Is There A Limit On The Size Of A Http Argument Value In A HttpWebRequest

Apr 4, 2011

I am testing out a few different public RESTful APIs each differing in http argument value name, but in concept all work similarly. However none of the companies are connected so it must be something on my end.

Within .NET I get the following error when trying to obtain the HttpWebResponse:
Message: "The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine"
Status: ServerProtocolViolation {11}
Using Fiddler, I am finding that the headers coming back are non-existent and this is the cause of the issue (not even present and improperly formatted):
HTTP/1.0 200 This buggy server did not return headers
The parameter I am sending in is a lengthy text news article. I have stripped ALL puntuation, characters, etc just to make sure nothing wans interferring. I build the text out using a StringBuilder and then create the URI like below:
Dim sb As New StringBuilder
sb.Append("&apiKey=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode("123456789"))
sb.Append("&inputText=" + HttpUtility.UrlEncode(Me.MyTestText))
Dim ApiHttpWebRequest As HttpWebRequest = CType(WebRequest.Create(New Uri(BaseRequestURL + sb.ToString.Trim())), HttpWebRequest)
Dim ApiHttpWebResponse As HttpWebResponse = CType(ApiHttpWebRequest.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse)

This code DOES work with most text I send it. The interesting thing I am finding is that if I shorten the text I am sending then it works! I can't figure out exactly the threashold or breaking point. The stringbuilders values expand after the HttpUtility.UrlEncode function is run against it. However the text in size is only about 5-8 kilobytes in size and well below any size limitations set forth by the 'httpWebRequest' .config settings as laid out in the MSDN or by that of any of the APIs I am using (for example 1 limit is 150 kilobytes of text). I even tried setting all of those values to "-1" in the web.config which means: "A value of -1 indicates that no size limit will be imposed on the response headers."

AJAX :: PageMethods Results Size Limit / Is There A Setting In The Web.config Somewhere To Handle Pagemethod Buffer Size

Mar 24, 2010

I am using PageMethods to send a few parameters to a webmethod in my codebehind. The method runs a stored procedure and uses the results to build a string that I am returning from the method.

Everything works fine until I try to include too many records in my results..

Once the results I am trying to return hit about 70K, the pagemethod times out even though it is taking about 1 second to process the results.

Is there a buffer limit or limit on the size or results returned from a pagemethod and if so, where can this be set or changed?

Is there a setting in the web.config somewhere to handle pagemethod buffer size?

C# - HttpWebRequest Connection Limit And RestFUL Server?

Dec 21, 2010

I have created a server product that is connecting to some social network servers and sending to data which status update etc. The server already authenticated to necessary social networks servers by users who is using this solution.

Actually, I have no problem at this time, but I think I will.

My server will be open a thousands of concurrent request to neccessary servers via Http with C# HttpWebRequest instance. I already know that It's possible to change concurrent request limits with below propery.

ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit AFAIK, this limit is max 100 evet you set more than 100. So, I will be faced with bottleneck problem with HttpWebRequest even change the DefaultConnectionLimit property of ServicePointManager.

C# - How To Raw Http Request That The HttpWebRequest Class Sends

Sep 27, 2010

I know you are all going to answer "use a debugging proxy server like Fiddler" but it's not that simple.

Here's my situation: I have some code that runs on a server, in an ASP.NET page code-behind (aspx.cs), which (among other things) establishes a connection to another server, grabs some stuff, and then formats it and returns it to the browser.

The problem is that the other server is doing the wrong thing, and so I want to be able to pass a debugging flag into the page (via the query string, e.g. ?debug=true) so that it will print out the completely raw HTTP request that it is sending to the other server so I can see what the heck is wrong. This code is running in several places so I want to be able to just pass in this flag on dev, staging, or production and just see the request, without having to figure out whether the production servers can talk to some proxy server that exists somewhere, etc.

