completely empty website or a website with a bunch of bells and whistles I don't want.
Also, for some reason, when I create a new app or website as just noted, in the Solution Explorer I get aspx.designer.cs files showing as well as web.config files for both debug and release. Somehow some settings and templates must have changed, or am I missing something here? How can I get my settings/templates to go back to the way they were?
I have a textbox and a button, and I trying to give the user a search option in the master page. The onClick event of my button is fine, but the textbox.Text property is always empty. I googled a little and fine many articles about accessing the Master from the ContentHolder, but I believe its no my case...
I'm starting with ASP.NET MVC (1.0). I have a problem to resolve. I have developed a web applicaton (an application of articles like e-commerce) with a head (logo and menu). I have defined the head (logo and menu) in the Master page (site.master). Now, I must display the number of articles in the head in a field (like the number of articles in the virtual basket in the e-commerce). I can read the number of articles in the data base (in the controller), but i can't integrate it in the master page.
My computer system froze on me, the mouse froze, cntrl-alt-del, did nothing, so I reset it. Did a disk check, and now everything seems fine except for my master Page html code which I was in the middle of editing when it happened. The VB code-behind file is still ok, the designer file still shows ok with all of the controls in it, but I can't get into desgn or source view. It just opens and gives a whole page of hesixecimal code such as as:
I hosted two asp.net web project in IIS with unique VirtualDirectory (sample and Sample2). Now i access a web page from Sample site and from this page i'm sending request to a web page in a site Sample2 with some values through Query String. I got the page and the values from query string.
Now my problem is, instead of sending values through QueryString is there is any other way to pass values from one site to another. Because, i never give the url for the second site to client. They know only the first site url based on user input i'll redirect it to the second site. Problem is user can see the values passed through QueryString and there is a chance to bookmark that link by user, it just like hacking. I donot want the user to do that.
Iam developing a custom checkbox control deriving from the 'compositecontrol' which i need to use it for a composite control purpose.
public class TngCheckBox : CompositeControl {
i have written the required properties which are working fine except the "checked" property. here is my code for 'checked' property. i tried both the below ways (commented one and not commneted) . the problem is the 'checked' value is not setting the value at the get set part of the property.its assigning the value at the design time , but when i check and uncheck its not updating the property value.which is resulting me wrong .

I have a custom control, inherited from Button. This is the class definition for the control and 2 properties:
[Code]....
I show you 2 properties, only to illustrate the problem.
as you see Aplicacion property is of a custom type Sistema, and Roles property is of type List<UserRol>.
The Aplicacion property is rendered well, this way:
[Code]....
The problem I have is with List<UserRol>. I couldn't get it to be rendered. I expeect to be rendered this way:
[Code]....
Finally, this is the TypeConverter and Editor definitions for the list:
[Code]....
The UserRol class is a typical class, without any special attributes.
I have discovered that when I use the custom editor for Roles property, the collection is not persisted. When I use the default editor for the collection, the collection is persisted.
public ActionResult Details(int? aaaID, int? bbbID)
and I am trying to route the url http://..../controller/aaa/23432 to action Details.
routes.MapRoute( "controller", // Route name "controller/aaa/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "controller", action = "Details", lblID = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults);However, the aaaID of function Details also get a null value?
I don't know if I've understanding MVC correctly if my question makes no sense, but I'm trying to understand the following: I have some code on a controller that returns JSON data. The JSON data is populated based on a choice from a dropdown box on an Asp.Net page. I thought (incorrectly) that Session variables would be shared between the Asp.Net project and the MVC Project. What I'd like to do therefore (if this is possible), is to call a Sub on the MVC that sets a variable before the JSON query is run. I have the following:
Sub SetCountryID(ByVal CountryID As Integer) Me.pCountrySelectedID = CountryID End Sub
Which I can call by the following: Response.Write([URL]) But this then results in a blank page - again obviouslly totally incorrect! Am I going about MVC the wrong way or do I still have a hell of a lot more learning to do?
I have a custom control that I have created. I want to be able to pass in a Javascript snippet for a callback function. I am able to do this by passing a string back. The problem is that in the Javascript, I need to reference another server control that is not related to my custom control. So, I need to be able to pass in the ClientID of that control for use in the Javascript. Here is a snippet of what I am trying to do:
[Code]....
Now, I realize that '<%= chkStartDate.ClientID %>' will not be parsed. But, I need it to be parsed so the OnClientOnChangeEvent property of my custom control can take any Javascript for use as a callback. In this instance, I need to pass in the ClientID of the control for the Javascript function to find the control to work with; and this seems to be the one issue that I don't know how to handle.
In my ASP MVC app I have an asp: DropDownList control that has a source of a Linq data class. The values in the list are getting set fine, but when I select one, and then click on an Html.ActionLink, and pass control back to my controller, I'm not sure how to fetch the value that was selected from the DropDownList.
