Jun 1, 2010I already have SQL Server (Developer Edition) installed on my computer. I'm learning ASP.NET by going through some video tutorials. These tutorials use VWD 2008 Express so I'm going to install that version (instead of 2010). Will the VWD installation recognize my existing version of SQL Server and connect to it properly after the install? I read something about VWD Express not working correctly with SQL Server Developer Edition.

May 2, 2010I downloaded the Beta Version for .Net 4 and Visual Web Developer 2010. Now I want to delete them and get the New versions. It will not delete. Visual Web Developer will not install without the .Net 4 Framework.

Jul 4, 2010 I had VS 2010 RC installed on my machine. Uninstalled it and wanted to install VWD 2010.
I installed Web Platform Installer as instructed on the download site, but there is no VWD Express under any tabs...including Tools.
FYI: I did install VWD 2010 using WPI on my other machine but somehow on this machine WPI does not show this option.
Not sure if VS2010 RC was installed on this machine and that's the issue.
Now i am downloading .iso image for VS 2010 Express that has VWD express.

In the folder SQL 2005 express edition there is a folder called configuration tools with has 3 applications, is this normal?
There is no other folder under SQL 2005. I tried to re-install it and the same thing happened

Oct 18, 2010We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. I have created a login for my web server in SQL Server like mydomainmywebserver$.In Visual Web Developer when I use Database Explorer to add a connection I am having a problem. I can see my SQLserver in the server name box but I don't any database in the Select a database name box.
What is the likely reason for this? Is it an authentication problem in SQLserver?

Apr 20, 2010I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark ). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio.
However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Is there perhaps some way that I can edit the project file so that it will load and compile correctly?
Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully. However, I notice that MVC references in my unit-test project don't seem to be resolved either - is this perhaps because MVC2 isn't actually installed properly?
