Library Namespace Becomes Unknown After Manual Update
Aug 19, 2010
I recently faced an issue with a third-party DLL we use in one of our ASP.NET websites.
When I need to update it, I download a newer version from vendor's website and just replace the binary in the "bin" folder in the website folder. Immediately Visual Studio loses this library's namespace (says the method is not accessible due to protection level). And recently we started getting random "Unable to compile" exceptions from the site, we connect it with the library.
But if I delete the old library from the solution explorer, and then Add Reference to the newer version, everything works perfectly.
Is it a bug of Visual Studio, the library we use or our site? Has anyone ever faced same issue and knows how to fix it?
We use VS 2010, .NET 4.0 on Win7 Pro x64, TFS'10. The project is a VB.NET website (not web application).

Suddenly all update panels in my website became unknown elements. They work fine when I run site.
But:
no intellisense in update panel (no properties appear, no tags, like "triggers")
no ID property when I drag updatepanel from toolbox
VS says that I check if webconfig contains reference to System.Web.Extensions
But I have this reference already.

I use vs2008 and my MVC 1.0 and 2.0 Projects were working perfectly but all of a sudden i have an error on trying to compile all of them;
The error is of the form;
Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Controllers' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 3 The type or namespace name 'Models' does not exist in the namespace 'XXX' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
Error 4 The type or namespace name 'AccountController' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 5 The type or namespace name 'IFormsAuthenticationService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Error 6 The type or namespace name 'IMembershipService' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
These errors seem to come from the HomeControllerTest and the AccountControllerTest.
note that i recently installed Azure Tools using the Web Installer..Dunno if that could be the cause or problem.

I was earlier having a problem with referencing a 3rd Party Dll (Here) but have overcome this problem and am now having a problem referencing my own classes!
Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation
Error:Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
The line that the Error points to this line in the class:
source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData newdata =
new source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData();
This line of code points to a class in the same folder as the calling code class.

I am looking at the twitter api page http://apiwiki.twitter.com/ and I noticed that they have already built libraries that are wrappers against the twitter api. So I am thinking this is the best way to go but I am unsure which C# library I should use.
What I am trying to do is make some simple service or cmd line application that will help me automate retweeting.
So I am looking for a library that will allow me to get posts from other twitter accounts and then retweet them from another account.
I am not sure if the library can do this or not. Otherwise I was thinking of getting the RSS feed from the twiter account I want to get the twitters from parse out the new ones and use a library to retweet them on my own account.
I have not used twitter much so I am hopping someone can shed some light on this.

I am getting this compilation error"
All my pages are receiving this error - website is down; here's the code:
[Code]....
Except my web config file shows linq is accounted for? [Code]....
I would note that I updated to VWD Express 2010 then had to revert back to 3.5 because my host at Arvixe had not updated my server yet. He then said he updated it and I reverted up to 4.0 again. It turned out he hadn't and I tried to revert back...and then this showed up and numerous other errors.

I have done research on how to manually create sorting in a grid-view and none of it is thorough enough for me to follow. I need more of a step by step solution, like what event should my sorting code go in, how would i enable the headers to allow sorting. normally, i just have .net do this but for some reason this time it doesn't allow it, maybe because i am not using a datasource.
that's my code that creates a datable and then binds to the gridview.
Function toptable()
Dim reader As SqlDataReader
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@yeartoget", DropDownList1.SelectedValue)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@mode", RadioButtonList1.SelectedValue)
<FooterTemplate>
<%#Getmovesales1().ToString("P1")%>.......

Here's an interesting problem. I have an ETL script written in c# that I have been running manually on a somewhat regular basis. It is used to update my web app's database.
I want to automate the ETL process AND create an interface for the web app admins to manually start the ETL process.
I could have sql server kick off the ETL process on a schedule and implement a button or something on a web page that will do the same thing, but I don't want to put my code in 2 different places because I don't want to update it in 2 places when it changes. But I don't know how to make my web app tell SQL server to manually start a scheduled process. Can this be done? OR
I could somehow implement the scheduling in the web app itself, but by now most people are familiar with the problems that are faced when trying that (app may not be running at certain times, must wait on request to start a process (without some trickery)). Also, since the ETL process takes a while, I don't want to make some poor end user wait on a response, so it would definitely have to use a new thread.

I have a FormView that I user for updating a record. There is a link button that when fires should perforom the updating via BLL and DAL. I am not using built-in ODS and I will not condsider using it. I have all my grids and formviews populated manuualy by calling methods that fetch the data from the database. For instance my details view is populated like this:
protected void DlMembers_ItemCommand(object source, DataListCommandEventArgs e)
{
if (e.CommandName.ToString() == "Select")
{
DlMembers.Visible = false;
lblError.Text = string.Empty;
lblError.Visible = false;
fvMemberDetail.Visible = true;
fvMemberDetail.ChangeMode(FormViewMode.Edit);
MemberBLL getMemberInfo = new MemberBLL();
int Ident = Convert.ToInt32(e.CommandArgument.ToString());
fvMemberDetail.DataSource = getMemberInfo.GetMemberByIdent(Ident);
fvMemberDetail.DataBind();
}
if (e.CommandName.ToString() == "DeleteSelected")
{
DlMembers.Visible = true;
lblError.Text = string.Empty;
lblError.Visible = false;
fvMemberDetail.Visible = false;
fvMemberDetail.ChangeMode(FormViewMode.ReadOnly);
}
What I want to do if to capature my linkbutton on click event and do this (except that the runtime never reaches this method):
protected void MemberInfoUpdating(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
TextBox id = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtIdent");
if (id.Text != string.Empty || id.Text != "")
{
TextBox txtFN = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtFN");
TextBox txtLN = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtLN");
DropDownList ddlAddress = (DropDownList)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("ddlAddress");
TextBox txtEmail = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtEmail");
TextBox txtHPhone = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtHPhone");
TextBox txtWPhone = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtWPhone");
TextBox txtMPhone = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtMPhone");
DropDownList ddlPos = (DropDownList)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("ddlPos");
DropDownList ddlIsAdmin = (DropDownList)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("ddlIsAdmin");
bool blIsAdmin = false;
if (ddlIsAdmin.SelectedValue == "True") blIsAdmin = true;
TextBox txtComments = (TextBox)fvMemberDetail.FindControl("txtComments");
MemberBLL updateMemberInfo = new MemberBLL();
bool UpdateOK = updateMemberInfo.UpdateMemberByIdent(
txtFN.Text,
txtLN.Text,
ddlAddress.SelectedValue,
txtEmail.Text,
txtHPhone.Text,
txtWPhone.Text,
txtMPhone.Text,
blIsAdmin,
txtComments.Text,
Convert.ToInt32(ddlPos.SelectedValue),
Convert.ToInt32(id.Text));
}
else
{
//Display error - no user id cannot update record
}
}
The linkbutton looks like this:
<asp:LinkButton ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" CausesValidation="True"
OnClick="MemberInfoUpdating" Text="Update" />

Is there any compromise in using bound controls vs manually coding ado.net connections in asp.net 3.5 ?
In what situation would you use bound controls (do connections using wizards) and in what situation would you manually code your database strings?