You would think that it would be easy to do this, right? So I feel like I'm crazy or something but I looked at the reference for HttpWebRequest and its parent class WebRequest and -- nothing. No can do. You would think Microsoft would have thought of this. The closest thing is that you can access the "Headers" collection but when I tried it, it omitted some really important headers like "content length" -- so it must be "lying" to me (I know it's lying, because I know for a fact that the remote server is returning a 200 status -- the request is successful, it's just returning bad/different/wrong data)

Here is the asked-for code example:

HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://www.whatever.com");
req.Method = ... whatever ...;
... other setup for the request ...
/* At this point we are about to send the request.
What does the raw HTTP request look like? */
HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse();

AJAX :: Limit Accordionpane Size?

Jan 27, 2011

What is the best way of limit the size of an Accordion Pane when it contains a lot of data? I have an Accordion defined in the ASP which I'm building dynamically in the code behind,at present I'm just adding Literals to the pane (basically records from the db) The data I'm using generates four panes which contain 86, 4, 500 & 132 rows each. I was wondering if it's feasible to limit the rows being displayed by the Accordion Pane when the rows are greater than 20 but below that number have the size set to auto?

.net - Web Config Size Limit Exceeded Under IIS7 0x80070032?

Oct 19, 2010

I have a web.config file which is quite large in my current solution running on IIS7.

It's working perfect on my dev server however I encounter the error 0x80070032 "Config Error Cannot read configuration file because it exceeds the maximum file size"

My current solution uses a very large web.config file. The architecture of my CMS application requires a large number of configuration settings.

Is there some way to extend this size limit or can I split the web.config file down into smaller files?

What Is The Default Connection Limit Of .Net Remoting Http Channel

Jun 13, 2010

When using .net remoting, does the server limit incoming client remoting calls?

I find a particular remoting call (during ASP.NET page rendering) to take from 200ms to 1500ms. While the underlying data call is only 50ms. Factoring in remoting overhead of 150ms per call, the only difference between the two cases is that the latter scenario has about a dozen more parallel remoting calls in progress. So my guess is that when too many remoting calls are happening, some will get queued up? I also doubt system resource is the cause of the delay because it is not nearly saturated.

Searching MSDN, I find the below:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973907.aspx
clientConnectionLimit: specifies how
many connections can be simultaneously
opened to a given server. The default
is 2. This is exactly the same as the
connection limit on ServicePoint in
the net classes.

That seems awfully low to me and if were the case, my app's performance would have been much worse. Can someone confirm if there is indeed a connection limit or some other throttling in .net remoting?

Forms Data Controls :: DataNavigateUrlFormatString Error ""Index (zero Based) Must Be Greater Than Or Equal To Zero And Less Than The Size Of The Argument List"

Sep 22, 2010

I am bindibg data to a grid and in my asp page I have the following asp:HyperLinkField:

asp:HyperLinkField
DataNavigateUrlFields="serialno"
DataTextField="serialno"
HeaderText="serialno" DataNavigateUrlFormatString="DeviceDetails.aspx?serialno={0}"
/>

This is working perfectly, but when I add a second parameter to the querystring it does not work anymore:

DataNavigateUrlFormatString="DeviceDetails.aspx?serialno={0}&id={1}"This

I get the following error during DataBind to a grid: [System.FormatException] = {"Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list."} What does this mean? Is {1} not a string or is it because of something else?

C# - HTTP 502 Proxy Error - The Size Of The Response Header Is Too Large. Contact Your ISA Server Administrator. (12216)

Feb 23, 2011

Some of my users are getting the following error

HTTP 502 Proxy Error - The size of the response header is too large. Contact your ISA server administrator. (12216) Internet Security and Acceleration Server

I am guessing it has to do with the size of hidden "__ViewState" tag in my ASP.NET pages.

I also realize that this is restriction imposed to by IT on the users end and I have no contol over it.

I disabled ViewState on all the controls in my ASP.NET pages. However, __ViewState is still generated very large (as always) to persist control-state (e.g. checkbox, radiobutton, etc.)

