HttpHandlers / Modules :: Unable To Retrieve Session Variables In An ASHX File?
Jul 23, 2010
I have read in many places that referencing IRequiresSessionState or IReadOnlySessionState will allow me access to the Session scoped variables from within the ProcessRequest method in an ASHX file.
I have implemented these changes, as follows, and I am unable to retrieve this data still, as the server returns a null object reference error:
using System;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.SessionState;[code]....
The error is most certainly specific to pulling data from the session, yet I am 100% certain that the session contains data in this key.
It shouldnt matter where I am storing the data (cookies, vs db, etc), right?
I have a gridview and in it is code to display an image
[Code]....
This works fine for pass one variable. but I need to send two variables 'ImageNum' and 'refID' to the Handler.ashx page, any ideas how, tried a few things in last few hours and as yet no joy!
i have doubt i have a .ashx file is in project called ShowImage.ashx,Currentely i am using this file for to show to show images in uploading area used to immediately show image after uploading it to the uploader on the web page
but now i want to pass the user id containg textbox value to this .ashx file(it is an int Value not string) how can ito send my textbox int values to .ashx file and receive the result
I hope I am posting into the right area... I want to know if you can access a session variable from a HTTP Module in IIS 7. Here is the scenario, I want to access the session values (i.e. User Object) from a HTTP Module. I have read oodles and tried many things but to no avail. I guess the application uses Forms authentication to authorize a logon to the site. I want to monitor the url that is submitted... RAWUrl property and if they are going to a certain page I want to grab their user object from THEIR session and validate them for access to that page. I want to use a httpmodule for this. The long and short of this is "Can I get access to session variables from the request from the httpmodule code behind? If I can, could you beso kind as to show me a working sample... I have tried many permutations on this using httpapplication, context and so forth and I can't seem to get access to session variables that would belong to the users request. it this possible?
Is it possible to add a messagebox to an ASHX Handler? I used a handler to pass data from a Web Service to an internal system and need a messagebox to pop up to ask the user to choose from one option or another.
I have an Handler.ashx file and on .aspx page load it calles the .ashx file for image reading. I am attempting to pass a session from the .aspx file to the .ashx file in order to make my query of grabing the image secure. The problem is that everytime I call a session: HttpContext.Current.Session["ID"], the value is returning null or errors saying the o so commong "Object reference not set to an instance of the object". I have tried a couple ways of grabing the session:
none of them are giving me the ID session set in the .aspx page. should i be using Server.Transfer instead? is there a way to grab a session variable set in a .aspx page and called in a .ashx page?
I have a 3.5 app with a subfolder containing numerous documents. I want to control access to all files in this subfolder via an ASHX handler. My file system looks like this:
The content of the web.config in the files folder is simple:
[Code]....
This works fine on my WinXP / IIS6 developement box, but doesn't work at all when I upload it to my IIS7 / shared hosting account (GoDaddy). I know it doesn't work because I can access every file in the subfolder - the restrictions I wrote in my ASHX code-behind aren't taking affect at all.
I'm trying to set session variables in one page, and retrieve them in my code file in the page that it posts to.
I keep getting this error. I put the correct namespaces in, and enabledSessionState = true to my application files, but no luck.
Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.
I'm just calling a session variable, and I get that error
e.g,
Public AUID As Integer = Convert.ToInt16(Session("AUID"))
So I've read quite a few posts about how to do this, and it's still getting me. I'm trying to control access to a directory, but I continue to get a null session error. I'm doing my check in PostAcquireRequestState
[Code]....no matter where I put this, my session always comes back null. I am using IRequireSessionState on the class as well. Am I pulling the context wrong?
I have a website running on IIS7 in integrated mode (framework 4). I have added a <handler> to deal with page requests.
my web.config
[Code]....
my dll
[Code]....
When i run site.aspx in my browser, it loads for about 20 seconds, and then I get "Connection was reset" / "Webpage cannot be displayed". Google Chrome returns "Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error".
It works well in the VS2010 development webserver. It works on IIS if the handler is an appcode cs file, but as soon as I move to a DLL, i get this error. After attempting to load the page a few times, the app pool crashes and has to be restarted.
I have IReadOnlySessionState and IRequiresSessionState on my module but still httpApplication.Context.Session == null is this because these session state hasn't been created yet? is there a way around this?
I have an ASP.NET application with 5 .ashx HTTPHandlers that implement RequiresSessionState or IReadOnlySessionState.Upon calling the first handler I create a variable and store it in the session.When I call the next HttpHandler the variable is not available in the session object.I am use context.Session.I have a global.asax where I retrieve the sessionId.Is there a way to preserve session variables across HttpHandlers or does each Handler get its own session?
I have a module that subscribes to PreRequestHandlerExecute event, which uses the Session object. When i set the webconfig compilationdebug flag to false, the Session object is null when making requests to the web service. It works fine for .aspx requests, but only have problems for .asmx. When i set the debug flag to true everything works fine. I need to set this flag to false for production, but can't seem to get it work.I'm using II7 and the integrated pipeline, so this event will fire for all requests.
Our website used to be a php website, now everything changed to .net, but the customer still want to keep the original php Request url. I want to know How to set Handler mapping on IIS7 to redirect .php file to .aspx file ? In more details, when you click handler mappings on IIS 7.0, what kind of hanlder should you add (add managed handler or add script map or add wild card script map or add module mapping) to redirect .php file to .aspx file?
I am having a specific requirement of which I am not sure it is even possible to do but I have read somewhere in the past few days that similar to what I am trying to achieve shoud be done by writing a custom HttpHandler (or module?). Basically, I currently have a simple aspx page that accepts a file upload and forwards it to another URL (after doing some checking). The way this currently works is that my Page_Loaded gets called only after the entire file is uploaded.
What I am looking to achieve is get a hold of an uploaded file Stream early on as soon as request headers are processed so I could do some sort of piping froim the uploaded file Stream to my destination Stream. With large files this should be extra beneficial because there is no waiting time for the large file to get uploaded and my gut feeling tells me this way the memory footprint should also be lower. What I need is a forward-only Stream. No seeking needed. Therefore, I don't need to manage the entire uploaded file at some point in time. I just want to send the bytes as soon as they are received (with some lightweight processing in between).
Here is my problem, I've created a button image, by clicking on it, it should popup a window to save as the document. This is working fine, my only point is : it showing the name of the page instead of the file. But when i download it, I've the right file.
I have implemented URL rewritting in my application. I did it in Application_BeginRequest located in Global.asax. My url rewritting in working fine. Now in order to maintain rewritting during post back.
I have added code line this.Form.Action = Request.RawUrl; in page load event in order to maintain rewritten URL during post back. When I am adding below code on image button click to download file it doesn't work. It says "Internet explorer cannot display webpage". When I am removing line this.Form.Action = Request.RawUrl; from page load then downloading file will start working but URL rewritting will not work on postback.