I haven't set any limit on Virtual Memory.why the cache is getting cleared even when the Private memory used is below the allocated memory?

Web Forms :: Dynamically Changing Size Of Content Placeholder Based On Browser Size?

Oct 14, 2010

I know the content palcehlder does not have a size ,I have a masterpage and content page, the master page has a table with a header, content area, and footer, header and footer are fixed size, content area is 100%. As the user sizes the browser the content area grows and shrinks and the footer stays at the
bottom of the browser window - perfect!

Problem: The contentpalceholder does not grow to fill the available content area. Now, the contentplaceholder gets its size from its contents, which in this case is a div holding a silverlight object.I was thinking I could hook the master or child page's re-size event and somehow pass that info onto the SL object, but as it turns out (and I'm surprised I never knew this) there is no aps.net page re-size event! (really?, wow.)

So is there a way to get a SL object hosted on a master page to size itself based on the size of the browser window?Or more generally, a way to size the contents (like a div or panel) of a contentplaceholder based on the browser? on a standard aspx page (not a master page) I CAN get the SL object to size itself based on the broswer, the problem seems to come from the fact that I'm hosting the SL object in a content placeholder.

I guess I could 'unroll' the master page into several standalone pages and have it work, but the menu is on the master page and I'm used to using them, plus it's already done...<sigh>

AJAX :: The Controls Inside TabContainer Size, Font Size And Location Changing After Page Refresh?

Dec 19, 2010

I am using TabContainer with some controls on each tab (asp: labels, text boxes). When redirecting to the page that contains the TabContainer, the tabs and their content loads as expected, but when there is a postback, and the page refreshes, the TabContainer UI changes - the font size of the labels gets bigger, the text boxes become bigger and their location changes a bit (not aligned as before), and the tab header is partially hidden. I am using IE7.

I dont know if this is relevant but in some of the text boxes i use edit mask extender as well for date. Also, I have used a table inside the TabContainer for layouting the controls.

Security :: Caps Lock Is Off When Enter User Name It Prints In Capital Letters But Size Is Small size?

Oct 20, 2010

In login.aspx I have used login control to enter user name and password, the problem is: even my caps lock is off when I enter user name it prints in capital letters but size is small size (when I copy and paste in note pad or msword it paste in small letters not in capital letters), when I turn on my caps lock on and type - it prints in bigger size as if I am typing in capital letters.

ex: 1. temp is my user name if my caps lock is off it shows like this TEMP (but size in smaller than 2nd one)

2. if my caps lock is on is shows like this as if I am typing capital letters TEMP

what do you think the problem is how can I fix it

Web Forms :: Caching When Cached Size Exceed Memory Size?

Nov 29, 2010

As I know, by default Cache is stored in the memory and to the disk at the same time DiskCacheable=true).When the cached response is removed from the output cache due to memory pressure, it still remains on disk allowing a much larger set of pages to be cached. In addition, disk cached pages survive application restarts. And this is already in ASP.NET 2.0.I dont't know in which order the caches are removed from the memory and readen from disk instead? I would like to achive, that caches with the minimal trafic, or the longest last used, would be removed first from the memory. Is there some settings to do that, or even by default works that way?

The Problem:What I want is that the size of the page that is displayed remains constant for a user and must be equal to the size of their browser's available display area and the content being visible by scrolling the div.Sort of like the header and footer remain at the same position and the content inside it is scrollable.

VS 2010 - Increase Max Buffer Size And Max Received Message Size

Jul 19, 2011

according to the developer of the web service I am calling.He said "bump up the default values for the following":

maxBufferSize="4096000"
maxReceivedMessageSize="4096000"

Where can I put these to bump them up? I've tried googling these settings, and I get sections of web.config that I don't have. I don't have a WCF client, either. Does this make sense to do from my web service, developed in VS 2010?

I'd like to just call his service without changing anything, get the error, and then go from there. I'm even getting that far because I got some other exception saying server was unable to process request, but it had nothing to do with exceeding a buffer size.
